Zack Martin's nugget on Shotty and McCarthy

ZM hasn't been "that guy" in several years. Every time the other guys have replaced him over the last several seasons, the line has actually been better. We have seen it happen.
His leg was jacked all season.

he tried to play it out.

If you’re suggesting Zack Martin the player could lead by example, his current level of play is not the kind of example other linemen should emulate. Zack could probably coach linemen if he wanted to but I’m hoping he retires as a player. The Cowboys pretty much squandered an OL that once had Zack, Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick.
his leg was busted.

Jerry is loyal to a fault. If Zach wants to come back, Jerry will not cut him. I still think a healthy Martin is still one of the best guards in football. It's really up to Martin owning up to his health

Wow….the guy played injured most of the season. He was grinding in pain and limited, but trying to help the team. I’m shocked by the number of people ready to run him off the team. Not one of you knows whether or not he is still better than any backup guard we ran out there last year. His decision on retirement will tell you about his health and about the opinion coaches have about him.

If he thinks he can’t play at a high level when healthy, he probably retires.
If the coaches tell him he’s not that guy any more and he won’t be the starting right guard, then he is even more likely to retire.

After all the guy has given to the Cowboys, let’s not judge him on a season when he played through injury until he couldn’t, and let’s not pretend that guys like Bass and Hoffman or anyone else can replace him until we actually see it happen.

Well, you should not be surprised by folks in the era of social media saying anything to get someone to write a response, so they can respond. Rinse and repeat.

This is no different then a poster saying little Duece is the same player as Jeanty, who coming out as a consensus top 10 talent in the draft. Nothing more then dropping a turd in the punchbowl and Watching the reaction. Welcome to the new updated Zone.

I hate to evaluate anybody on the offensive line until we get an offensive line coach because we haven't had 1 for 2 years now.

Whether we want to admit it or not that culture of brotherhood left when Quinn took the job in DC. It's all you heard about from Commanders players this season outside of Daniels.
Maybe true, but he also took his culture of epic defensive meltdowns in the postseason, so...

post of your life!!

Interesting coz it appears the locker room had MM's back to the end.........

What could it be? Perhaps not drafting a RB? Or, all the injuries? Rookies on the OL. Martin's own decline? Dak's further regression? CeeDee's holdout?

I don't buy this kind of talk. Get good players and watch things click.

Have we? Do you actually think the coaches would play the lesser player and hurt the team just because of his name?
I didn't hear anyone talking about a fall off in Martin's play in 2023.

Jason Witten.
I agree that Witten should have been replaced or supplemented 2-3 years before he retired, but who were the alternatives? We didn't even draft Ferguson until after Witten retired.

Now, if we draft an OG in the first or second round and that guy is better than Martin, I'm great with that. But when healthy, there's no way I'm buying that Hoffman or Bass are better. Those guys don't look ready for more than spot duty to me.

Ummm maybe it had to do with the lame duck coach and the zero commitment to winning shown by the ownership. Jeez Martin went to ND. I would think he is smarter than this.

his leg was busted.
Then he should have sat because he was hurting the team....I understand trying to gut it out but that is only ok if the quality of play is still high, it wasn't therefore he was hurting the team....

And before that it was his back, and ankle and knee. If he had been going to heal up and resume a high level of play, it would have happened before now. Age & injuries have caught up to him.
