You guys need to stop using Brady........he was an exception to the rule, everyone knows that. He and Belichick will probably go down as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, QB and coach combinations ever. As we all know, money was never an issue with Brady coz of his former wife. In fact, I'm not sure we can find/name more than two other QBs over the last 50 years who signed career contracts for less than their full value. Wonder why ...........
Cause of greed.

50 mil is not a lot of money when you already have 450 mil. The difference is miniscule when you consider that either amount allows you and several generations to be very very rich. And unless you're just stupid w/ the money, it makes your family rich for the forseeable future.
50 mil is far from minuscule

I will ask you the same question that Big D avoided answering in any substantial way except to justify greed.

What is the difference to a person if he gets $450 million rather than $500 million?
50 mil
It’s not greed, it’s life changing money for not only the player but his family and maybe even next generation of family

well, the cash up front counts against the over all contract equally devided in the years and with the salary for the year counting against the cap. one of the tricks is for owners, to add years to contract, and payout cash up front, which is of interest to players and it lowers cap hits, and pushed dead money to future. not all owners all willing to put cash out.

so to your point, Dak's current cap hit in 24 is 59, dead cap money is 61 M, his salary is 29 M. so 30M is from previous restructures and bonuses paid out. they can restructure again, perhaps add a year, and push some of 29M to future and spread that 30M into future years. doesn't necessarily mean he is getting a new contract, its spreading the money in additional years and maybe reduce the 29M salary to 10M and give him 19M up front and spread that into future years and depending on number of years added, the cap hit of 59M becomes 30M or something (don't get hung up on the actual numbers, my point was the ...creative salary cap accounting that happens in NFL).
I doubt dak would go for a 1 year extension , he will want another 4yr deal probably. and way more money than 40 mil.

the 450 million already provides money for several generations if not squandered.

When is the pile of cash big enough? Most people, like over 99% will never see even 1% of 450 million in their lives.

There has to come a time when you already have thousands of times more than "enough cash" to sustain a kingly lifestyle, and want to succeed in something more substantial than the current high score. Such a thing would be a championship.

It is greed. Pure and simple, because it is trained into us from birth to worship the god called "wealth". They used to call this god a demon by the name of "Mamon".

450 million is not only enough to be wealthy for many generations, it is enough to go out and randomly give homeless people a million dollars from time to time without a strain on the wallet.

So your saying you’d walk away from 50 mil so Jerry gets to add it to his stack lol
It’s not greed to want to get paid what the market bears. How many times have you went to your boss and ask for a pay cut? When you retire are you gonna ask for less social security?

Why are these words never uttered about owners? Some of you guys keep falling for the okidoke and the crab in the bucket mentality created by owners.

Jerry Jones goes and buys a yacht the size of a house. Yet he will negotiate contracts and try to get players on the cheap. And no one bats a eye or ever calls him greedy.

They call an owner a smart businessman for negotiating a contract as cheap as possible. But call a player greedy for trying to get as much money as possible for the same contract.

The salary cap was spearheaded by Jerry Jones in response to free agency. It is an artificial construct to keep players fighting amonst themselves. Meanwhile revenue sharing contracts amongst N.F.L. owners goes up exponentially. Free your mind and the rest will follow.

It is not the responsibility of any player to manage the cap.

When Booger insinuated Prescott needed to work with them so they could fill the team out, he forgot they haven't been flush against the cap every year and they weren't real players in FA.

If your boss comes to you today and says "you need to take a pay cut so I can hire another employee who wants more money", how are you going to react?

All pro sports is about the player getting as much as he can while he can.

And those using Brady as an example might be forgetting Belichick was getting ready to trade him for the more affordable Garoppolo and Kraft stepped in and actually said Brady didn't have much choice if he wanted to stay with the Patriots. And Belichick was the guy going after talent to put around Brady, so he was using the money.

Unless that player wants to win, then it is.

The player has no control over what they do with the cap space or what players they add to the team or the players they draft.

I think most pro athletes define winning by the contract.

It is when you have 450 mil.

Perspective, dude. Think, man. Exactly what can you do in your life w/ 500 mil that you can't do w/ 450 mil?
Never speak for another man's money. You don't know how he wants to invest it.You don't know how many people he has depending on him. Their intricacies. No one can know. I've known N.F.L. players who are taking care of a network of over thirty people and keeping dozens of others on payroll for various services. This is why telling someone to take less based on what you perceive as "enough" is not correct.

Taking less money has no guarantee to you will have a Super Bowl winning season. If you take a pay cut and don't win the Super Bowl, should the team give you that money back?

Let's repeat this for those who either forget history or don't know it. Jerry Jones spearheaded the salary cap in response to expanded free agency in the mid 90's. Yet Jerry Jones has shown to be a buffoon at navigating the salary cap and coming up with a Super Bowl winning roster. So why should kids who were not even born in the 90s be punished for Jerry Jones buffoonery? These young men have a limited time to make a lifetime worth of income. Their bodies will break down and many will have lingering injuries for the rest of their lives. Look up the N.F.L. pension and be prepared to laugh.

The N.F.L. is full of some of the most powerful athletes on Earth yet it is coupled with the weakest Union in all of pro sports. Not good protection for players in a violent game with a short window of play. So this "crab in a bucket" mentality of you take less for your fellow man was ushered in at the behest of a buffoon such as Jerry Jones. The same man who can not navigate within the crab in a bucket culture he helped create. So why should any young play suffer behind this? Meanwhile N.F.L. revenue sharing goes up amongst owners exponentially. No calls Jerry a idiot for buy a Yacht he does not need.

No one calls the owners cheap for negotiating contracts as low as possible on their end. Yet fans have no problem calling a player selfish for asking for the most money on their end. Common every day people siding with billionaires who have more money they can ever spend in 10 lifetimes. These men wipe their derrieres with a million dollars. Yet a much lower income player who has a short window to max out earnings is expected to constantly take less. Free your mind and the rest will follow.

Exactly. Let's say you got a letter from boss Jerry as follows:

"Hi Mr. Johnson. We would like you take a pay cut based on salary control conditions I helped to initiate. I've show no ability to put together a Super Bowl Winning roster since I helped to initiate these salary controls. And I am really bad at navigating within these salary controls which has resulted in 27 years of repeated failures. Would you take a pay cut to help us out with this? Thanks."

Yours Truly,

Jerry Jones

Every player deserves to get whatever they can and they owe it to themselves and their families to do so. But it is still admirable when a player like Brady takes a good but not absurd contract to help his team. The fact is, even if they take less money they are still getting paid a lot of money.

But the NFL has created this circumstance with free agency. Today, I think it is too much about the money. I look at Dak signing his last deal for only 4 years. He knew he would have Dallas over a barrel in 2025 and he knew he could get even more money. If he took $40 million for 6 years he would make $240 million. That is almost 1/4 of a billion for playing football 17 times per year.
