Report: Pats took less to trade Milton to the Cowboys out of respect

Carroll made it clear at the owner meeting he wanted Geno extension

I guess he wasn't kidding ......

There is no doubt Pete Carroll was already sold on Geno Smith. Smith was his starter for the past three seasons in Seattle.

Would the Raiders have traded for Smith without Carroll’s input? There is no way of answering that question definitively.

However, there can be little doubt what (or who in this case) played a major factor in getting the trade done—as suggested by the tweet you posted.

Keep in mind Pete Carroll is probably only coaching another three to four years
Another thing too Milton is not walking into any team and starting right away. He needs to sit for at least a year or two and then have a shot. I'm pretty sure he was thinking the eagles if the Steelers draft the new quarterback the same as the Giants he being the same situation he was with the pats.
So I can see why I chose Dallas

lol. I think most football fans do not expect Pete Carroll enjoying a long coaching tenure in Las Vegas. And while some observers are getting their hopes up that Je Milton will become Dallas' starter in short order, most folks understand that scenario will not happen without certain uncertain variables falling into place for that hypothetical becoming reality.

Bold red> That is exactly what I was speculating on. In my opinion, that strategy could have been kept to himself. Neither his short- nor long-term opportunity in Dallas as a starter is a certainty--whether it is before or after Dak Prescott's era ends with the franchise.

-I just find it interesting as fans we trash sending a 4th rounder for Trey Lance who 2 years earlier was a top 10 pick with 4 games experience.

-Fast forward 2 years later and we applaud sending a 5th rounder for a player that was a 6 rounder 1 year earlier because they played decent in 1 game?

Anyone else see the irony in our fan logic? I'm rooting for Joe and hope he does well here and the trade ends up being a steal for the Cowboys. However, I just find it comical how we evaluate certain moves.
I know you think this is a smart take but it’s really not.

Dude has tools and he’s shown he can play.

We also have no backup.

Great trade.

Like it or not. The balance trade was good too. Even if it didn’t work out.

High risk high reward with late picks is good imo.

The thing is, Cowboys fans blame Dak because it is convenient.

But the fact is, he was three years old the last time this team even reached the NFC Championship Game. I can't lay three decades of failure at the feet of one player.

The only constant since January 28, 1996, has been the Jones Boys. Dak gets so much hate, even from fans of his own team, he's probably getting close to being in the underrated category.

Dak’s been on some really good teams and he’s part of the problem in big games.

Was thinking the same thing. That can’t be the reason; probably because he’s a Florida kid and Dallas is the only warm weather team on that list, AND the only indoor team
I don't think it was a lack of respect. It was Dallas has an older QB coming off injury and no one behind him to take the reins if he's slow coming off that injury or his time proves to be at an end.

This kid chose the Cowboys over, Steelers, Giants, Eagles, and Raiders........ can't blame him.

Sounds like his agent is fudging his bet that he has a better chance for a starting job behind Dak.
* compete with Dak within 2-3 years ( Dak's contract becomes less restrictive)
* No chance behind Hurts with Eagles
* Giants and Steelers probably would have been similar to Pats, playing behind a young franchise QB.
* Raiders are in the process of extending Geno few more years.

I believe so as well.

Isn't this kinda like Joe Milton publicly disrespecting Dak Prescott by saying he is more certain his best future is in Dallas..? I mean, the Giants and Steelers HAVE NOT drafted their franchise quarterbacks. Whoever they pick is a complete unknown for both teams.

He has already decided he has zero chance of competing with question marks for those teams. Plus, Geno Smith has not been labeled as a 'dependable' starter until Seattle backed him. Yet, Milton does not wish to compete with a veteran quarterback, whom the Raiders are gambling on via a trade instead of through the draft?

I can understand about him avoiding Philadelphia and Jalen Hurts. No one is unseating a defending starting Super Bowl champion quarterback. Should he see Dallas actually being the easiest route to jumpstarting his career hopes?
I don't know. I would fully expect any first-round pick to be given every chance to start. Plus, the Giants added Russell Wilson, Geno Smith was added by the Raiders this offseason and anyone who keeps up with it knows Pittsburgh has been after Aaron Rodgers.

I think he looks here and sees an older quarterback coming off his second major injury in the past few years. Plus, there's no backup other than a journeyman.

I felt like half the season last year he started for them ahead of the UNC QB. Am I right on that?

I love all the funny ideas fans come up with.

translated "out of respect":

The Joneses are so stupid even a known cheater franchise like the Patriots cant take the piss out of them. Would make even them feel too ashamed.

You just dont hoodwink alcoholics and mentally challenged people.

Milton wants a good situation to potentially start in if dak goes down. I hope he pushes dak and causes a qb controversy here

This^^^^1000%
As stated before, his agent is looking for his best chance at starting.
