Bills GM Admits 1st-Round Trade Was Direct Move To Block Cowboys From Getting TE

We lost Dallas Goedart the exact same way. Eagles jumped in front of our stationary , lazy FO who treats the drafts like a family reunion
I remember that well. There were potentially other picks in the 2nd in other drafts as well that I have noticed. I'm just worried it's going to hit us hard in the first one of these years.

I’m arguing against misinformation. They did not have Kinkaid rated as a first rounder. They had Laporta as their number one tight end. I know it’s cool to crap on Jerry but I think Mazi was legit the pick they wanted.
I agree Mazi was a much needed upgrade on the DL. But the team was obviously looking at TE's and we have no idea how they ranked them or if any of them had first round grades.

This is why it’s important to not assume and read misinformation. Dallas Goedert was not going to be their pick lol.

My issue is that we don't seem to target or covet anyone b/c we don't have a "type of player" or an identity. It's just whoever falls to us was "the guy we were targeting" BS every year.

It’s literally been reported by Dallas media people. The Cowboys had Laporta as their number one tight end. David Moore has said it…Todd Archer. They were not as high on these tight ends as others was….Bills jumped in front of Dallas because they thought that’s who we wanted.

What’s likely..

Bills jumped us for Kincaid thinking we wanted a TE.

What really happened..

Dallas was debating Laporta (their #1 TE in the draft) vs Mazi vs trading down.
Do you have a source or is this just more conjecture?

they were already on the phone telling conor williams they were drafting him when the eagles picking goedert was announced in the background

and what kinda weird semantics do you have to be stuck on to think “move to block dallas” “and move to get the guy we wanted” don’t mean the same thing?

I'm skeptical of all these post draft explanations. Until I see a leaked draft board, I'll take whatever the cowboy mouth pieces say with a grain of salt.

What the Cowboys do is they have a board. I don’t know how their board matches against other teams but I’ve noticed that in comparison to these guys like Brugler, Mcshay, Kiper, etc is never lines up with what they think.

It’s pure misinformation…the Cowboys know their guy will be there that’s why they aren’t trading up.

Total speculation but if Laporta was our TE one like people in this thread are saying they’ve heard and what I speculated was the case anyways then how could I be wrong?
If that was the case, why the heck not use a 4th and trade up in round 2? It's their passive approach to the draft as much as anything that I dislike.

I think them meeting these players is what causes them to have some graded higher than others.

I don’t think a guy like Brugler ever met with Kincaid and Laporta.

Misleading title, the Bills thought Dallas might take a TE and they wanted to ensure they got the guy they wanted.

Happens 10 times in every draft, who knows if Dallas wanted him or not but the Bills didn't want to risk it.

That's exactly what they do. In another post I wrote almost exactly what you said. The problem is, when you do that every team in the league knows it.

Exactly. I think so too. That’s how they ended up with a guy like Wright.
