Dan Campbell admits the Lions were trying to confuse the Cowboys

Dan Campbell has taken ownership of his snafu. But its not enough for the nutty haters on tv and social media. Its heavy panting ...they want a refs head on a stick...

Yes 70 did but you go on with your crap on everything Dallas routine. There simply is no way 68 made it clear yet the ref said 70 by mistake. Detroit and the NFL have already admitted that the plan was deception so that right there tells you 68 did something other than make it perfectly clear he was eligible.
Not to mention 58 being over there for no reason, who isn’t even involved in the eligibility discussion, and he starts the play illegally lined up in the slot before motioning to the right side of the line.

Real honest. Not deception at all.

yeah 68 is in the refs face motioning he's the eligible one is the deceptive one, yet 70 isn't within five yards of the ref not motioning is the eligible, reason and common sense escapes you ....70 reported 6 times during the game, 68 usually lines up on the right side, the ref seen 70 jogging onto the field and assumed he was the eligible again since he was 6 times during the game the ref made the mistake, go watch the videos, it's clear,....EVERY TEAM uses deception on dozens of plays per game, are you new to football, you need the league and a coach to tell you that???

Hickory dickery dock...we won the damn game...Hey...

I agree but can.t let the Dallas defense off the hook that easy. These coaches and players are professionals and should be able to identify eligible receivers by formation alignment. How did the coaches in the box miss 70 being covered and 68 in an eligible position? How did the secondary and LBers not identify this? College and high school defenses have to identify who is eligible by alignment and I would expect professionals to be able to do the same.
I know the rules are different for the NFL and lineman can report as eligible, but have some football awareness and make adjustment. lack of attention to detail.
Because initially, before the shift by Sewell and Laporta, the alignment was correct...with Skipper correctly being the end of the line as an eligible receiver. It wasn't until the shift of Sewell inside (right before the snap) that the formation became illegal. With obviously less time for the defense to adjust, which was probably the calculus. But regardless, no one ever corrected Allen on 70 being eligible so the refs can only proceed on what they believe to be accurate. Once the formation becomes illegal it simply doesn't matter what happens on the other side with Decker. Game...over.

This was a double whammy for the Lions. Illegal touching AND illegal formation. 2 flags...as happened on the field. Campbell rolled the dice and simply lost. His hysterics and histrionics were at least partly to cover his own rear end after trying 3x and failing. His later, more subdued submissions make me think he knows that this one got away from him. Of course he would do it all again the same way. He has a bad case of gambler's fallacy and an inability to accept that sometimes you have to live to fight another day. He cost that team a loss against the Packers...going for it on fourth down inside his on thirty yard line in a one score game. They didn't convert and the Packers scored on the short field to basically ice the game (their d-line was bringing heavy pressure on Goff all day). The worse part is that there seems to be no one to keep him from too often veering off the reservation. He's reckless and it will cost the Lions more games in the future.

I keep hearing this argument that it’s the heat of the moment and Lions didn’t hear the number called. The dumbest argument I’ve heard. So how did the Cowboys hear the number because they clearly had someone guarding the lineman announced.
Probably because you see the ref go over to them to tell them. So they didn't even need to hear the announcement.

Still can't believe some of our own fans are mad we won, and have a great chance to win the division and get the 2nd seed.

It is true Dallas is the most loved and most hated team. Because many of our own so called fans hate us.

Gamesmanship
Sorry, but Ii love it.
It is a game isn't it?

This was my point exactly in the threads yesterday. Bell was assigned to 70 whom they heard was eligible and then the Lions shifted alignment and 70 wasn't eligible anymore yet Bell stayed with him and was one less man on defense had Goff decided to go a different way. Some say "that's expecting too much" out of a defense, but this kind of thought overload is what Campbell was hoping for. It actually worked in an unintentional way because Bell was just taking up space for 70 that he didn't need to. I want a thinking defense that can catch this stuff in the moment. Lucky for them Detroit also didn't catch that 70 was announced and stayed with the original play.

its disappointing really. I truly think many Dallas fans forgot how to enjoy a win. I guess its part and parcel of being unsuccessful getting a SB ring in 27 years.

Only browsing through their Reddit sub. It’s what you would expect with righteous indignation, the NFL is rigged, this is what happens when the NfL gets in bed with gambling, we should stop watching — the usual.

Have you been checking those out? Anything that stands out?
Sounds like CowboysZone when we lose. Lol.

No teams use misdirection within the rules. Detroit tried to use deception outside of the rules and it didn’t work. Bottom line is an ineligible player caught the pass and a penalty was rightfully called. Dallas ended up winning and it’s too bad that makes you upset. Get over it.

Dan lost his freaking mind. Going for it from the 7 after the flag is madness. He should be stripped of his game day decision making duties. Anyone who makes a decision like that can never be trusted again. He is an emotional child.

Like I said, what should be expected from going to such a place.

But I AM a little surprised none of them are complaining about Campbell going for the conversion three times. I think a difference is that folks around here would be criticizing McCarthy more for that and coming up with such a goofy trick play setup.

I haven't seen ONE fan upset we won.

There'd be both here. "McCarthy's an idiot" and "the refs intentionally announced the wrong number."

There is no misdirection when a player has to report and the defense is told by the ref..The team knows the play they're running, they practice it all week and year and especially when Campbell specifically told the refs prior what the play they could use if they need a two point conversion...not upset at all, glad the cowboys won, I'm just not a blind homer watching football....but I do find it funny that Cowboy fans are praising the refs and now a league source(not really credible since it's not a league statement) after game after game they bemoan the ref non calls against the Cowboys players....I'll believe what Aikman stated after the game about the botched ref call because as he explained it, and I went and watched the film, he made sense, and I've only heard a dozen coaches and players state that it's clear to them the ref botched the number call of the player being eligible and the fact the ref crew was demoted not long after the game

That's projection at work. The only ones upset at hearing the logic around what most likely happened here are the "refs are out to get us crowd" who now know that they can't use that excuse anymore because after this and the Philly game, it proves the refs suck for EVERYONE, not just us. That's why you hear the refs are "blameless" here.
