Should the NFL get rid of divisions?

where in the NFC East, I remember the Cardinals I think were in the east. We should be in another conference, we're nowhere near the east

I think there should be six team divisions solely determined by geography. cuts down on travel and makes rivalries much more intense.

Add four more teams. Each conference should ALSO be geographic. Make it north vs south or east vs west. This would also cut down travel.

at the same time cut down on the teams in the playoffs to only four in each conference; three division winners and one wildcard
This would also cut down on the likelihood of one team dominating a division for so many years like the Pats did; and it would also make it much less likely that you have a team with a losing record making the playoffs. It would also put more pressure on teams to do better to reach the playoffs.

All other professional leagues play way more than 17 regular season games. It would take the NBA or NHL playing a 5 game series between each week to compare. And MLB a 10 game series. The fewer games if the NFL makes the schedules highly different between teams in different Divisions.

In a similar vane, the NFL’s single-elimination playoff lends itself to inferior teams upsetting better teams. The NFL should go to a double elimination playoff system. I would much rather see that than another regular season game. Oh, and do away with the playoff bye.

You could do more matchups with the best squads and do away with certain divisions that do not produce enough fierce competition. More matchups of the highest seeds would likely benefit ratings and attendance. Force teams to have a more comprehensive approach to team building. What say you?

Not sure about that, but they do need to go back to 3 divisions in each. This 4 divisions w/ 4 teams in each is stupid.

Nope. Would take way too long. The nature of the game makes a single game elimination the best way to go. If an inferior team beats a better team, then they weren't so inferior after all.

With a 17 game season, you could play your division once, 5 inter conference opponents, 8 AFC opponents & a revolving game against another division opponent.

Rivalries aren't what they used to be. This would provide much better year end standings to determine playoff berths & seedings.

I guess I'm just an old dog who cares more about tradition and maintaining the structure of the league as is. I like seeing the rivalries within each division from year to year.

It's all about maintaining those regional rivalries that we've all come to love so much over the years.

Who doesn't love watching Pitt vs Baltimore, SF vs Seattle, Denver vs KC, I could go on.

College football is starting to destroy this rivalries with conference realignment, but I hope the NFL holds onto them.

And seeds should be set like NBA does based solely on record regardless of division winners.

I agree. And NFL can retain the divisions and rivalries. They just need to totally base seedings on total records not on division winners.

Yep, and worse yet those lower record division winners are given a higher seed and home game.

NFL must make adjustment like NBA did several years ago even if they still give division winner a seed. The seeds must be based on record.

Just looked it up, and the states have outlawed it, but you can bet on WWE. Bovada, and even Draftkings makes it possible.
