Depends on who is on the board. I think it's perfectly excusable to pass on a TB in the first. Again, the league continues to prove over and over you don't have to throw top assets at a TB to build a quality running game. You know what's more important for an offense's success and a running game? The OL. That's more important than the TB. We have a gaping hole at LG if they plan on making Tyler Smith the LT. The center is not any great shakes himself.

If there is a legit OG at 26, yeah, I'd pass on Gibbs, for example, for that guy.
No, we don't have any gaping hole at LG. That's a bunch of bull. Tyler Smith will be starting at Left Guard as Tyron Smith starts at his old position of Left Tackle. If Tyron gets injured, Tyler will slide over to LT as Matt Farniok fills in at LG. There is absolutely no gaping hole or dire need at Oline right now. The gaping hole is at RB.

Go back and look at his yearly games and stats his first 4 years. Zeke was an absolute stud and game changer. His Rookie year in 2016, there is no way the team ends up with a 13-3 record and a bye in the playoffs without Zeke. Anyone who says otherwise is flat out lying to themselves.
Again, did the trajectory of the franchise change? In other words, did we go from bottom feeders to elite due the acquisition of Elliott?

No, we did not. That doesn't mean Elliott wasn't a great player for a time. But the reality is that TB is one of the least important positions when talking about building a SB contender in a cap age. This keeps getting proven over and over and yet people just want to ignore than and clamor for spending a ton of assets on a TB.

The Cowboys don't win without great RBs . That's the lesson.
LOL at comparing today's NFL to the early 90s, when the league was more run driven. The game has changed. The rules have changed to enhance the passing game. The evidence continues to mount that teams can make SB runs without having to pour top assets into a top TB.

We had a great RB in Elliott for awhile. The team did no better in his tenure than the 2014 team that had a 3rd round pick as the lead TB. It's not about who is the TB anymore in this league. It's about your OL and your QB.

Farniok.

LOL.

Oh and let's recall that Steele is coming off knee surgery so who knows how he might be post surgery. The OL is in more flux than you want to admit.

I'm not for trading up for a RB. If 1 of the Top 2 fell to the Cowboys, it would be inexcusable to pass him up just to satisfy some fans about not wanting to use a late 1st round pick on a game changing RB.
I wouldn’t hate it if they drafted Robinson if he was still there at 26.

What I would hate is if the Cowboys gave up valuable draft capital to trade up for him - or any running back.

Ooh, I disagree on that.

That’s either something McShay dreamed up or propaganda leaked by the team. Maybe they will take him at 26, but I doubt they deal UP for him. The kid will talk Jerry out of that anyway….and I truly hope he is done obsessing over triplets. That was thirty years ago sir.

Reminds me of the year we had two firsts and Jerry was supposedly infatuated with Razorback RB Darren McFadden.

That was the one time I openly cheered when a player went elsewhere. Not that I think that little of Robinson, but these RBs are not as much of sure things as some want to believe. Need a committee, not one top guy where everything goes to hell when that guy is unavailable or underperforming.

Taking Robinson at 26 wouldn’t be my ideal scenario, but I wouldn’t call it a mistake. Giving up the opportunity to fill out the roster in mid rounds to get him….that’s a huge mistake.

Oh and be ready to pay him after year three with four more guaranteed years…which is what they just suffered through. Right back into the fire Jerry eh?

They are the most valued franchise in this country, don't think selling a few more jerseys will have any impact.
One would hope

But when you get to be the most valuable franchise in sports without accomplishing anything in 30 years, it's easy to wonder where the priorities are

Heard that in 2017. That was a deep class too and we needed one then more than now. Ended up with none
Are you referring to 2015? Should we have traded up for Gurley? same kind of deal honestly. Except the guys look a bit better than the melvin gordon, tj yeldon and ameer abdullahs of thew orld.

I'll go as far as saying there isn't a single guy in this class I'd consider trading up for. We're too far back in the 1st and don't see anyone being a meaningful enough add to sacrifice a bunch of future assets to go get

No. This isn't a passing league. It's a running and passing league. Look at the run to pass ratios. The Cowboys are an exception to the rule anyway. The fundamentals of the game are still the same. When you say that great RBs aren't still a factor you don't look at the results. You are parroting what you heard others say.
