Most of my favs have already been mentioned, but gotta mention Terminator 2, great sequel and Raid 2, think it's slightly better than the first which was awesome. Both "Kill Bill" movies were great, been hearing rumors about a third. All four "Mad Max" were great, "Fury Road" was pretty epic.

More recent movies, I liked "Extraction 2" as much as the first one and of course the "John Wick" movies. I didn't like "John Wick 4" as much as the first 3 but still a solid flick. The second "Spider Verse" animated was as good as the first.

And for an older flick the Japanese "Lone Wolf and Cub" movies, all six were awesome. I recently got around to watching all of them, top notch samurai movies for older flicks.
My pet peeves about sequel Kill Bill Vol. 2 ...

the loooong, unnecessary discussion
between Michael Madsen (as Budd) and his verbally abusive strip club boss Larry Gomez:

Had nuthin to do with plot of the movie. Wasted time that could've been elsewhere.

- (Spoiler alert) I flat out hated how fast Bill was killed off, lasted less than 3 mere seconds !
Probably the very worst film ending (and demise to the lead villain) for a great film series ever that I can recall.
Felt like one of those flicks where director was so very tired of the movie and flat rushed it quickly to finally be over.
* Beatrix had all kind of trouble in one on one fights vs Lucy Lu, Vivian Fox, and Darryl Hannah ..but

yet she can
take out the leader of the Deadly Viper gang in just less than 3 seconds

?
SMH.

- Otherwise utterly luvved fight vs Darryl Hannah, how Hannah killed off Budd with a hidden snake,
Uma training with priest Pao Mai, and impressive escape from the grave.
:yourock:

I figure if she'd fought Bill conventionally, he would have destroyed her. Her only shot was to use the one move he didn't know.

That's much the way I felt about John Wick 4 and a origin/back story would be a great idea for #5. I'm pretty sure there is a spinoff "Continental" series coming very soon, Peacock maybe?

I always felt that the JW movies were kinda the spiritual successor to the "Raid" movies, different ideas but a nonstop, stylized fighting/action movie.

Godfather II is the best sequel. Empire is a close 2nd. Nothing else compares.

Continental starts on Peacock a week from Friday, September 22.

Alien: Resurrection was pretty bad as well. IT pretty much crapped all over the previous movies.
I actually really liked Alien Resurrection.. The Ripley clone, great chase scenes and first time

displaying the Aliens
in underwater pursuit

.

It was Aliens 3, that I am not a fan of at all., that I thought was a bad good bye send off from the character Ripley.

Sharon Stone's " Basic Instinct 2 " was horrible.

- Took decades to finally talk her into a sequel of the original classic, ....and by that time no one was interested when it came out (str8 to DVD ?) I rented it and just could not get into it. Couldn't even finish it.

- I liked " Sin City 2. A dame to kill for." .. problem was, the very long delay to make it's sequel.
That took a lot of steam and interest off from the original, and they allowed too much time to elapse and pass by.

- Once Robocop series got passed the second sequel, it has been all downhill since.

- Never understood why they cannot get the Fantastic Four series right, Rise of the Silver Surfer
was a liquid metal look ripoff of Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

- I've never saw Zombie land 2. Didn't even knew it existed.

The entire Bride escaped from the grave scene alone gave Kill Bill: Volume 2 an edge over a great Volume 1. Quentin Tarentino used different pacing for the sequel that worked marvelously.

The very first teaser trailer for Volume 1 is still one of the best I have ever seen as far as how much it created anticipation in me. It did not hurt that Tomoyasu Hotei's Battle Without Honor or Humanity was its music theme, lol. Perfect match.

My list of underrated sequels:
  • Ghostbusters II. On everyone else's worst list, but I can't get enough of the Murray, Akroyd, Ramis humor. A movie that I think has gotten better with age. Many classic lines.
  • Superman II. I think it's regarded as a good movie, but to me, this is truly where the comic book movie stuff we see every week now got started. Superman vs Superman enemies with early 80's special effects. Way ahead of its time.
  • Gremlins II. Better than the original. Original was a Spielberg family movie. Sequel was a smart take on modern society, and still hilarious, much funnier than first one.
  • Adams Family Values. (II) Better than the original for pure comedy. First one felt like they were trying to get a feel for it, but the sequel took off with the comedy, chemistry and script. More hidden smart takes on society too, just like Gremlins 2, with the kids in their Thanksgiving Puritan Camp.
  • Dawn of the Dead remake. Going with OP's thread, not just the original, but the re-make was great too. Being trapped in a shopping mall during a zombie apocalypse such a popular theme it even spawned some video games. Watch this move again today for a "I didn't realize THAT guy was in it" experience with the loveable dad from Modern Family cast as the ultimate selfish jerk.
Yes ! ..What made the remake of Dawn of the Dead a great stand out was the fast running, chasing zombies.
@MichaelWinicki ... sorry, Mike;)

- Gave the impression that if zombies can chase and catch us slow lumbering humans, either one on one
or a horde of numbers, we really do not have a prayer of escape or survival. And it had some creepy
moments, especially at the very beginning of the film which is even displayed in the trailers.

- But even after all of these decades, the chilling gory blood gushing zombie bite eat scenes simply does not compare
to the 1978 version.

- As a teen, I simply could not close my eyes at night for the next 2 nights becuz of that '78 film, and
dare not alert the pranksters of how terrified I was.

- Speaking of zombie sequels, and Romero's " Day of the Dead " and " Land of the Dead "
were also great sequels.

Been a long time since I saw it but remember not liking it. Think biggest issue for me was I loved the #$*# out of Aliens vs Alien. The Marines and the Aliens fighting with Bill Paxton quotes were classic stuff! Basically, it was Starship Troopers, another movie I enjoy, done by a better creative team.

Completely different theme in Aliens 3. Which doesn't mean it was a bad movie but caught me by surprise. I may go back and watch it again 20+ years later. Since that movie was released, I've enjoyed many of David Fincher's movies and TV shows. Wasn't that his first big movie?

Hmm, that statement says a lot. @DallasEast

Especially considering Vol. 1 with the big, wild " Crazy 88 " finale fight, (which is a unique classic now)
But I could understand why the grave scene can be an influence to compare to, because as I mentioned
previously I vastly love that grave scene - combined with priest Pai Me introduction and training.

Plus Gordon Lui (aka Lau Kar-Fai) was always among my favorite child hood Shaw Brothers martial arts movies stars
Ditto with the late Sonny Chiba aka The Street Fighter series.

Totally agree with the " Battle Without Honor or Humanity " soundtrack.
Also worth mentioning " Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood " (by Santa Esmeralda)

(introduced per final showdown with Lucy Lui)
Luv the way Tarantino introduced those two music themes into their respective sets and places in the movie.

Long whispered rumor that Tarantino could make a 3rd and final installment of Kill Bill Vol. 3, (and which would be his final pre-retirement career movie) only how could it then be " Kill Bill " since Bill met his demise in the sequel film.
I would think Quenton would have to rename it.
It's been rumored that the screen write plot for potential Kill Bill Vol. 3 had been reportedly leaked, thus why this
project has been put on ice.

Ironic that 'pacing' was mentioned.
That's actually another reason why I didn't like some parts of sequel, in comparison to the original film.

I previously mentioned the unnecessary long dialogue between Budd and his strip club boss, which had
nuthin' to do with the rest of the movies, ..the finale with Bill blabbering on about Superman/Clark Kent.
i've reviewed it again on YouTube, but still did not understand why Superman/Peter Parker talk was so necessary.

Both movies soundtrack was greatly influenced by Ennio Morricone but the first hint of what was to come was the very first teaser trailer, which was overlaid with the Battle Without Honor or Humanity track:

Both it and the visuals grabbed me hook, line and sinker. The next five or six months were kinda agonizing due to the wait for the movie's October release.

My spirits did pick up again hearing about a possible third Kill Bill but I gave up on it. What I DO know is that Uma Thurman's
real life daughter would be a perfect casting for it:

220px-Maya_Hawke_2019_by_Glenn_Francis.jpg

Her father, Ethan Hawke, is definitely seen in her face but Maya Hawke looks so much like her mother it uncanny. The spoiler is necessary for anyone who has not seen the Kill Bill's because The Bride's daughter, Bee Bee, is a major cliffhanger reveal at the end of the original movie.

Yep, so you no doubt heard of the rumored leaks of Vol. 3 (if it does go thru) .. I dunno Maya's background in acting or action films, but if Uma can learn fighting sequences, could her real life daughter also learn and be the equal of the fighting
act skills of her real mother ?

Would have been cool if Vivian Fox also has a real life daughter that is into action acting and can be paired up in this potential flick as well.

I saw some article links pertaining to the rumored Vol. 3, but that's been so far dated, who knows how close it could be to a possibility. But interesting the actors/actress still have thoughts and dreams of it as we do.

I also forgot to mentioned how
