Our defense was basically going to have to play lights out to win last week.

That was never going to happen.

Pick up an NBA Team. Hoops is in stride right now. REALLY helped when my Spurs were a dynasty and the Romo Cowboys kept choking away. You aren't alone. I have been on Twitter the last week and man, the fan reactions are something to behold. If Jerry could see the reaction of fans I think he would fire McCarthy and Quinn in a second!

My optimism is starting to return, but it is a much more cautious optimism now. I want to see what Jerry does in free agency. If we sit it out again, then I will be pissed.

Your post reeks of personal confusion. Are you speaking rhetorically? Or seeking fellow members' input? I am certain others will make helpful suggestions if it is the latter. I’m trying to help this poor soul. I get upset like anyone else but to still be miserable a week after a loss by a franchise that you have no affiliation with other than personal fandom is not healthy.
