Kendricks is nice cover.
It allows the team to draft OL/WR in the top 2 rounds if as expected according to every mock draft they are the BPA.
It also gives someone the mic on defense who knows Zimmer's scheme which is important for fast implementation.

But it is still at best a league average type position unless you get Overshown walking in as a stud.

Could be another vet fall through the cracks.

I still would have made Jordyn Brooks my "big" signing. 3/30 manageable year 1 hit.
I would say the first 3 needs would be starters at LT, Center, Running back or Linebacker.

Finding a 3rd corner is also a need if JLew and Gilmore aren't retained.

They have a zillion needs depending upon what they do this week and next but Kendricks lowers the temp on LB to want not must have.
they do not appear to have gotten a lot of value of last year's draft so must really avoid pigeon holing positions.

I did a few mocks (which I know are a complete waste of time because of course no one has anything near a real board) and OL and WR were insanely deep at both sites I used.

49ers are signing former Chargers LB Eric Kendricks to a one-year deal, per source. Kendricks was a Chargers captain last season, when he started 14 games and finished second on the team with 117 tackles.

Now, that is a very strong group here and now. It also allows for a drafted player to be added and make this positional group a very class act added with a strong defensive coach as well.
LVE is going to retire and Parsons is a DE.

No, Parsons has duties from the linebacker position and no one on site knows if LVE will in fact retire...yet.
Thinking like this is why we were short LB's last year.

Even if LVE comes back, he will get injured. Parson's will take 90% snaps at DE and we will wonder why we are short at LB, AGAIN.

LVE isn't returning and Overshown is coming off a serious injury that will see him struggling to be himself the first year back. It's not as strong of a group as you claim. Especially when Parsons plays out of position a great deal of the time. They will have to draft a LB to fill this deficiency.

Regardless the group will struggle without adding a solid DT.

Surprised Hankins was not already picked up.

Wrong evaluation for failure last season. Two injured linebackers. And not evaluating the real value added to the positional group here and now makes credibility change. If one has to see three playoff wins now to see any value and meander away from talking rubbish about the team...that is on you.

There were practice squad fill ins that were respectable, but with only 3 game windows for use. Cap was the limiting cause there. As with other linebackers available and talented to end the season.

Overshown is a strong linebacker and will continue his growth at a strong level this season. Don't just throw out another he's not Lawrence Taylor comparisons and is of no use to yourself. Oh, his presence will be there this season.

The story for linebacker is no where over now, until the April draft...talent is there in this group, and the box area is the focus for the current Defensive Coordinator.

Running back has to be solved and not just filled...and I would fill both of your positions high up at the top of the draft. Trade Smith for a runner in some way, is a thought to be creative around.
