Joe Milton has 'lottery odds' to become an NFL star

Brady lost his job to Drew Henson and didn't go until the 6th round. The right up on him was basically similar to Cooper Rush that they didn't have NFL arms and backup were their ceiling.
Both Brady and Henson were good college QBs. Cooper Rush was a good college QBs. Nobody ever regarded any of the 3 or the others named as not good enough for college football.

I feel like we are on two different messages boards if you think the reaction here hasn't been ridiculously and I would say delusionally positive. But I appreciate the civil responses.
I think you are paying attention to the few who are very vocal. We tend to overreact to the delusional ones because they say things that are outlandish.

I think if you took a poll you'd find that most here at best hope that Milton contends for the No. 2 job this year and shows potential worth developing further.

There are a few who hate Dak who will take anyone but him as the starter (even if it means a bad season to get a top pick next year to take a QB) and there are some that believe every move we make is brilliant. I don't think you'll find the majority in either of those camps, just the vocal minority.

Milton needs a lot of work.

Odds are Grier will be QB2.

They need another QB.

Although Milton needs a lot of work, I don't think the odds favor Grier being QB2.

Grier, a third-round pick in 2019, also got a late-season start his first year, which he spent as a third-string quarterback, and did not look good at all, unlike Milton. He also started the next week and threw for 4 yards and a pick-6 before exiting the game. He has been a practice-squadder or third-stringer ever since.

There's is nothing on his resume to say that he should be No. 2. Milton at least has the fact that he looked excellent in his one NFL start. He already has accomplished more than Grier.

I don't disagree that they need another quarterback, because I think Grier needs to be upgraded. However, at this point, I don't think it needs to be a veteran. I think we should see Milton play before deciding that.

When you fear Jerry would give up a 3rd and find out we only moved back 40ish spots late in the draft, it’s easy to be delusionally positive. I haven’t felt like most folks think he’s our next franchise cornerstone. Personally I like the gamble for what we gave up.

it isn't unprecedented, who thought Romo and Dak will be 2 time re-signed QBs when they first got here?
And where exactly did that get us? They are both a big part of the reason we’ve never gotten back to the dance. We’re the laughing stock of the nfl and have been for a long time. He’s a bottom feeder that will never win a SB as a starter. Our franchise has sunken to the bottom of the heap yet many fans get excited about Joe Milton. The wheels on the bus go round and round.

It's mind boggling what Jerry has reduced this fan base to.....jumping for joy because he traded for a guy who someday maybe might be a backup or scrub starter. As much as I hate him, at some point you have to blame the fans who willingly accept the slop he serves up year after year.
Spot on! Preach!

If Grier beats him out for QB2 it’s looking like another bad trade for a QB. Grier is a very average journeyman. A young QB with potential going into their second year that already has a start and a win should beat Grier out.

We traded for a 6’5”, 250lb QB who looks pretty mobile, is athletic enough to do a backflip and may have the biggest arm in the NFL. These are all unteachable talents.

He was impressive in his only NFL start, there seems to have been considerable demand for him, he costs nothing salary wise, is under team control for 3 more years and has all the physical tools of a very high draft pick. He has a year of NFL experience already and will have another year or two on the practice field and in the classroom to prepare before he has to show anything. He may even have a chip on his shoulder as well. Is he a project, of course he is, but you are teaching someone with unbelievable measurables and athletic ability. Things that can’t be taught. There is a very high ceiling and we’ve risked almost nothing.

We traded a cup of coffee for the guy apparently because… on top of all that… he really had his heart set on being a Cowboy. If you hate this move, I don’t know what to say…
We’ve suffered through 10 years of a QB with nothing between the ears. Let’s all buy in to another one. Joy! Joy! Buy some more merchandise and tickets. Jerry is the man.

As a Tennessee fan, I can tell you that he will never be a number 1 and, in my opinion, he won’t make it as a number 2 in the league. In one of this biggest games of his career when Tennessee was driving for a TD to win the game, it was 4th and goal and he ran out of bounds instead of trying to force the ball into the end zone for a possible TD or PI. This is a perfect example of his decision making.

The fact that Dallas has a guy in house with TN ties and they still took a flyer on him speaks to the state of our program. Not a good pickup for us IMHO.
So, you are saying that that you don't like the value of this trade?

I love the fact that we traded for Milton. He has raw talent. It feels good to finally have a backup quarterback with NFL level arm strength and could REALLY win games making NFL throws and more than capable of passing for more than 115 yards a game.

I also like the fact that he's a real threat to take the starting job once he's comfortable with the playbook and get more reps.

He's younger than Dak and has more physical tools than Dak.... we're going to see how Dak plays now with a REAL threat to replace him on the team now. Dak never feared Cooper Rush with the overhyped winning streak (as if we won a string of games because of him) or any of our other backups. I guarantee, that Dak will fear this kid!!
You “guarantee” it? How could you possibly know how Dak feels about having this guy on the team? You don’t know.

Dak has a huge contract with one of the largest guaranteed compensation packages in NFL history. He gets paid whether he plays or not. What is he supposed to be afraid of? Not taking snaps behind the Cowboys’ offensive line? Dak is probably pulling for Milton more than any Cowboys fan.

A few QBs will be drafted in rounds 3-5 that would be a better investment than Milton. That doesn’t matter because JJ hasn’t put any stock in the position since Aikman retired. As usual Milton is the bottom feeder that Jerry loves. More importantly he won’t challenge Jerry’s highest paid player in the league joke of a QB.
ITS just sickening the way Dak is so protected.

I'm talking more on the pride side. Would you really want a backup who can make better throws than you while making more money in one game than your backup makes in a season?

I'm not saying the kid is better than Dak right now. But im saying that once this kid is comfortable with the system and has to step in if Dak got hurt, he could potentially play extremely well and that would place pressure on Dak retaining his job long term.

He never had that "fear" with noodle arm, and statue legs Cooper Rush.

I'm not saying Dak is shaking in his boots. Relax....

Excellent? I didn't watch him, but his stats say bus driver. What makes you say he was excellent?

He completed almost 76 percent of his passes (22 of 29), threw for a TD, ran for a TD and had no turnovers. He had a 111.4 QB rating. I would take that all the time and don't know why it wouldn't be considered excellent.

It wasn't like he had a clean pocket, either. He had to avoid pressure and make several throws on the move.

Backup QB is a real thing.

It never fails that cowboys fans expect backups to become the starter. This is Dinucci all over

Not sure what you mean. Those are bus driver numbers.

Hey, if he can move the ball w/o turning it over, great, guess we found a good backup!!!!

Seems like about the same odds as wining with GM Jethro.
