If Blue is legit

Blue played in 38 games over the course of 3 years.

In 37 of 38 games, he carried the ball 15x or less.

Let's pump the brakes on this guy being some bell cow RB, shall we?

Some of you are condoning expectations that are exceptionally high. He may become that. But so much more likely, he is going to be in a Tony Pollard role to someone else's Zeke role in his rookie season.
And some others are ignorant of how many backs Texas had, and rotated, NFL backs....it's how Texas does things.

We should expect more than OK from a 1st round pick.
A lot of picks don’t pan out.

Left Tackles are cornerstone pieces and just because you draft one doesn’t mean they will be good.

I feel good about him though. The talent is there and we can help him with tight ends if need be.

I’m not going to give it much more thought until preseason starts.

He played with a stable of NFL caliber RBs at Texas.

I still remember when we traded for Roy Williams (WR). I hate when we acquire Longhorns... This board always grades them 10 times higher than the rest of the country does.

He's a 5th round pick, not even the 1st RB selected in the 5th round. ESPN and NFL.com both had him ranked as the 14 best RB.

He could turn out to be a player for Dallas, but some people here are talking like he's LaDainian Tomlinson or Darren Sproles walking onto the field day one. Like he's going out there as the unquestioned RB1. Chill out a bit Longhorn fans.

Misses the point, or perhaps, assumes I'm saying something that I'm not.

Let me try again.

In other words, to be fair to your seeming point of saying that... yes, we don't know whether Blue might have been the bell cow back if only he'd been in another program. Yes. True.

We don't know.

Let me say it once more.

We don't know.

What we do know... is... that he is used to a workload of 15 or fewer touches per game. He was productive in that situation.

That's all we know.

And so, therefore, it is absolutely justified to make the assertion made:

"Let's pump the brakes on this guy being some bell cow RB, shall we? Some of you are condoning expectations that are exceptionally high. He may become that. But so much more likely, he is going to be in a Tony Pollard role to someone else's Zeke role in his rookie season."

And to that last sentence, that's what we've heard from people who talk to people inside the Star... that's the intention.

Not my fault. None of that is. It's informed by facts and reason.

Sure but 1st round picks are expected to be cornerstones of the roster.

The makings of a high level offense are there. Now obviously there are a lot of unknowns - what kind of coach Shotty is, can Pickens not implode, etc.

Assuming most of the questions are answered positively you have a potentially good to great OL (although I still have issues with Steele), you have a quality WR corps now, a quality starting TE and if Blue is as good as some claim, you make potential at RB.

That then leaves the QB. Fingers crossed.

That quality starting TE had 0 Touchdowns last season. TE is one of the positions with a lot of questionmarks going into the season actually.

Yup. Maybe people are finally starting to realize that Schultz was a very good player, and what he does is not easy to do, which is consistently get open.

You guys are putting a lot on the back of a late 5th round rb....the likelihood is that it is going to be one of the vets we signed getting the bulk of the carries and blue will be a change of pace every once and a while
Exactly! His draft profile states he has protection issues, and worried about his fumbling.

I have bigger concerns about Guyton at left tackle than I do with Steele. Steele looked to be getting back to form later in the season and I hope the change in offensive line coach(es) benefit everyone.
problem is his form sucks when it comes to pass blocking. I dont mind his run blocking he got better as the season progressed but hes always been average at at best when it comes to pas blocking and it got worse post injury.

ya we dont need him to be a bell cow but the reason he had fewer carries is texas had a stable of backs from Bijan Robinson to Roshon johnson to Johnathan brooks. When he got his opportunity he played well but he canm split time
