PFT: Stephen Jones on Micah Parsons' contract

He probably won't use the podcast to voice his displeasure
All he's got to do is skip training camp and the Jones cult will come chasing. I don't know why they even bother negotiating. The whole world knows Jerry and his boy have no leverage. Just give the man his 200M guaranteed contract with a no-trade clause and lets move on.

You only trade Micah is you have a rebuild plan. Since the Cowboys don't plan for the future, and think they are always in contention, there is no reason for them to trade Micah.

But if I was Dallas, I would get Micah signed right now. There is no point in waiting. Waiting will only cost more money in the long run.

Per recent NFL history, the Mack trade should be the basis for any hypothetical trade.
Parsons + future day 2 pick + day 3 for 2 firsts + day 3 pick.

The two first round picks in the Mack trade turned out to be 24th overall and 19th overall.
I don't see much value in giving away Parsons, + a 2nd to get two first round picks back.
I'm not sure teams would be wanting to give away more assets and then re-sign him to a top deal-similar to what the Bears did with Mack.
I don't see the Jonses being able to get anything that close. They don't seem to win big trades. But they can not afford to make him the highest or nearly highest paid player either with how they do contracts and still put good assets around him.

They are pretty much forced to pay Parsons a historic contract or risk having him walk because there's no reason to take less because we know they aren't trying to build a winning team and the excitement around this team is bordering on going into the negative, so imagine a mundane, average defense without at least an electric player like Parsons getting sacks. Parsons has all the leverage to get a king's ransom... If Parsons really wants to win, I feel like he probably walks and ends up in Philly where he's from.

This!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean he wouldn't skip camp this year because this year "he wants to be a leader and get the team focused etc etc" Oh and to get the bag! Next off season, Micah will continue to workout in China with the hottest player in the league, last year it was the QB from the Texans, pretty soon it'll be the QB from Washington lol

he said he wants to take less

There's nothing from the front office to lead me to believe they would want to even consider a retool involving moving Parsons.
Only way I could see it is if they situation got as bad as it did for Mark Davis and Mack's agent, but even then I could see the Jones duo folding to retain him

There are actually many good reasons to trade Micah. First of all, his new contract stacked upon Daks and CD's will cripple the teams ability to not only sign free agents but keep many of our own best player as their contracts expire. Second, Micah has become a media personality spouting off on his podcast and it's only going to become a bigger distraction as he uses it to levy criticisms. Third, we could get a cache' of draft picks which is this teams primary mode of building. We have had Micah for 3 seasons and haven't had any playoff success. He tends to pile up his sacks in games like the meaningless Washington game week 17.

I don't think paying him gives the team a chance to improve on the scale its needs to improve. That's said, we will sign him. It's what we do.

The Picture of Competence

Don't sign him, if he plays, showcase him for a trade, see how he fits in the new scheme....will he really leave 24 million on the table, by holding out....
Do we have a 5th year option on him?

Pay the man.
Trade the man.

But whatever you do— DO NOT wait to see what the leaves tell you whenever they fall or whatever the frick you all do at the FO Stephen.

Dragging your feet and waiting gains you absolutely nothing— especially when everybody knows you cave and pay in the end anyway.

For once— step up and get it done early before Watt and Garrett set the bar even higher than it already is.
This 100%.

Extend him to a team friendly deal ASAP or trade him. It wouldn't be a bad idea to gauge what contract demands he has as well as potential trade partners. If you can get 3 1st that's an easy decision, but I'm not sure they would win any trad they make.
No team is trading a first round draft choice unless they’re getting a first in return. Team owners are not going to deny their fans the festivities of the NFL draft. The days of multiple firsts for any player are over. Parsons might garner a player or players in return along with perhaps a second round pick. That’s unlikely. Cowboys best move is to sign him.

Let’s push it to the right until we are out of time and pay as much as possible like the recent contracts

Infuriating approach from an organization that preaches a deep understanding of the cap
