Hey he might be amazing who knows but guys like him are in just about every draft.

There is no way to tell Michael Mayer from a Cole Kmet.

Mayer could be the next Witten but good luck with that.

I think the Packers go Kincade to help Love. Good for Kincaid to make 8t back healthy. I'm content he won't be in Dallas.

15 is a bit rich for Kincaid or any tight end not named Pitts, IMO. I believe they to WR over TE

I think athletically you're right but really don't think people grasp how ridiculously productive Mayer was in college. Saw this stat on Twitter the other day:

Among drafted TEs since 2005, Michael Mayer:

99th percentile age/team adj. production
97th percentile team share of yards
97th percentile career yards per game
91st percentile TDs

Yes Notre Dame uses TEs a lot but that's absurd for a tight end on a P5 (Independent whatever but play a P5 schedule) team. And I am a ND fan so I'll admit I'm a bit biased towards Mayer since I watched every one of his games, but I also watched every one of Kmet's games and Mayer is just simply the far superior player at this stage of his development. Kmet goung 1st round kinda surprised me at the time honestly.

Last year ND had a guy who was considered the consensus top prospect at his position all year (Kyle Hamilton), then he underwhelmed at the combine and his stock took a major hit, then low and behold he had the best PFF grade of any safety, rookie or otherwise, in the NFL last year. Obviously he likely wasn't actually the best safety, just more an obvious case of people overthinking the guy we all knew would be a really damn good NFL player because of testing. Mayer's situation really reminds me a lot of Hamilton's this year.

Hamilton was basically a slot corner. He was hyped up as a derwin James safety. Derwin isn't a slot corner. If they hyped up Hamilton as a slot fine but he really didn't do anything at the position of safety. If you look to start the year when Miami was toasting the Ravens you saw Hamilton on the receiving end. Towards the end of the year he was closer to the LOS. that's not a supposed top 5 talent if you have to hide him from the deep portion of the field

Hey he may be awesome he just athletically looks like a TE we see in every draft.

Struggling in coverage in the first games of your NFL career is pretty typical for any top DB. My point was not that Hamilton thrived at FS like he played in college, but rather that he thrived as a rookie because we had 3 years of tape of him being one of the best football players in college. Good football players are good football players. Likewise, I'm not suggesting Mayer would thrive as a vertical threat in the NFL, but will still make an immediate impact at the NFL level for the same reason. I think with traditionally lower valued positions like TE and Safety (among others) sometimes fans/teams during draft season get caught up in picturing the perfect prospect for those types of positions—and then talk themselves into swinging for the upside pick that fits that belief rather than taking the guy everyone already knows is very good and it burns them.

He had a really average at best QB the last season; and a just a bit better than average QB the season before.
And he still put up great stats.
Basically you just do not like him and no FACTS will change your mind, so just admit it.

I gotcha. I just never understood the top 3 prospect hype about him and I knew what I was looking at......but I gotcha. He is a good player and Mayer prob will be too
