Here's the QB prospects over the years that I saw in high school that I thought were sure thing, "generational" Quarterback prospects the moment I watched them.


John Elway, Granada Hills 1978 - I was literally a child but they showed his games on the local Los Angeles channel and I remember thinking he was Roger Staubach with a cannon. He would scramble and evade defenders but then he would stop and throw the ball across his body to any point on the field.
Troy Aikman, Henrietta 1984 - He was at a football camp in Dallas, and I couldn't believe how good of an athlete he was. He was bigger and faster than everyone.
Peyton Manning, Newman 1993 - Being the son of Archie brought him a ton of notoriety, but he was on ESPN making unathletic private school kids look like actual wide receivers.
Andrew Luck, Stratford 2007 - Man amongst boys, I hated that he was going to Stanford and would be playing my Trojans.
Trevor Lawrence, Carterville 2017 - Reminded me of Aikman at that same age only more refined. I remember him constantly competing with Justin Fields (games, Elite 11).
Caleb Williams, Gonzaga 2020 - Saw then what I saw now, Patrick Mahomes.

So 6 years, 9 years, 14 years, 10 years, and then just 3 years between them.

There are people here who should remember how high I was on Patrick Mahomes while he was Texas Tech. So many thought that Texas Tech only produced "air-raid" system guys, but I knew Mahomes was different. Still don't believe he went 10th, and the Bears took Mitchell Trubisky 2nd. I know the Cardinals wanted him at 13 but weren't willing to move up for him. Fools.

The best way I've heard it put is "generational" means like a football generation. A good football career is like 8-10 years.

If he is a CC of Cutler physically, then he is a top flight prospect. Cutler's only problem was his head.

Are you claiming that Maye is a headcase? Why?
 
And if you find the right scouts, they are right around 80% of the time.

Thing is, people don't read. They only listen to the spewing heads on TV. And those guys are there to entertain. Half the crapp they say is purely for entertainment.

People who claim scouts are wrong half the time have not done anywhere near enough research to say that. Soooo, they are simply spewing just like the TV heads are.
 
Has a scout ever predicted someone to be a generational talent in college? Did people say that about Brady? Or Mahomes? Or Rodgers? It’s a immediate turn off when people start throwing that out there.
 
Williams and Maye are special talents, whether generational or not, and few teams would hesitate to pull the trigger with the 1st on either one.

The question is are they going to have to endure what Lawrence and Herbert have had going to bad teams? Mahomes didn't have that.

The other issue is HC match to QB because Mahomes went to the best he could have had because Reid loves that showy improv stuff.

Williams has the perfect match HC at USC and followed him from OU but will he get that in the NFL?

For a number of reasons, this Kellen Moore to SD is interesting because if he improves Herbert, he could be in line for the HC job with the teams that draft Williams or Maye. Because if I am a GM picking one of these players, I am looking long, hard and critically at my HC and his staff.

They're generally right around 90% of the time when declaring someone a generational talent. They just don't do it very often, prolly not often enough to even count.

Last player who they might have said was generational that wasn't was MO. And it wasn't consensus, I read several scouting reports that did not think so. Many had him as a 2nd/3rd round talent.

No one had Mo as a 2nd or 3rd round talent that’s insane.

I don’t recall anyone saying Pat Mahomes would be a generational talent. Nobody said it about Herbert either so it’s funny that he’s compared to Herbert who got taken after Burrow.

It has to be the physical tools. I won’t put that on Maye because I don’t think anyone saw Cutler being the moron he became in the NFL. I think that’s something you find out when guys hit the pros.

That’s the thing about Moore. Dak was good before Moore and Herbert was good before him as well. This doesn’t really help with his reputation of developing guys.

Yes they did. I don't just spew, dude. I saw it.

However, many scouts got their panties all wadded for him, even though his measurables absolutely did not show it. Still don't understand the hoopla over him, never did. I was POed when we traded up for him.

Nope, didn't see that on either one. Last one declared generational was Luck, and he definitely turned out to be just that, but was on a sorry team that ended w/ his early demise as an NFL player.

Oh, and now Barbie. Got screwed his rook year w/ the Urban Meyer debacle, but really started coming on last year(his 2nd). Yet to be seen.

Parsons was called a generational talent by many scouts, but not in a consensus manner. I was beyond psyched when he fell to us. Couldn't believe it. And then I saw many who didn't like it. And you could not talk to them and explain to them how and why it was an exceptional pick!!!!!!!

If they're comparing him to Cutler in the physical aspect, that is a compliment. Cutler had one of the best arms the NFL has ever seen. Tough, durable, just extremely gifted. Phsyically.

It was funny w/ Cutler. He would look so good at times, but then just one little thing happened, and he imploded and couldn't play. I honestly believe he has mental issues.
