Seems to actually work fine.

Steele might be ready for the start of the season but more likely he may need an extra few weeks like Gallup. So by the time Steele is ready, Tyron will be about ready to go down with an injury.

So this seems like a smart plan.

How many times have we complained about Jerry/the coaches keeping somebody past his prime, and not planning for his replacement?

Tyron can NOT be the starter; he hasn't played a full season for SEVEN years. Continuity on the o-line is a big part of its effectiveness, pick a lineup that you think can stick together for an entire season, and more, don't fill it with guys who you know will miss games....
He is Sean Lee, still good when he plays, but struggles to stay healthy. They decided to bring him back and could make up to 17 million, they are going to play him. Yes, like Lee need a real contingent plan when he misses time. It’s not conventional, but they wouldn’t bring him back if he wasn’t still playing on a high level.

Just listening to the new love at the star podcast, they said no inside knowledge, but feel Tyron Smith is the team's new swing tackle. I don't see it that way, nor have read/heard anything suggesting he is now a backup, but that would create a huge starting need at Left Guard. My opinion, is players don't take pay cuts to sit on the bench, Tyron wouldn't off accepted the deal if he was going to become a backup when he could start elsewhere.

I don't see it either. Still so good when healthy.

I suppose its a very good problem to have: 3 premium OT.

Jerry ain't gonna let a potential $17 million sit on the bench

Local guys have said for a few years now that Tyron would retire before playing for another team. So that isn’t and wasn’t an option.

You know I have already commented on this previously and I appreciate your agnostic view. Tyrone has shown last year the willingness to change for the betterment of the team. I don’t know

I feel this team would be well advised to draft a talented LT from the upcoming draft to play if Tyron requires a replacement, due to injury. Tyron's history seemingly begs for such a move to be taken. If this staff ignores that need, the consequences might well prove far too damaging. Lacking depth at such a vital position might prove a serious mistake, imho. I think Tyson Smith might do well to serve the OL at LG, rather than LT.

They already have their two tackles for the future. Think everyone is blowing this way out of proportion of what Jerry said, he doesn’t even run the he day to day anymore. All three are going to start

He wants to get paid too, his incentives are based on his starts.

There's no football in March. We should all just assume Steele will be 97-100% by game 1.
The Cowboys might be trying to be smart. Let’s get Steele 100% and hold him out until October. That would give him 11 months since the injury.

I've had four ACL surgeries. Yes four. And one brought on a blood clot that kept me in the hospital for quite awhile. So I know how much a devastating injury that was years ago. My surgeries were in a time that would have left Dr. McCoy from Star Trek muttering to himself about barbarism. We live in a different era relative to that injury now.

There is this weird paranoia here about Steele's knee. Don't get it.

That could be a possibility, but he is going to start at some point.
No doubt but the Cowboys don’t have to announce their starting lineup in March. Plus this might be a tactic for Steele because he is still unsigned. A message to his agent.

The way Gallup played last season turned everyone off. The fact that OBJ was still limping around in December. It’s great that Steele is working out but I want him at 100%. I don’t see why holding him out until October would not hurt.

Tyron Smith as a swing would be an excellent move. Maybe we will finally get 17 games from him. In other words, what would you rather have.......part-time HOFer for an entire year OR a full-time HOFer 8-10 games.
