Video: Should Dak Prescott be concerned with Joe Milton joining the Cowboys?

I don't think Dak is looking over his shoulder, nor do I think Milton could challenge him for the starting QB position. But, I also don't think Dak will make it through this season without being injured. Dak's body is starting to fail him just like Romo's body did to him. The real question is, when Dak gets hurt, will we see Grier or Milton? I've seen Grier play, I'd like to see what Milton could do if given the chance over the span of a few games. One thing is for sure: Milton presents the only real dual-threat QB on the team.
I agree! I remember when Dak got drafted there were a lot of fans ready to move on from Romo and I remember thinking at the time that barring injury no way Romo loses his job and that the Cowboys were way too vested with what was considered a fat contract at the time.

But it seems now any time a team finds a younger QB with more upside at a much better price, those teams find a way to get out of the overpaid contract. Would not be surprised at all if something like that happened this season.

Yeah with the back ups back ups just like Lance.

Milton, like Lance, will be forced to look great with guys that will be working at gas stations a few weeks later.

Miltons real opportunity will come when Dak goes down with his yearly injury.
He still has to prove himself with those backups playing against other backups.

However, one reason I don't want us to go get a veteran is because I want Dallas to at least start the preseason giving Milton the "first-team" snaps. Prescott won't play in the preseason and we shouldn't make Grier the starter in his place. Let Grier do mop-up duty to take a long look at Milton before possibly going after a vet.

Will be exciting to watch him in the pre-season especially if we draft golden or tmac
That is true. Any young receiver we draft is going to be out there. In fact, with the receivers we've got, the only one who won't be out there much in the preseason is Lamb. We might limit Turpin as well, but all the others will be vying for playing time/spots.

It could be argued that the best thing for Dak would be a career ending injury is that not what you said.
Would you argue in favor of that
I am not, nor did not argue for or against anything. I simply took a big picture view.

Dak has made his fortune and the chances are very good that his, and the team's best days are behind him and his legacy will only suffer. IF his career were to end today he has his fortune and a better legacy than he very likely will end up with after another four or five years of playing. Nothing more or nothing less should be read in to my comment. I do not wish harm on my worst enemies. I belive in what comes around goes around and I would be afraid my selfish desires towards someone else would end up biting me right in the behind.

One of my many faults is a failure to have learned just how hard it is for so many to get outside their puny little selves and try to see things from a different perspective.

I know this won't stop the simpletons like AC from choosing to twist it into something they can use to attack with, but simpletons are going to be simple.

Yes there is. The Cowboys could get out from his deal anytime after the 2026 season.
If we keep him in 2026, his 2027 base salary ($45 million) becomes fully guaranteed on the fifth league day of 2026. So we'd have to cut him in 2026 and eat $130 million in dead space. Tell me that's realistic.

If you want to cut him after the 2027 season, his dead cap with the $45 million guaranteed will be $100 million (compared to $68 million to keep him).

The reason we can cut him in 2028 is because only $17 million of his base salary becomes fully guaranteed in 2027. Therefore it costs us $49 million in dead space to cut him and $78 million to keep him.

When taking into account his cap hit, you've got to figure in those guarantees the kick in the year before. We're already on the books for all his money in 2026 because his $40M based became guaranteed in March (think it already was though because of the injury guarantee).

The only realistic way to get rid of him before the 2028 season would be to have him waive his no-trade clause and find someone willing to take on the full guaranteed $45 million for 2027 and the $17 million guarantee for 2028. They could probably use those numbers to renegotiate a deal with him since they wouldn't have to pay the signing/restructure bonuses.

We could also restructure in 2026 or 2027, but that would just be pushing some of that base money into future/void years to lower the cap hit and make it less likely we could even cut him in 2028.

Is Jerry smart enough for that?
No. Jerry Jones isn’t smart enough for that. It’s easier to blame Dak Prescott for all the Cowboys’ ills than to accept Cowboys fans’ reality. However good Dak Prescott is, he’s a better NFL quarterback than Jerry Jones is a NFL general manager.

Dak could have a great 2025 season and the Cowboys would miss the playoffs. The team is not good, getting comparatively worse, and the team’s owner/GM is at a loss as to what to do about it.

Ya know post like this make you Dak fans look scared, right?

You hope Milton sucks, instead of hoping he's 10x better than Dak because that would be best for the Cowboys, because you're a Dak over Dallas fan.
Not a Dak fan, first of all. Second, do you really believe Milton will be better than Dak? Dak haters are more unrealistic than Dak fans.

Cooper Rush, if we go by what we've seen most recent from both QBs, is better than Dak right now.

Why can't Milton be?

Only Dak fans think he's the savior in Dallas and nobody could possible come in and be better than him.

The Cowboys season will begin when Dak gets his yearly injury next season. Then will we see what Milton can do.

Dak will be challenged enough just to make the necessary adjustments to retain his starting role. It will also take a considerable amount of time for Joe Milton to master a backup role, if he's really fortunate enough to do so. I think Dak is the type to help Joe all he can, knowing how much he has to learn. Both of them may be safe with their current status for quite some time. Let's wish them both well.

Shut it and quit backpeddling. You said what you meant. Now own it. If you truly didn't mean harm on Dak, you wouldn't have brought it up. Sadly, I personally know many people like you, and they are all Dak haters.

It's the same crap from you every darn week/month/year. Don't you get tired of hearing yourself?
