The Fields trade is the one that gets me the most.

In retrospect that Lance trade looks horrendous. Still time to make it work though. If he is a throwaway it will go down as one of Jerry’s dumbest moves.
Same, I thought Fields had legit potential and they gave him away. He was worth more than Lance. I'm not down on Lance either. He's an unknown as far as I'm concerned. I'll wait to see him in the preseason before I begin to form any conclusions. Fields has actually had some runs or production. I can't not see him as the better prospect.

I thought Purdy got injured and it was way more serious than the injuries that Trance had.

If trance beat out Garoppolo then he should have been a legit back up for the next few years.

Why was there a need to sign Darnold to a $4.5M as a back up QB.
Purdy's injury was the 49ers last game of the 2022 season and he was healthy by the time the 2023 started, so he didn't miss games. He's only missed 1 start since he first became the starter, and that was the last game of the regular season last year that had no playoff implications.

Lance's injury was the 2nd game of the 2022 season, so it necessitated him missing a lot of games.

As for Darnold, keep in mind the context of my comments was responding to the claim the Cowboys paid more for the QB that has done the least from the 2021 draft. I didn't suggest Lance wowed everyone in SF, just that there were other QB's from the 2021 that have not done as much as Lance and that cost a higher draft pick than the Cowboys used to trade for Lance

Yet many CZers' responses over the previous six weeks - here in the Fan Zone, along with comments in the Draft Zone - want the FO to trade down a few spots from 24 (28th is the most preferred selection landing) to recoup that 4th round pick.
From what I've read - I'm guesstimating 2/3s to 70% of those weighing in prefer the Cowboys do that...JMO.
I would trade down twice if possible. Trade #24 to the 49ers #31 (late 1st round) and their #94 (late 3rd round) & #211 (late 6th round). Then trade newly acquired #31 to the Commanders for their #40 (early 2nd round) and their #100 (last pick in 3rd round). That would give the Cowboys 10 (possibly 11 if able to trade Lance) picks instead of their original 7.

1st round: 0
2nd round: #40 and #56
3rd round: #87, #94 and #100
4th round: 0 (unless they can trade Lance to Minnesota Vikings for a 4th (either #108 or #129)
5th round: #174 (very late 5th round)
6th round: #211 and #216 (late 6th round)
7th round: #233 and #244

I support Trance sitting on the bench. I would have supported him even more on someone else's bench. I would have preferred keeping our 4th round pick and $5M over a 3rd QB that will not play.

We will find out it was a waste of time.
Maybe, but even if they do let's not pretend no other team ever finds out some of their draft picks or trades were a waste of time. There are no guarantees.

You have to admit it’s funny. Denver sends a sixth round pick to NY Jets for Wilson, a 7th round pick, and the Jets are paying half his salary for 2024. The Cowboys sent SF a fourth round pick and are handing Lance $4.5 million on the 5th day of camp in July. It’s either laugh or cry. Might as well laugh.
I wish it was funny.

depends on whos the board when on the clock but I like it not sure what the draft chart says so ill take your word for it. they cannot go without at least 1 OL a LB early 40 and 56 could get you that. Get your RB in the 3rd along with a WR and maybe DT. the rest is depth.

For all the many stupid trades the Jones dopes have made, I don't think this is one of them. Could they have gotten him for a 5 or 6? Maybe. But that is not a huge risk for the potential upside the kid has. Lets see this kid play one preseason before we declare it an abomination. Sending a top 10 receiver in his prime away for a $&$ 5th rd pick was an abomination.
What upside? He will not play this year and be a FA. Where is the upside? Please explain to me?

What was the upside when we made the trade.

Anyone?

It doesn’t exist. The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

The Cowboys have kept quiet on how Lance is progressing until recently when Stephen Jones made a “nothing to write home about” positive comment about it. A thread here mentioned it.

Dunno why this is a big deal. Out of all the QBs listed Lance has the biggest upside. Also, a 4th round pick is pittance compared to what the 49ers gave up, but no one keeps berating them about it.
He was not even starting on the scout team.

You don't become an NFL QB by playing 1 year in college. However GM Jethro and some of our fans can't comprehend that.
So, are you forgetting SF didn't have the same opinion you do, and they spent a whole lot more to get Lance than Jerry did? Or that the only reason Lance didn't start 2 years in college is because of Covid?

if he was brought here with the intent to compete for a starting job it most definately was a reach.if he was brought in to compete with cooper rush then it isnt that bad. Not sure id of given up the 4th though. Maybe a 2nd we screw them up anyway. J/K 4th too much and would come in handy this weekend
You don't draft and you surely don't trade for 3rd string QB's.
