Are they Geniuses or did Matt Millan come back...

They're taking players well ahead of the general media/fan expectations.

Gibbs is a terrific player and I thought he would end up in the late 1st.
- However, top 12 seems a bit insane for the 2nd RB in the draft.

I wasn't convinced that Jack Campbell would be BPA at pick #58 but they took him at #18.

Now Sam LaPorta at #34 and the 2nd TE to be drafted.

By all accounts we’ve heard Dallas liked Laporta more than Mayer too.

If anything the Raiders reached. Musgrave should’ve gone before Mayer too.

I think they had a feeling Gibbs would go soon after. IMO, there is a reason why they drafted him at #12 when they also had picks 18 and 32.

It may work out…but if I were a Lions fan I’d be a little afraid that Campbell is trying to take the team back into the 90’s. At least that’s what these picks scream to me

You could be right but I think he is weaving magic with that team right now. They are going to be really good this year IMO.

Drafting 4-of-4 low value positions in the top 50 is definitely an interesting move.

That being said, the only pick I actually hate is Gibbs. Campbell was a top 20 talent in my book. LaPorta was on that 1st-2nd borderline. Ditto with Branch.

All 4 dudes are certified ballers with great tape, and all but Branch are extremely talented athletes. So I think the risk of any of these guys failing is actually pretty low.

Drafting Gibbs over dudes like Nolan Smith and Gonzalez is insane in my book... totally indefensible. I like everything they've done after that. Low value positions or not, they can easily justify picking those other guys.

Hell, even Hooker was worth a dart throw where they chose him.

Not a fan of their draft given the enormous draft capital they had.
but guess we’ll see.

Think I’m aligned more with this reaction. It’s not that the players were not good players because they were. Just seems somewhat situational lacking in thought.

They were early on some picks. But Branch pick was opportunistic with faller.

They just had a nice draft, IMO. Some of their first picks were great.

I think that was like my mock.. I had Gibbs in the first, Campbell in 2nd, and LaPorta in the 3rd. But that was the simulator. I think all those players have talent.

Second best running back, best middle linebacker, third best tight end (in a good class), best safety, top 5 quarterback (who might have been higher if he weren't injured) and a poor man's Mazi Smith.

You may not like the order in which they were taken, but that looks like a pretty good haul for them.

Lions always seem to dance to a different tune than everybody else during the draft, reactions be damned. Can't argue with the end result of the first two days of this draft though.

The Lions know who they want and aren't afraid to get them.

If it means getting them early, they accept it.
And I like each of these players too.

Campbell is getting guys that fit his philosophy, and doesn't give a crap about what ppl think. Good for him.

It may not work out, value wise, but it's not like he's drafting bums here. These are all really good players

There’s a reason they’ve never been to a Super Bowl
If you're inferring they don't know how to draft, look at their last couple of drafts and tell me how their current organization under Holmes resembles their prior staffs in any way. I'd like to hear that. Please make the case.

Here's some insight on how other teams valued Gibbs and Campbell: https://BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1/nflhotpress/article/2023-NFL-Draft-Week-Rumors-Friday
