Saquon Barkley hints he could retire as soon as next year to go out like Barry Sanders

barkley simply does not have the stats or skins (All Pro, etc) to get into the HOF

I was ambivalent about Terrel Davis getting in myself

Gale Sayers stats were not what mattered

You look at game film of him and he was incredible in the open field
I have never seen a better one ever
there were times when it looked like everyone else but him were in slo mo

Certainly by the numbers he should hot have gotten in; he never fully recovered from that knee injury

I remember the debate about Davis getting in was that he shined only for a short period/ If I remember correctly, the argument for him was partially based on Gale Sayers getting in when his greatness was also brief.

Barkley has only had one really outstanding season; that should not get you in the HOF
and since it was in 16 games getting just over 2000 yds is really not all that great.
You don’t think Saquon was, “really that great” last season. You sure about that?

I think he just afraid to go against the daunting interior defense that the Cowboys have, lol

It would be very smart for him to retire as soon as possible to protect what is left of his health.

I hope the Madden cover jinx happens I just do guys already big and puffy and with a big giant head saying oh I'm going to do like Berry Sanders retire early you know what I think he just sealed the curse.lol.

If Barkley retires next year is he a HOFer? He already has Terrell Davis like rushing stats in his career but is needing one more SB to truly equal Davis level.
I think so, yes.

Not a top 10 RB in NFL History but yes he's a legit HOF back imho.

Yep. Look at history dude. That was barely top 10 all time in a lot of ways
13 TDs is good but not great
5.8 YPC is way up there I agree
2005 yds in 16 games equals 125 yds a game which is up there but has been beaten a fair number of times.
And one great season does not earn anyone a yellow jacket

OK but in ur last thread u said his 2024 "was not all that great"

Then in this thread you said he had "one GREAT season" (2024), and said as seasons go it was a Top 10 All Time season (barely, per you, but still Top 10 all time). A top 10 All Time season (Even if the 9th or 10th best ever) by definition is a great great season, which you confirm by saying he has 1 GREAT season.

Just pointing that out, and thanks for correcting yourself.

Carry on.

Just depends on what he wants for himself.

He and Ricky Williams were the 2 most highly rated, hyped Running Backs in the past 30 years...maybe more...coming out of college.

Obviously Ricky didn't live up to the hype...saquon did, but just landed in the worst possible spot for a RB.

Easily Top 10 all time if you just look at talent (can you imagine if he hadn't wasted the first half of his career in NY, and played with a good team?), but Emmitt was Emmitt because he chose to play for 27 seasons, and just keep wanting to pile more and more yards to his resume even when his peak of being a very very good RB ended. Will Barkley choose to add a few thousand more yards to his resume even when he stops being special, like Emmitt did, just for the sake of stats and money? Who knows....but I doubt it. Nevertheless, we've all seen that all you need is a few probowls to make it into the HOF these days.

Sanders got sick of losing in Detroit. Barkley knows he’s about to hit the wall. Every 2000 yard rusher fell way off the following season. I expect the same with Barkley. He’s bound to suffer some injuries in 2025.
Most of these kids don’t really know the truth about Sanders. They just look at him as folk lore, and they say they want to go out like he did.
He said “my desire to leave the game, is greater than my desire to stay in it”.
He then went on to talk about the FO not moving in the same direction he would go, and that every time he would start gelling with certain guys, they would be gone.
We can only hope this happens to the Eagles.

Eagles are loaded . I hope he retires asap. Only thing that can derail him and Philly from being good for a long time is him retiring or getting injured. That's it. We aren't going to be a viable threat for a couple years probably.

I didn’t say he deserved to be in the hall of fame but he put up the most yards in the history of the NFL including post season. He put up the most run of 60+ yards ever. It was easily the best season by a RB in the last 10 years and wasn’t even record chasing sitting out 4th quarters to “Let the young boys eat” and sitting out week 17 instead of getting the all time rushing record. He also stepped up his game in the playoffs. I think you aren’t being honest.
I found a new respect for him in the playoff game he slashed through the right side for an easy 80 yards ever score and slid down after 10-15 yards literally saying “I don’t care about number I care about my team winning”

The challenge for teams like the Chiefs and Eagles is sustaining competing for the Super Bowl. The Cowboys are still working on getting to that level. The same front office that moved on from Sanders and then Swift to sign Barkley is still intact. They’ll replace him with another running back when he retires.

It will take more than Barkley getting injured or retiring to derail the Eagles. It is wishful thinking.
