Man…we should have made that happen. $7 mil for that guy? Coulda, shoulda IMO. I like LVE but Wagner is waaaay better and more durable. Oh well….
Exactly.............inexcusable to not sign Bobby for $7 mill.

Got to think he gave Seattle a "hometown discount".

But if Bobby would have taken $7 or $8 mill from Dallas and the team said "no thanks, we good"..........then that is an EPIC FAIL

Seriously we couldn't land wagner?
No. No teams had the inside track that Seattle had and he may have been asking other teams for more money or more years or both.

He went home. He still has a house there and his family/kids have lived in that community for years.

1000% wouldve done this than bring back VanderEsch
The fact that it was for only $7m indicates he wanted to go to Seattle.
Hmmm. Is he on the decline? Why only a 1 year deal? Why only $7M? Did the Cowboys get involved at all? Did they make an official offer? Did Wagner ever consider coming to Dallas?

Until we get some answers, we'll never know why this seems kind of wonky.
Only $7m because that's where he wanted to play, he held out for them to offer more money ....this is nothing to do with us, our name was used to up the price.

There's guys still around for depth and the draft has a very good pool that could be available in rounds 2-3 considering all the Edge/LB's in this draft will probably push a lot of the MLB's down.

DT is another pretty good position this year also.

No way. Bobby Wagner was looking for who would pay him the most $.

Cowboys resigned LVE for 2 years for a total of $8 million.

Bobby Wagner will be turning 33 in June.

LVE barely turned 27 in February. Plus, LVE had his best productive season (2022: 90 combined tackles and 1 sack) since his rookie season (2018: 140 combined tackles and 2 INTs). He has been gradually improving the past 3 seasons since his neck injury/surgery, so signs show he's likely to keep improving. For the price, Cowboys made the right choice.
Lve had his most productive season. And still wasn’t close to Wagner and how he performed last year as the top rated Lb in football. Keep telling yourself LvE is better.

Where did I ever say LVE is better? Show everyone where I ever said LVE is a better LB than Bobby Wagner. Don't be making up false accusations.

By propping up LvE the way you just did. You are insinuating that losing out on Wagner is fine because we have LvE lol. It’s a joke. They aren’t even in the same stratosphere

The Cowboys are running a business under a salary cap, first and foremost. They made the wiser choice. They already have made some very big pickups in free agency to help the team win right now, but they also have to wheel-n-deal under a limited amount of money left in the bank. LVE played well enough to be brought back. I bet Wagner asked for much more than $7 mil/season to come to Dallas. Jerry made the hard but correct decision.

So you think the 2 million saved LVE vs Wagner is going to make or break the salary cap?

Gotcha.

If, you actually watched Wagner play last year, his stats were much better than his play suggests. He can't run anymore and his game is totally dependent on his great instincts and experience. He had 140 tackles but most were 5-7 yards to field. He had 140 tackles but, partially because he could not get to place in time to keep the runner from converting 1st downs. That gave him more opportunities to be in on tackles.

At this point, I would take Leighton over Wagner all day long.

Leighton can cover more ground and will be in his 3rd year with Dan Quinn. My only concern is Leighton's ability to stay healthy.

If, you think I'm full of B.S., he was a free agent and any team could have signed him and a 1 year $7 Million contract was the best he could get.

$2 million saved? Try much more.

Wagner gave his old team a home discount by accepting to play for $7 mil. Pretty sure he was asking for around $10 mil/year from the Cowboys. Instead, the Cowboys resigned LVE for 2 years for a total of $8 mil which comes out to $4 mil/year.

$4 mil/year -vs- $10 mil/year on a 2 year deal?

That comes out to a savings of $6 mil/year and a total of $12 mil for 2 years to keep LVE over Bobby Wagner. That's a huge cap space difference in savings.
