Why has the NFL not outlawed this distraction yet?

Can these loser franchises really not wait an extra couple weeks or a month to interview coaches still in the playoff's?

I don’t care if Quinn leaves. I expect it this year.

I do care that his mind is going to be other places during the most important time of the year. You are an employee of the Dallas Cowboys until you’re not, so your sole focus should remain on the job at hand and when that job is completed then do your interviews.

This distraction that loser teams are allowed to cause playoff teams should be stopped immediately.

Oh, I hate it. But it's been part of the business forever. Playoff-bound coaches and teams must find a way to ignore the distraction. I think the good news for us is that Quinn is a veteran when it comes to doing these playoff interviews, so I'm not as concerned with distractions as I would be with a younger assistant coach.

I was going to ask the same. I hate when they take the job during this time also it's kind of a distraction!! You have time after the season to handle all of this, let this wait!

Coach gets his tail kicked (coordinator) the team/fans/ etc can say that he was too focus or had his head in other places instead of where it should be

100% agree!!! :hammer:

It sucks but most playoff teams that are 1-3 seed are going through the same thing. Both of Detroit's coordinators, Houston's OC, San Fran's DC, etc.

I think it’s BS. Why should coaches currently in the playoffs take time away to interview with crap teams when they should be preparing for the next game?

Common sense says it should only be coaches from teams eliminated or until after the SB.

Quinn doesn't have to do any interviews until his current team is out or wins the Super Bowl. If he is such a hot commodity the loser teams will wait for him.

I agree. This is ridiculous that this is still allowed to happen.
I know what you mean, but the season runs so long now that it wouldn’t be fair to assistants to not get promotions. Teams can’t really wait until mid-Feb to begin the process of finding an entire new staff. It’s a disadvantage.

Obviously guys are free to interview once eliminated, but it is it fair to restrict someone for advancing, who are usually the most sought after guys?

There’s a way to compromise it, but my theory of owners not wanting to waste time on topics that don’t make them money is probably at least partially true.

I totally agree with all of you. I think it's a distraction and NFL should really look into not allowing it until the coach involved teams is eliminated from playoffs.

Hiring and interviewing can happen between Mid feb and march. It doesnt take long, and the draft is in april. ITs a joke.

Remember, Quinn eventually took himself out of contention for coaching jobs last year. I think he wants the right position otherwise he will stay in Dallas. I have no idea what the right job is but I suspect is it not Washington or Carolina or any of the jobs open right now, except maybe the LA Chargers. But look who his OC would be. I have a feeling he is staying in Dallas again.

But I wonder if he does leave, would Belichick be willing to take the DC job in Dallas? I know it's a long shot given his stature but it would be something wouldn't it?

I'm pretty sure teams still have to request permission to interview a coach under contract & Jerry could deny the request. It has typically been Jerry's response to not deny such interviews though, as I'm sure it is around the NFL.
