This is the definition of an underwhelming hire.

Not only is Zimm a retread, he’s the textbook definition of a “Jerry Guy”.

This was about as comfortable a hire Jerry could make after stating he was “going all in” in 2024.

Jerry has less than zero credibility as a football guy. This hire does absolutely nothing to change that.

**MM's margin is razor-thin...he needed a cheap DC who can hit the ground running
Coaching salaries are not bound by a salary cap. Any coaching contract compensation is pocket change for Jones. It is highly doubtful 'cheap' was Jones' reasoning behind the hire.

relax man.

Zimmer's coaching record is excellent.

And he's HC also.

If he was Nolan, I would worry.

that AA Gap defense is for real. Jim Johnson made it famous.

I’m still on the fence. It all depends on if we get LB’s. If they go cheap in FA and only sign our own this thing is cooked.

I think considering our options zoom is a good candidate for this upcoming season. We will know more about McCarthy and whether he will be the coach in 2025 so for this one season I think Zimmer was a good hire. Your thoughts?
Dude, how long have you been around here??

you are asking people who are not happy, that'd be about 75% of this forum members been on a rampage since the gb loss ie was 5050 turned 75-25... Have you seen the post about the head coach and the quarterback a weekly thing like are you happy with these people and almost all of them have said no....

These are fans that are mired in negativity most of the year all they talk about is the downside of being part of a team that can't make it past the second round of the playoffs.... I guess they don't realize it could be much worse much much worse,

I mean I don't get how winning 36 games, two division titles, going to three straight playoff games in the last 3 years, having a quarterback that's never been part of a losing season, also a quarterback that's went to the playoffs now what five of his seven healthy seasons not counting the year he broke his ankle,, a qb finished 2nd in mvp voting was top 5 this year his career easy hes top 5.but they demand a new team a new owner all new coaches and players.

NO ONES SAFE LOL Zimmer wil be judged on every snap, every series; heck if his D looks bad in Training camp you know those fans and media who watched and made every Practice INT a news story for dak last year, they will complain all offseason on how bad Zimmer looks without remembering how bad DQs d looked in ALL the big moments last year.

When you look around the league and you see that there are about 20 teams that are far worse every year and we're finishing in the top six most years, I get it there's disappointment because it's been so long since we've been to an NFC championship game, the games frustrate me just as much as most people but I know in sports there are far worse situations than being a Dallas cowboy fan we're still on prime time we're still talked about we're still relative we're still actually winning...

Now on the Mike Zimmer thing,

I'm indifferent I like to see results before I make a decision so let's see what he does this year let's see as a whole on whether Prescott gets extended does Mike McCarthy keep his job I mean how well do we do in 2024 that's to be determined nobody right now can say whether this is a good or bad situation until we see the results....
I mean given the situation I'm fine with Mike Zimmer but I don't think it'd be much different with Rivera or Rex Ryan because right now we have a coach and a quarterback on one year deals and we don't even know what 2025 is going to be like so let's just sit back and watch 2024 before we judge it....

It really doesn't matter.

If the team takes the same approach to the off-season they always do, we won't win any more games this year.

If they do change their approach and actually sign free agents, we still have a fundamental flaw at QB.
Wow only three posts in and someone has to mention the quarterback you know the number two and MVP voting top five quarterback this year top ten quarterback for his career still gotta be a target in everybody's mind the flaws at quarterback even though the defense gave up what 7 touchdowns we just give him credit for five and the fact that you couldn't stop anybody any big games this year the fact that the quarterback didn't have a strong run game or a consistent offensive line but yeah let's blame the quarterback no the fundamental flaw would be the team we didn't have a good enough team to go further this year... So yes we would need to fill the holes we would need to put a better team on the field to win games in the playoffs who would have thunk it I mean I I wish they would take Emmett Smith and Tony Dorset away from Troy and Roger and give them a inconsistent piece together offensive line and see how they would have played because they never had to experience that ohh and I'd like to see all the defenses that Tom landry's teams and Jimmy John's teams gave up five to seven touchdowns in the playoffs...

So back to reality where we don't try to blame the quarterback the team is flawed they have a fundamental flaw in the team building and it starts in the trenches and it's up the middle on defense it's finding a better run game that is football 101 I've seen far worse quarterbacks make championship games on the backs of their defense including the fact that you wanna watch the Ravens the MVP quarterback who couldn't score more than 10 points even though his defense pitched a shutout in the championship game in the second-half gave him every single opportunity to come back same thing with the week before somehow Lamar Jackson gets all this credit from the league because he can run the football a little bit he's not a better quarterback than Prescott I put them on about an even level but this man's defense gave up three points in game one and only gave up seventeen points to the Super bowl championships but all in the first half, they literally gave Lamar Jackson an entire half to try to make up that small gap and they lose 17-10 Lamar Jackson couldn't get it done.. So Prescott is fundamentally flawed how does he finish #2 to Lamar Jackson how does Lamar Jackson win MVP and talked about all year he had the number one defense in the league they ran the ball the best at any team in the NFL and they stopped the run better than any team in the NFL and they still couldn't get to the championship game....

And that's just one easy example from this year we could go on and on forever but I won't do it stop blaming the quarterback I've seen worse quarterbacks get to championship games because they actually had a team I've seen quarterbacks get picked up no matter if they throw 2 interceptions in the Super bowl they still win... When you have a full team to compliment each other on the field they pick each other up in all phases they don't expect their quarterback to play perfect I've seen it with Tom Brady throwing 3 interceptions in the championship game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and they still win the game nobody cared that he threw 3 interceptions because his team was better same with Matthew Stafford we see it all playoffs I've seen many teams with quarterbacks that make mistakes but they ball up and they give him a chance to make up for it our defense gave our quarterback no chance in any big games this year....
Without Prescott playing the way he did this year in the regular season we wouldn't even won seven or eight games this year which actual average quarterback that you think this guy is... He literally is being left out on an island too many games and there aren't many quarterbacks in this league that can play without help it's been a disaster in many playoff games whether it's 14 penalties or defense I can't stop the run or defense I can't stop Rogers or game plan sucked from all phases of coaching yet yeah let's blame the quarterback....
We can go on forever but some of the names off the top of my head that got carried into Super Bowls,
you know like Kaepernick and garoppolo ,Nick Foles ,Jim McMahon, Trent dilfer ,Brad Johnson, I mean we saw Mark Sanchez and Blake Bortles playing championship games because their team was so great around them. I mean you put Prescott on those teams they win a Super Bowl, I can give you that as a fact IMHO...
You have to have a better team ,you don't have to have a perfect team, you don't need to have an all in super team, what you need is some kind of run game and play better in the trenches stop the run on defense you know keep the score under 20 in most games in the new NFL you could probably win but some of the best defenses in the entire NFL all time historical defense held teams under 13 points, that's a fact, A lot of those quarterbacks have either Super Bowl appearances or Super Bowl rings because of their defense and the way they played in the trenches..
Offenses make mistakes we saw it in the first half of the Super bowl but those defenses kept that game close and allowed their offense to make up for it and get some tracks in and find a way to slowly dig their way out of a hole, we don't have that Dan Quinn's defenses were never that neither was rod marinelli or Mike Nolan...
We have yet to put together all three phases on the field together... Because you'll say hey the defense played pretty well against San Francisco in the playoffs and I'm gonna tell you they didn't play like a championship defense and yeah they played pretty well but then we didn't have a run game or offensive line didn't play well when you have 11 penalties on the offensive line you playing the quarterback for the loss, that's precious...
We literally have had some part of the team fail in a big way in big games that led to the fact that the quarterback had no shot at playing well-being 1 dimensional with no run game or having a defense that can't stop anyone or an offensive line that's inconsistent, that is not how you draw up game plans and had a win against better teams..

The last time the franchise had it all together was 1993.
Jimmy and the staff and the team

Since then we have been dragging around the dead weight of Jerry and depending on the year a lousy or just good coach; staff mediocre to good; QB sometime very good; roster good to very good
the very good to excellent has never covered all areas of the team since then
THAT is why we are where we are
PRETENDERS
not
CONTENDERS

I guess we can check back in a year.

My prediction: Dallas goes 9-8 or 10-7. I don’t think we make the playoffs.

The problems are bigger than Zimmer.

McCarthy isn't going to be here in 2025. The FO doesn't have confidence in him, but they're too cheap to pay him to go away. He's a lame duck coach with a retread defensive coordinator. They're essentially going to run out the clock on the next season.

**MM's margin is razor-thin...he needed a cheap DC who can hit the ground running
** There is a good chance Zim will improve our biggest weakness defensively (run game)
**Love the fact he's spent the last couple of years connected to the college ranks. That could help finding some good late-round draft sleepers
I agree who else would have came in here Jerry wants to win now he said he is in now Zimmer will get his style of players and use what players we have he has been around the college ranks so he still been in the game

First of all that's absolute nonsense I had nothing to do with it one year left on his deal... It had far more to do with the fact that he is the offensive coordinator and the head coach that actually has won 36 games two division titles and been to the playoffs three straight ears and the window slightly cracked they're gonna try to win this year this is not a throwaway year that is nonsense I don't know what owner who does that without purposely tanking and that's not what they're doing they never have..

75% of the new hires this year were all retreads 100% of them in the NFC East were all retreads the carousel of coaches is very small in the NFL most of them are all moving from team to team there are very few new hires as far as coming from college or first time at their position very very rare and that's not a guarantee and none of it means anything you think there's indicators here and there is not...
Jerry is giving Mike McCarthy in that offense and his team won last shot that is it this whole retread nonsense it is a dumb word it is pretty much how the world works you know how many people that changed jobs around the world but they have the same position and they work for many companies over their lifetime all in the same position they get hired either quit or fired and they get rehired in the same position in the NFL it's no different veteran coaches have been passed around from team to team for decades upon decades upon decades... It's pretty much normal again there aren't very many new hires there are few but it's rare but the normalcy around sports is coaches are moved from team to team they're all retreads.
So when you wanna make a comment so you feel like you know something and you wanna feel like you want me to 1st to say it you're not and you'd be also wrong you don't know what garry's intent is but I can tell you this it isn't to lose on purpose because of a one year contract it'll be a lot different if you owed him four years this man has won a lot of games over the last three seasons yes we fall short in the playoffs but there's a reason he's here and not fired it's more because of all the games they won two division titles three straight playoff games and 36 wins over three years it's not something you typically get fired over... Him not getting a new deal is actually being shots fired at him is saying you either get better go further in the playoffs or you won't be here in 2025..
You need anymore proof than Jason Garrett was a lame duck coach actually went to the playoffs and got a new contract here with Jerry Jones he was not on a one year deal because of the money he was told to go win if you want a new contract and in this case with Mike McCarthy they wanna see an NFC championship game appearance at minimum or he's gone so yeah the likelihood he's probably gone but it has nothing to do with a lame duck here players usually have what we call contract years why don't we call them lame duck years but most of the time those players step up and play pretty well Jerry is challenging Mike McCarthy Mike Zimmer is just a normal hire he just left Minnesota he's been in the league even since here and he also was a consultant with sanders team at one point...

There are no "good hires" anymore within this organization. We hire for comfort (entire team comfort) over hiring to win. Mike is gone after this year, Zimmer will be in. It really doesn't matter who the DC is, because we won't do anything to improve the trash we saw on the field to end the season.
