Dan Campbell admits the Lions were trying to confuse the Cowboys

They didn't confuse the referee.
They *failed to communicate* who they wanted eligible with the referee.
Then they *failed to correct* that failure to communicate after the ref made clear they had in fact failed to communicate.

Campbell tried a trick. His team failed to properly execute his trick.

Please don’t. The botched tripping call is the only reason they were in a position to be confused. Plus 70 ran over late. In my opinion, the confusion was 70 had been eligible all night and the ref just botched the numbers. They botch numbers all the time.
70 was the only player who looked like he was making the agreed upon visual signal to indicate reporting as eligible.
Two hands to the chest, then rubbing your hands down the front of you jersey.
He was the only guy who put 2 hands to his jersey.

again this is the main point, the defense HAS TO cover the OL who was reported eligible by the refs...formation doesn't matter here..no other OL can touch the ball. Had the refs called 70# eligible and the Cowboys thought it was really #68 then if the ball goes to #70 its a TD...
Ball couldn’t go to 70, he was covered up and ineligible by alignment. It doesn’t matter if you report eligible if another player

you are incorrect. NFL rules state that the lineman who reports as eligible must align in an eligible position, last player in his line or 1 yard deep in the backfield. 70 was covered up by 2 players and was ineligible to catch a forward pass

Why would you cover an OL who has not been announced as eligible? seriously they cant be thrown to or its illegal touching, so no I'm correct you cover the player the refs announce as eligible because that play can be reviewed and the illegal formation can not... the ref cant announce a player eligible then say after the completed pass "Hey we were kidding it was really this guy" they can miss illegal formations and do and nothing happens.

how could have the lions corrected it after it was announced that #70 was eligible and no mention of #68? the lions didnt have any timeouts. im curious. i believe dan messed up and it doesnt fall all on the refs if not any just curious about this one point.

You went straight down the field unencumbered so why trick it up then? And if it didn't work, simply kick the field goal. They were dead set on winning it and end up costing them the 2 seed possibly. That could be a fire-able offense.

The only people who knew that the Lions wanted 68 and not 70 eligible were the Lions.
The only way for that to get fixed is the Lions informing the refs.
Even without a timeout, presumably the refs could stop the clock to fix the eligibility announcement.
But it all has to start with the Lions.

the ref just botched the numbers. They have to tell the ref who is eligible, not use hand gestures. Those gestures were intended to confuse the cowboys not the ref.

in the end the Cowboys were told 70 was eligible. it doesn’t really matter why.

Yeah. That’s the ticket. Fire the first coach in 30 years who has won the North division for your team.

Jeez! Some of you don’t even think before employing your finger tips. No one is getting fired. Why are you so offended about something Campbell tried to do, but caught caught on?

I like going for it on 4th and 2.
Yeah, but no need to trick it up. Just run a play.
4th and 7 was dumb.

Why would I be offended by a dumb coach who cost his team the 2 seed. Maybe you should back away from football for a while.

so dan could have informed the ref when everyone hears over the pa that #70 was eligible to correct the mistake and the refs could have stopped the play from happening?

good way to get your least liked crew banned from playoff games i guess. Make the crew look like clowns.

Sheila ford meeting commissioner. Commissioner should lower the boom on them for trying to cheat.

Which is why I think Campbell made his comment about two players reporting. He knew from the officials that Decker had given the verbal signal and Skipper had given the physical one. Allen, though, took it to mean only that Skipper had reported.

As I said, I'm happy with the result. We won and the crew that called a tripping penalty on the wrong team that could have contributed to us losing isn't going to be in the playoffs.

They have to do both. That was the problem. 68 essentially just reported but didn't make much of a hand gesture (to try to hide it from Dallas). Skipper didn't say anything, but made an obvious hand gesture (to make Dallas think he was reporting).

Now that the truth has come out and the play has been broken down with the refs getting it right it's time for Dan Scambell and the Lions to admit that they tried to cheat, not only that the idiots talking heads like Rex Ryan, Adam Schefter, and the other balloon heads on TV need to apologize for being wrong for running their mouth and making the Lions out to be the "victim" when they thought that they knew what they were talking about when they clearly didn't have the first or last clue.

I don't get it. How is this suppose to confuse the Cowboys? Don't the refs tell them who is eligible? Where's the deception?
