Why has the NFL not outlawed this distraction yet?

Can these loser franchises really not wait an extra couple weeks or a month to interview coaches still in the playoff's?

I don’t care if Quinn leaves. I expect it this year.

I do care that his mind is going to be other places during the most important time of the year. You are an employee of the Dallas Cowboys until you’re not, so your sole focus should remain on the job at hand and when that job is completed then do your interviews.

This distraction that loser teams are allowed to cause playoff teams should be stopped immediately.
You want us to lose anyway ......... stop pretending to be outraged

It’s part of the business. Surely candidates from teams in playoffs shouldn’t be at a disadvantage for opportunities.

I dont care i dont think it has much impact on the field as dan quinn has already been figured out by the better teams in the league. Hopefully 2024 post season yields better results on offense but hopefully the run defense is solid

There are no in person interviews until the 22nd, only virtual until then. I do think there needs to be a set date of no contact, maybe after the championship games or something but this isn’t new to the NFL.

Fans forget the ultimate compliment for a franchise and their HC is one of their asst coaches being pursued.

Franchises want to fill these openings quickly. And it’s usually the more successful teams in the playoffs who are being pursued.

Not sure it would be fair to the coaches still in playoffs to be passed over because of distractions.

This might be the first time you and I have seen eye to eye, and agreed 100%

I'm pretty sure teams still have to request permission to interview a coach under contract & Jerry could deny the request. It has typically been Jerry's response to not deny such interviews though, as I'm sure it is around the NFL.
Contracts likely state the coach is free to interview for a HC job at anytime. Permission to interview is mandated. If a coach is deemed good enough to be considered for an NFL head coaching job it can be assumed he’s good enough to do his coaching/ coordinating job at the same time. If that weren’t the case he wouldn’t be getting the interview in the first place. With Harbaugh, Vrabel, etc. out there available to interview now, why would Quinn’s agent agree to a deal where he would have to wait to be involved in the interview process?

Should never put that in a contract. If teams are REALLY interested, they'd be willing to wait. Winning teams shouldn't be penalized during the ongoing season because loser teams want to poach. Even 1 hr of (especially coaches) time is too much. Let the losers wait. There's many weeks after the Super Bowl to the draft. Plenty of time to hire/strategize/etc. Once said teams season is over, then who cares? Fine have at it.

I was talking about NFL rules. I don't think a coach's contract can override that.

But somebody else mentioned that the requirement for permission only applies to positions below head coach. Now that I think about it that seems right to me.

Wait what? We agree on something?? Lol

If we didn't already invest in his type of hybrid players, I would let him walk because I'm not sold on his style. We play too small and too weak against teams that are physical. Luckily for us, most teams like the air it out and don't have the capability to run it down our throats.

I don’t see an issue with it. He’s a professional and I’m sure he can manage his time.

I thought they weren’t allowed to do it until after Conference championships now? And I hate it regardless. I get that you have to get out there quickly, but it has to be a distraction
Don’t think it goes in effect until next season

I think it should be considered "tampering" and it should not happen until the team's season or Super Bowl is over.
It's not tampering when they ask for permission and it's granted.
It's only a Zoom meeting.

I agree with this. I thought that they weren't allowed to do that, but I think the actual rule is that they can't interview him until the season is over. IMO, they should change that rule to say they're not even allowed to contact a coach until the Super Bowl has been played.

I totally agree with this. What does it hurt to delay the hiring process until after the SB?

I think all coaching interviews and hires should be outlawed until after the Super Bowl. They have a free agency window that opens in, I think, late February (along with the combine and trade window). I think the week after the SB should be when the Coaching Hiring window opens. At that time, teams can interview and hire whatever coaches they want. However, anytime prior to that from the start of the season (unless it's an interim coach) should be seen as tampering.
