Should our focus turn to the OL with these recent hires?

Clearly Brian Schott is looking to fix the running game in a big way with the two recent hires and I love it! Stuck in the 90's team prior history for way too many years, now they are finally bringing in a modern rushing scheme that should get everyone excited. We are well aware they add at least 1 legitimate running back, but what about the Offensive Line?

-Status of Zach Martin still remains in the air as he is trying to get back healthy. Odds are that he indeed with retire, which leaves a big hole at RG the power running side.
-Terrence Steele might be safe now as his best attribute is as a high level run blocker. We saw once Martin went down, cause he was real banged up, how the running game improved.
-I believe Beebe remains our Center due to who we face in the division, but also the lack of quality centers in this year's class. Hoffman could be an option, but he is real light compared to the DT's he will have to face.
-Tyler Smith is our best lineman period, but does offer positional flex that our new staff covets.
-The biggest question mark is Tyler Guyton, who struggled to stay healthy and was benched cause of his penalty issues. They aren't going to give up on a 1st rd pick so quickly, but need a plan if he shows no improvement.

They could target a G/T who can start day 1 inside and kick outside in case of injury or poor performance. With Guyton's penalties and Steele's issues as a pass protector this would be an insurance policy but also can fill a starting need right away.

One thing we should keep in mind is that we need mobile lineman, cause Adams pulled his lineman 2nd most in the league last yr.
 
This one is kinda hard to anwser until new hires evaluates what we have vs Jerry's mandate. For example,

**Can the new hires convince Jerry Guyton at LT is a mistake after only a rookie season.
**What if they see a potential solid player ( LT ) with maturiy and a few technical issues to clean up. In other words they think he will be fine (for now).
**Do they see Steele as much a liability as fans? Even if they do, can they convince Jerry to upgrade the position. ( Remember Steele still 2025 $13.5M salary is gauranteed 3/16/2025). Any decision here needs attention BEFORE THE DRAFT. So cutting him before the draft means replacing TWO OLine starts at RT & RG.

I agree from what are seeing, OLine will be their top priority. Everything with this new offense starts with the OLine. Keep mind they have 3-4 years and for that reason, don't expect spend a lot time with developmental players with limited potential. I personally think we pencil Will Hernandez as top signing for starting RG. The question is whether to move on from Steele.......Just me, but I would strongly consider flex T at 12 even over Jeanty and WRs not named Tmac.

Based on this.........I think JERRY sees only one issue of replacing Martin at RG. I don't think moving Guyton and Smith is even on the radar. Beebe is a lock as the starting C and as you mentioned, Steele's strength aligns with their priorities for the offense.

When you look at Adams and his Arizona OL, they didn't have any stars what so ever, but worked well as a unit. I think now with a more diverse scheme, you don't need another star type 1st rd lineman. What we need are veterans to help these young lineman along. Way too much youth. Bring in a low cost starting Guard, starting Tackle and let our young players compete against them. Bring in a Kelvin Beachum and a Will Hernandez from the Cardinals to help with the transition, if they get beaten out by our younger prospects, they sure of the depth.

We also got to keep in mind, a strong run game helps out our tackles. Defenses can no longer just pin their ears back and rush the passer like they have the last few seasons. This will give our tackles a little more time to hold up. I was on board in releasing Steele, but not right now, cause he is our best run blocker.

Got to add competition for Guyton based on what we saw last season.
 
I thought the line play digressed the last two years under Solari. To me they looked better under Philbin. It would be hard to quantify but it wouldn't be a big surprise if the same group looked a lot better with the new coaches they hired.

Just me, but too soon. Bringing in competition shows a lack of confidence in his ability to correct rookie mistakes. I mean he was a 29th RT pick starting his rookie season LT. His struggles were expected especially technically but my concern is whether or not he has the mental toughness. But I'd rather work with him and give him this year before pushing the alarm button.

I think we need to stick with what we've got this year. Adams is praised for what he did with an Arizona line that fought through injuries. I think he's got plenty to work with here with Richards, Guyton, Smith, Beebe, Hoffman, Bass and Steele. That's seven linemen to find five starters. I'd rather we devote the draft to other areas that don't have a starter or more than one at the position.

Now, if they wanted to bring in someone like Will Hernandez on a cheap deal to add another contender for left guard or bring back Tyron for cheap to back up LT (like Jason Peters did at the end of his career), I'd be good with that. But neither player is likely to take that cheap of a deal.
 
Hard pass in the 1st..weve got 2 1st rounders and a top 100 pick at C. We need to help the rest of the roster.

It’s also arguably the best OG class I can remember in a long time some can get a good player waiting.

Yes. I'd look into bringing him back as a backup like Jason Peters. He went to New York and they saw the same thing that we saw, that he can't stay healthy as a starter. If he wants to continue his career, it needs to be as a backup. I'd rather have him in that role than Chuma Edoga. I doubt it would ever happen, though, or that he'd play for backup money.
 
How good is the Louisiana tackle they got last year? Is he good enough to compete for RT? Otherwise I think they have to draft a tackle in this draft probably one of those 5th rounders.

Richards could be competition for Guyton

Nathan Thomas? We really didn't get to see anything from him yet because he got hurt in TC

I want Richards to be given first crack at LT. I've liked what I've seen from him at the position. He occasionally gets outmaneuvered to the inside, but he's got good strength and good feet and I think he'd grow with the role.

Let Guyton go over the RT and compete with Steele, who is a good run blocker but certainly not ideal as a pass blocker.

I think every player needs competition, and it needs to be real competition, not this guy is going to start because we drafted him high(er). IMO, Richards was not given a fair shot last year because we wanted to start our first-rounder. Vaughn didn't play enough last year because our front office was convinced Elliott could still play. Turpin didn't start getting more snaps until later in the year because we wanted to prove that Tolbert and Brooks were good picks. Dallas needs coaches who play players based on merit, but I'm not sure the Joneses would allow that. We usually have to wait until an injury for a player to get a fair chance.

I really hope you are wrong. LT is not the position where you want a mentaly soft player. Its why I have been advocating Tyler moving there. Tyler doesn't know weakness. Its easier to figure out LG than it is LT
