Spags' notes from the draft. Good right up on how the Deuce Vaughn pick went down in the war room.
They huddled and decided to go with Vaughn, as he was the top of the board of the last players left. While his dad was out of the room.
Then told him when he came back in. He did not advocate to draft his son. Just let it play out.

This is what McClay said about drafts. As to picking later in the draft.

"It's the penalty of being good," said Will McClay, the Cowboys vice president of player personnel. "You set your board, and everybody has guys they like and think they can add value to (the team). But we don't control that. We control our board and what we think about the next guy that's up there.
"It is what it is. There is nothing you can do about it."

More fans need to understand this better IMO.
So he's saying they reached because of the coaches. Exactly what I and anyone with a brain already knew.

So the malcontents have set the standard of you need trade for extra firsts or you suck. It is interesting how our rivals always seem to be the ideal for these malcontents.

Oh, they so well enough to see a glimpse of an NFC championship game in the distance but as far as actually reaching it…..not so much

if one is happy with just above average they will love Jerry’s stand pat , no risks methods
And boy there are a bunch here who love the stand pat, no risk methods lemme tell ya. While masquerading in only their mind that they're the real fans.

It's upside down in here almost, lol

I need someone to explain to me how its "miserable" to not expect success from this team?

I feel like the real misery would be expecting something every single year only to get let down every single year.

There's no honor in being a homer just for the sake of being a homer.
Actually, there kind of is.

If you want to be an armchair GM and fan of football, where the Cowboys are just another team you evaluate, then so be it. What is crazy though are the “fans” who actively crap on the team every single opportunity they get.

No moves are ever good moves. No win is satisfying. All losses are predicted and expected. Every mistake is catatrophized.

I’d rather be a homer than a jaded cynic who gains perverse pleasure out of “being right” and part of the pack of misery.

He didn’t say that. So I guess all those really are brainless then. :lmao:

The draft didn’t fall the way they hoped it would imo. I think they wanted Kincaid in round 1 and probably would have gone OL in round 2 in that instance. Buffalo trading up forced us to focus on the trenches in round 1 which may work out for us.
Except everyone in the dallas media has been told that LaPorta was their top TE.

Ok, then explain Philly. They got rid of Carson Wentz, and it's been tons of high draft picks and Super Bowls since.

Damn! We need to get together for a few drinks some day. We'd either hug it out ot beat the crap out of each other. Salud! Always love the banter....nothing personal. I hope you know that.
I don't know if I'd want to hang out with a guy who wants to do nothing, but piss everyone off and be confrontational at every turn.
But whatevs.
We're all different.

The last time the Cowboys made a trade for a high pick was the year that they traded their 1st round pick because the Browns offered their 2nd round pick along with the next year's #1 pick because they wanted to move up to get Brady Quinn.

The Patriots built their team that way. Belicek liked to trade down and pick up multiple 2nd and 3rd picks. He figured you could still get a group of good players without the future hassle of unreasonable contract negotiations. He would constantly end up with another team's future 1st round pick

Another way to pick up extra premium picks is to be the type of team that cultivates quarterbacks and then trade the one you don't want to keep. Belicek did that too as well as many other teams with multiple talented QB's. It's how the Cowboys ended up with Randy White.

it was Mazi or Avila at 26. They wanted a TE but at a later rd.
The debate was Mazi and Syracuse OL Matthew Bergeron, Will argued for Mazi.

Yes, beat writers said Kincaid was never at play, Bills panicked knowing we needed a TE but Kincaid was not our guy.

They knew there was TE depth and could get one later and yes, wanted a TE that can block.
