PFT, Jerry: "Parson's got a contract, be sure and clear about that."

Why would anyone who has paid attention to the team for years be surprised by these comments? Attention is always the biggest goal with Jerry. Always.

Meanwhile the cost of Micah’s next contract goes up daily.
I doubt that it's going up daily, I'm confident that the numbers are pretty much agreed on.

Theres something in back of my head that I think lends to why these bigger deals wait so long, other teams have been known to sell percentages of ownership for funds for signing bonuses etc.
I'm wondering if there is not a release of some kind of funds ie tv deal or something around time camp ends that pushes these larger deals out and that's why there is no urgency in them.

I've nothing concrete on that other than something I read a while back about selling percentages of team for operating funds for salary cap reasons.

Bingo...league profit sharing money typically hits teams accounts mid summer. I think this is a major reason why the Cowboys tend to not spend quite as much in free agency as the rest of the league, and why these mega deals are put off until closer to camp.

Jerry is a very rich man, but he has been falling down the list of richest owners in the league. Many of those with less wealth than him as you said have been selling to minority owners to raise more cash. It takes a ton of cash on hand to run an NFL franchise, and Jerry/Stephen like to wait for the league checks to get to them before they dip into their own pockets for these mega signings.

Yeah it just makes too much sense

He acts like "hes got a contract" means hes playing hard ball. Unfortunately everyone, especially Parsons agent knows Jerry always caves. There is entirely too much history not to call his bluff. It's so dumb.
Jerry creates the business atmosphere in Dallas. Players main focus is entertainment value not Super Bowls. The country club revenue generators are not concerned with team first outlook.

Jerry must get him signed. Lamb was an easy one, despite letting him skip training camp, etc.. Jerry wasn't going to let Lamb play into his 5th year option and risk him becoming a free agent. That's the mistake he made with Dak that I will never understand. It's obvious he was never planning on a new QB; agree or not agree with the choice, since that was the intent, he screwed the whole situation, just as he did with the earlier franchise tags, by waiting until Dak was an eminent free agent and Jerry had zero control. Idiocy!

The only thing Jerry has going for him with Parsons is that there is no "no trade" clause. Jerry can play this waiting game of his, but his only option is to resign Parsons while he has control or trade him. The longer he waits, the more power shifts to Parsons who can play it out and leave, which requires Jerry to resign him before that happens, or wait like he did with Dak and then give Parsons a piece of the team.

It may mean nothing but this kind of tone from Jerry doesn't help.

Jerry Jones: Micah Parsons is under contract for this season

Published May 22, 2025 03:20 AM

The Cowboys owner said Wednesday it’s been awhile since he’s talked to Parsons.

“I haven’t talked with him in about four or five weeks, and of course, that’ll be necessary if he’s going to get a [new] contract,” Jones told Jori Epstein of Yahoo. “But he’s got a contract. That’s the point. Be sure and clear about that.”
In other words "a contract is a contract"...until we don't like our side of the contract. Then it's non-binding.

It's amazing how many lemmings admire this carnival barker and others like him. It's my sincere prayer that everyone who praises Jerry's "business acumen" has to work for and experience his BS...much like Emmitt and Michael did...2 of his "favorites". Double-standard, double-dealing narcissist.

Every time this idiot opens his mouth...
and people still defend him. three decades and counting. One constant...

Does this incompetent fool understand how much he is handicapping this team by waiting and paying these guys more than any other team would? Between Dak and Micah alone his horrible negotiating skills basically cost us a starting player against the cap. About $6M to Dak and who knows how much to Micah. He is literally the worst negotiator in the history of the league yet he fancies himself an expert in the area

Like Dak said.

"i dont listen to Jerry in the media anymore"

He already had his contract in place and was waiting for the "announcement".

Keep em entertained! That is Jerrys motto.

In other breaking news, water is still wet and the run continues to rise in the east.

The only real news is when it actually happens. Last I checked it's May not September so there is no reason to expect anything to happen anytime soon.
EXACTLY LOL forget the continued cowboys circus of contract's, he'll be signed he'll get his money. Jerry just has a freaky way of doing things to make it look otherwise

:muttley:

Jerry Jones could have easily said the same thing before Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb signed contracts. There is debate Micah Parsons will not get a new contract with Dallas, but the likelihood is high that he will.

The timing of a signing would differentiate Parsons' contract situation from those two particular teammates. The two parties should stop stringing out the negotiation and arrive at a mutual agreement sooner than later IF Parsons 'got a contract' already.

Finalize business. Stop the weekly joint, soundbite/social media, back-and-forth ego-fest.
GM Jethro always blinks first.

It seems like every time GM Jethro says something dumb like this, it is an indicator that he is losing the contract battle. He wants people to think he has some kind of leverage, right before he caves and makes Micah the highest non QB in the league.

Exactly. Every other GM in the league would say "we don't comment on ongoing contract negotiations". There is no leverage or sympathy to be gained

This is familiar for Cowboys fans. Dragging out negotiations to only end up paying top dollar. It works out great for the player getting paid. They or their representive love doing business with Jerry this way.
