Name the prospects that you think are “overrated.” To be clear, being overrated doesn’t necessarily mean you think they’ll be a bust (although you could) or even a bad prospect. It just means they may be overhyped by the media and casual fans.

I’ll give you mine that was the inspiration for this thread: Brock Bowers

I think he’s a quality prospect but I think he’s going to measure a little small than what you’re used to seeing as a traditional Y-tight end. I don’t necessarily ding him for that but I think he falls more of an H-back type. Great college career but I don’t see him as a generational type prospect some purport him to be.

Probably 50% of all drafted players are overrated. The draft is such an inexact science. The players who tend to be overrated most are players who are on talent loaded teams like Alabama, Michigan, Georgia, etc. They look better than they are on film because they are surrounded by other players who are super talented.

Anyway, here are a few of the guys I think are vastly overrated:
  • QB JJ McCarthy, Mich- he’s a talented but thin college QB who was surrounded by NFL talent. Good but not great arm, and small for the hits he will take. I don’t think he’s NFL level good. He will be drafted too high and be a career backup IMO.
  • RB Trey Benson Fla St- he’s going to be drafted too early. He’s a good, solid RB who is capable of being a decent RB by committee guy. Just not a stud.
  • WR Rome Odunze, Wash- IMO a really good college WR who will probably be drafted too early. He’s certainly an NFL level receiver but his college QB Michael Pennix was incredibly accurate and made Odunze look better than he is.
  • RB Blake Corum, Mich - Corum is another guy who greatly benefitted from NFL talent around him with that Mich OL. He is small, and not particularly fast although very quick. He will be a good addition to a committee RB situation but more like 8-10 touches a game.
BTW, I think Brock Bowers will be really good. Maybe slightly overrated because of his injury problems lately.

Brock Bowers woaaaahhhhhhh…would you take him at 24?

I’m gonna go with Brian Thomas. I think the size / length / athleticism combo is going to be rock solid but the top 15 talk is wild to me.

Caleb Williams
This^^^^^I mean may be good but I'm not he will be as good as advertised. It's interesting coz before the season started, some were calling him the 2nd coming of Mahomes, maybe better. That rush to his head a bit coz we started hearing about his brand and maybe pulling an Eli Manning to control where he plays. Then ........top rank teams start exposing him. Either way we will find out but to me, he may be a better player but I think Mays will be a better QB.

I think it’s closer than most think between Maye and Williams but they are both studs IMO.

Caleb’s OL was a mess so I think a lot of the hype is around him to turn into superman and just make so many plays when things break down.

I can see some GMs and coaches looking at Caleb and thinking Mahones light which would still be a top QB.

He’s got some special ability for sure. I don’t think he’s clean as Luck was but he’s still a very good QB prospect that is deserving of going 1 overall.

At 24? Certainly, depending who’s left on the board.

To my point, Bruglar had him going #5 overall in his mid-Jan mock draft. Jeremiah has him rated as his #8 rated prospect overall.

Yea - positional value is tough when figuring out where to peg these guys but I
you’d be hard pressed to find a lot of better players coming out.

If a team uses him correctly and gets him a lot of touches I think he’ll be a monster.

I think this is a really strong draft class at the top... I've watched most of the top 20 or so guys at this point and gone "yep, he's a stud."

The only guy who I don't really like is Dallas Turner. He's 240 lbs and doesn't play with any power. The DEs who've succeeded with that lack of size, and without a real power move, are just mind-bendingly fast. Think of like Parsons or Ware. Turner's an athlete, but I don't think he's in that kind of rarefied air to justify a top 10 selection. He could be more like a Fowler.

100% on both of these.

I have no concerns about Williams being willing to play within structure. I think he forced a lot of plays this year to try and make something happen for a bad offense, and he's able to dial the risk-taking back if needed.

Yea, I think Turner is a little overrated at this point. The traits are there for 1st round but top 10 feels rich.

That athletic profile you’ve referenced is why I’m so high on Chop Robinson. His burst / bend combo jumps off the screen and I’d put it up against anyone in this class. His 10 yard split and 3 cone are going to be bonkers.

Amarius Mims. Slow feet and balance concerns for me, maybe more playing time molds him into the player his size and strength indicate he could be, but I could see him being Evan Neal 2.0 just as easily and I’m not gambling our R1 on that personally. Plenty of project tackles in R2/3 as well.

I believe Mims, Guyton, Morgan are all a bit overrated and have their flaws. Not really loving tackle in round 1

Man I’d disagree with that take…they aren’t perfect by any means but in some classes they’d be top 20 locks. The fact they are realistic options at 24 is epic due to the strength of this OT class.
