Agree, but the alternative view is that he was exactly the type of player we needed and so to ensure we signed him we had to go early.
Last year we were 'left with Ferguson' as we missed the run on TE's, I suppose the FO saw the blocking/catching TE was essential to help facilitate (word of the day) of how we want to play.
Yea, just a really really poor way to draft IMO but you’re probably right.

I agree…and that’s just not a good strategy going into the draft imo. But that’s what happens when you have a front office that refuses to use free agency to fill holes and you’re forced to use the draft for need.
@cnuball21 Certainly can't use that philosophy every year, but we are close (and for us it's close to All-In).
Free agency may be the reason we didn't take Torrence, we may be in on Risner, but didn't yet sign until we saw how the draft fell.

I get it…but we’re talking about a run blocking TE with a premium pick.

Maybe they feel good about Chuma or Tyler inside.

They could of drafted Mayer at 26 with better blocking and actually is a high end receiver for the position.
Not and get Mazi a run stuffer that we needed. They locked in to the best run stuffing NT in the draft

IMO there were 6 players that I thought could be game changers for this team offensively. Robinson, JSN, Kincaid, Gibbs, Flowers and Addison. All gone by the time we picked. Lots of solid guys that we could have taken in round 2 but no one to move the needle. I would have taken either O’Cyrus or Drew Sanders. My real only beef with the draft class.

Man I'd disagree..even if you miss out on the top WRs in rounds 1/2 so many studs still available in rounds 3+ that I think could've brought heavy competition to Tolbert.

Ever since Larry Lacewell was finally kicked to the curb, the Cowboys have been much better in the draft.

A poor WR class and I don’t see any studs or guys that were going to change the dynamics of this team. Let‘s look back next year and see these round 3 and 4 guys that were going to be impact players for this team.

Then... let someone else pick him? Instead of taking him 2 to 3 rounds early?
Based on what the Cowboys usually do in the 2nd we should be happy. This is a solid pick and he fills a good role. He will play right away. Usually our 2n rounders rarely even play.

There was absolutely no excuse to not take Torrence .Especially when you face that Eagles defensive line twice a year.
Why dont any of these media types ask Jones straight up why he passed on Torrence?

I have my doubts on multiple fronts, but relative to this comment I question whether he will play right away over 2nd year players Ferguson & Hendershot.

There was a better than good chance Schoon wasn't going to be available in the 3rd round when we picked.

If you want the guy bad enough, you take him when you can, yes we took him a little early but this is MM's guy for his offense. Everyone including McClay and Jones know there were higher ranked players
for OTHER positions, they said it at the PC.

They wanted a dual threat TE who can play right away and got him
Strange went off the board 3 picks later and Kraft was gone at 78 way before pick 90. So I would say there was no chance he would make it to 90.

His drafting in round 2 is indicative of what they think about those 2 dudes. He’s a better blocker and more athletic. You can hate the pick. But I guarantee you he is starting.

There is a reason why this franchise has NOT been to a NRC Finals in 30 years. Dallas has a massive hole @ LG and they draft another TE in the 2nd rd. Eagles' Jalen Carter is loving the hole at LG in Dallas. Maybe Dallas will pick up a LG after the draft. ( LoL ) Note: The Cowboys struggle to develop OL guys in late rds

Figures. A team that hasn't won a championship since the 90s drafting players from a team that hasn't won a championship since the 90s.
Lmao so pretty much Smith and Smith aren't gonna start at LG and LT over whoever we draft this year? :muttley:
