Latest NFL power ranking has Cowboys just barely in the Top 10

The 92 team was not respected until we beat Buffalo in the Super Bowl. The East coast media was all over the Eagles after they got Herschel Walker. The Skins and Giants were coming off Super Bowl runs so the Cowboys were actually picked to be last. We trounced the East and then San Francisco and the media still didn’t give us our props.
That’s because their worst nightmare came true. Not only did they win the SB, but they were a dynasty and everyone knew it. They knew they would have to deal with the Cowboys being on top, for an extended period of time. Until Jerry ruined it

Yet another power ranking to drive some fans nuts. Not sure I can think of anything football related I care less about than power rankings. As worthless as they are they’re even more worthless this time of year.
The only “ranking“ that matters is playoff seeding and playoff results. Pre-season and even in-season rankings in the NFL are nothing more than click bait for fans. Results are ultimately what ranks teams.
You are much too kind. I rank power ratings as just slightly worse then draft mocks.
Rankings dont mean much.
Power rankings are done for many leagues across a number of sports. They're just exercises in expressing opnions -just like player ratings (NFL.com Top 100 and Madden Ratings on deck.)
Stir up discussion and debate for those who are interested.
Stay tuned for - or INGORE - the many ones that will be churned now until the regular season starts.

Exactly. So we’re gonna worry about a Power Ranking in May? The only ranking that’s important is the one immediately following the Super Bowl
The only ranking I care about is where we rank in our division during the season. There’s no one’s opinion involved in that one. That’s the ranking that determines your fate.

So, Peter King has an opinion. So do all of us.

And not one opinion will change what is actually going to happen this season.
I’d like to think some opinions can be swayed or influenced . Much like with elections we have about 40-45 % on either side regardless the candidate and about 10% in the middle which can go either way.

"I see them beating Dallas in one of the Greatest NFC title games of all time."

Dallas then destroys SF 38-21 in a one-sided beat down.

That was my earliest memory of 49ers fan Peter King underrating the Cowboys as he would continue to do till today.

We are built to have fun and dominate the regular season. Expecting anything more than that is pretty silly.

My top 10 heading into the season
Chiefs
Bills
Bengals
Egirls
Chargers
49ers
Cowboys
Vikings
Dolphins
Jaguars
Honorable mentions : Ravens and Titans

Note: after top 4 it could go several different ways . And teams I’d be on the lookout to improve are Lions , NY, Seahawks, Patriots and Jets

The NFC after Egirls is totally wide open . Look for there to be some surprising surges from potential teams like Detroit , NY or Seattle making a move. Maybe LA.

Cowboys are top 4 in NFC . Thank goodness we aren’t in AFC.

Yep

Good off season topic

exactly. Even til the SB, we weren't taken as legit as the Bills. Until we actually won the Big game. Then we were deemed legit.

Last offseason, despite the Cowboys shipping out Amari Cooper, the team was typically in the top eight or so of the rankings and considered a valid Super Bowl contender. This week, post draft, we have a power ranking from veteran NFL observer Peter King, and the Cowboys have slipped down to tenth in his ranking.

Whatever you think of the ranking, there is some interesting reasoning here about the Cowboys. Their offense can be on fire for long stretches, and along with a top-notch defense, they can rack up back-to-back 12-win seasons. But once they hit the playoffs against the 49ers, the offense fizzles.

The other side of that thinking might have been about Dak Prescott. The Cowboys likely believe, and with some pretty solid history to back them up, that Prescott will not be so careless with the football as he was in 2022. Not all of those interceptions were his fault, but he put the ball in danger too many times. The Cowboys are counting on him not making that mistake a second year in a row.

Other things about this ranking of note. King has the Eagles as the solid number one in his rankings over their Super Bowl nemesis, the Chiefs. Interestingly, King has teams like the Lions at number six, and the Dolphins at number eight. Even the Aaron Rodgers-led Jets have jumped to number nine. All that seems pretty bullish on some teams who are just now entering the upper echelons of the league.

There’s so many pop ups and ads in that link I didn’t even see the top 10 that was provided .

these rankings will be forgotten by the next day, when other rankings appear. Its really a waste.

Does anyone actually have his Top 10? I’d didn’t see it in link??

Everyone is just upset he has us at 10.

It’s there for discussion. These aren’t built in stone . Dime a dozen . But they do provide some basis for arguments .

The NFL is AFC top heavy right now. I’m assuming 6 or 7 of top ten is in AFC. Cowboys are still top 4 in NFC?

These rankings are as relevant as the Cowboys got better than the Eagles thread. lol It's proven on the field.
wake me after the Thanksgiving day game then we can talk where this team ranks heading into the playoffs. If we get there.

Peter King even stated as such in the first paragraph about his take
- way too early
- not ready to form rock-solid opinions on.ranking the teams
- reserve rhe right to change his mind after viewing training camps

The gist of his early assessment...King grouped the teams by tiers (attaching each tier with an unorthodox label), then making a statment or to about each team (a stat from 2022, players or coaches that have left or come aboard, etc.)

The more I think about the media has always doubted the Cowboys. It just wasn’t on social media every two seconds. I lived in Commanders country as a kid. Dallas week was like a national holiday for two weeks out of the year.
