Donovan Ezeiruaku reminds me of Robert Mathis

Lots of comps but I’ve said since the draft he plays like Dwight Freeny with those spin moves.
I thought about Freeny too. Freeny was 6′ 1″, 269 lbs. Mathis was 6′ 2″, 245 lbs. Ezeiruaku is 6′ 2″, 247 lbs.

The good thing is we know it can work with smaller DE’s. Eberflus and Dungy almost run identical schemes.

Mathis was so freaking fast. I don't think EZ is in that same league.

I don't know who you really comp EZ too. He's obviously small, and he doesn't look that fast or explosive for a 250 lb DE either. There's a reason he didn't run the 40. But he's really bendy, he has 34" LT-sized arms, and has a lot of upper body strength for a small lineman. He just kind of spins and dips and rips off of dudes. Blockers struggle to get two hands on him and lock him up.

EZ's playstyle isn't as clean and projectable as a super fast guy running the hoop, or a Jared Verse type power rusher just bulldozing through a tackle's chest. I think that's why he slipped in the draft. But he gets home, a freaking lot.

Donovan Eze reminds me of the future defensive rookie of the year!

Bbboooommmm!!!!

I’m pretty pumped about this kid. Seriously speaking I doubt he’ll be DROTY but I think he’s going to be a big upgrade for our defense.

CBS just mentioned it being a surprise that he wasn't drafted in the first round. Quote from the article:

"Ezeiruaku may be a total steal for the Cowboys, as he tied a program record with 16.5 sacks last season en route to ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors. In his final collegiate game, Ezeiruaku recorded 3.5 sacks and a whopping 17 pressures! The Cowboys found some great value on Day 2, as they also selected ECU cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. -- who was thought to be a potential first-round pick as well."

Mathis was a d— beast. If he is half that good we hit on something. Mathis got out the blocks faster than Tyson Gay in the 100 meters.

Donovan Ezeiruaku reminds me of former Colts DE Robert Mathis. Robert Mathis was a 5x Pro Bowler. They have similar size and style of play. I'm really excited about Ezeiruaku. He's capable of getting 10 sacks as a rookie.
Joey Porter/Pat Swilling!

*rubs eyes* Am I seeing a positive thread here on CZ? Wow. I'm shocked.

New season, new hope. I hope and pray you're right, hermano. ;)

GO COWBOYS! :star:

Good then we can get Micah out of here way out of here (jk)
I'm hoping Ez can make Micah even better. He hasn't really had anyone who can draw attention away from him and is the focus of offensive blocking schemes. If he can get consistent pressure, then it becomes harder to double Micah and leave Ez single-blocked.

Micah has helped players like Armstrong and Odighizuwa succeed more than they would on their own. They get to mop up because of the chaos he creates. If Ez can create a little chaos of his own, it should benefit Parsons, just as Ez should benefit from Parsons.

This guy will get to the QB. We have enough guys now to go after anyone.

now I hope we have the guys to stop the run

that was what angered me about the boys the last five years DeWare was with us. There was no one to take the pressure off of him. The opposing OC knew he had only one pass rusher to worry about.
