We've seen plenty of players need more than 2 years. Specially at one of the most difficult positions on the field.
In a salary cap environment, teams can’t afford to wait for year 3 or 4. Either they show it or they don’t. And Wright showed so poorly that they went to every other corner on the roster. And then went out and traded for a pricey veteran. That tells us all we need to know.

A bust pick. That’s on Dan Quinn.
Not sure it's all on Quinn. Quinn loves length, but long players can sometimes struggle with transitioning in and out of breaks. Wright clearly has those struggles and it is the scouting staff's job to identify it and override the coaches.

I think from the third round on, you hope that players show something in the first two years, but you understand that it may take them until their third year to overcome the things that kept them from being drafted in the first two rounds. I don't think the salary cap environment has changed how quickly players develop. It does change how quickly you can wait on them. If we see no progress in this year's camp, then you have to move on ... which I think is what will happen.

You don't have a choice. It's a big roster and you have to develop young players. Guys like that will always be at the bottom of the roster. They don't all step on the field and light it up. But if you draft someone later than a 2nd. That guy will most likely need time. The length of a contract doesn't help, but you don't just toss those guys to the curb and call them a bust. Some do, some don't. The 3 year rule is still important.

That doesn’t happen in Dallas. See Taco Charlton.

You’ve got four years. It doesn’t matter what round. At that point free agency kicks in and you’re forced to pay big money. Teams need cheap contributors to offset their huge deals.

That’s life in the salary cap era.

You're always going to have players who need more than 2 years at the bottom of the roster. Every team has those players. 3rd year guys who haven't shown much yet. Even with 4 year contracts. Development is still important.
