Is DT out of consideration in rd 1 if Osa does get resigned?

I think the Cowboys are hunting defensive lineman. They picked a defensive end in the 2nd round last season. I think a defensive tackle might be the best value pick at 44.

I guess from someone who thinks numbers are everything this is no surprise
numbers do not show heart or determination or instinct
Look at the best DTs in the NFL, guys like Dexter Lawrence or Vita Vea or Big Q. They're not a bunch of Rudys, they're physical freaks. And they were pretty productive college players too.

Early reports are saying Cowboys are making it a priority to resign Osa to a long-term extension. He is an ideal fit for our new up the field scheme. Same goes for DLaw who also is a fa, where he status is more unknown.

If Osa is resigned, is taking a 1st rd DT off the table for the Cowboys?

The way they think, I believe it is, unless Graham somehow falls in their lap. With a new offensive HC, I think that will be the direction they will want to address.
Depends on length of the contract! If he doesn’t get the contract he’s looking for from around the league based in part because it’s heavy at DT in the draft and signs a 1 year contract then I think they’ll still consider early. If it’s a longer contract then I’d think somewhere in the 4th or 5th round. 3tech is such an important role in Eberflus dshceme they’re going to need an adequate backup and most likely a 1tech that can take snaps to spell if one is injured short term!

One poster suggested they may consider tagging Osa. I haven't checked the possible price of that but it would seem too expensive off-hand.

Maybe transitional to get a chance to match it… I think franchise is in the 20m range or close!
Probably a bit more than his value!

$23M is way too high.....I think his value is $17-20M range.
One option is to let him walk and keep DLaw for a couple of years at a much cheaper price
Lawrence is 32, doesn’t seem to be too interested in taking a bargain. We’ve spent a 3rd and now a 2nd on his replacement. Time to move on. I’d guess his days of playing a full season have past!

One poster mentioned Kinlaw .......he's a late bloomer. Never lived up to his 1st status but was solid last season for the Jets.
Oh hell, it just hit me......didn't we just sign the Dline coach?????

Kinlaw has mostly played 1tech, been injury prone and mostly ineffective!

Regardless of what happens with Osa, DT needs to be a priority in the draft. Mazi is not good and he's the only guy we have. Easily the worst position on the entire team and the direct cause of a lot of our early blowouts last year. We need starters and depth here.

Yep ........

Playing next to Quinnen Williams vs Mazi Smith! Who you figured got more extra attention!
Good point.......I'm not saying Kinlaw will be our top DT but good depth if we can't sign Osa and have to use a high draft pick for his replacement
t. The good thing there is you save $18-20M, especially for a player with limitation as a run defender. In other words, even if Osa resigns and again starts alongside Mazi....who's your run defender? We just invested $18-20M and have the same run defense issues from our interior DTs.

We have seen them use day 2 picks in the past-Hill, Osa, Collins, etc. Yes, if he signs a 1 yr deal, becomes a priority, but in my opinion, should be a priority anyway due to the lack of depth.

I have not once said numbers are everything…but a part of the evaluation.

And from watching from your recliner do you think you have insight into the kids heart, determination or instinct? Have you ever heard anyone say 1 bad word about Osa?

Like what are we doing here.

Yes he has had some injury issues but started 17 games this season and played well.....check his 2024 stats vs Osa, very close.
Good catch with our new DL Coach, I bet if he was high on Kinlaw, we could be in play. Kinlaw might be more of a 1T, but we also need that as well.
