Much less achieving a 14 win regular season, although I'd love to see it. Not a hater here, just a realist.

What's funny is I think the cowboys have a good shot as anyone as making the playoffs (no one knows the actual future), but I do not feel confident about them making a run in the playoffs. Kind of the same old same old...

As the previous posted mentioned, not a hater here, just a realist.

Here is the thing though, if the cowboys wins, this board can be insufferable with everyone walking around like a proud peacock, and ironic enough if they lose this board can be insufferable with every thinking everyone sucks and everyone should be fired. Guess it's the same way on all the football team forums though...

Heading into the 2014 season everyone thought the Cowboys would be terrible, but they ended up having a great season and winning a playoff game. Every season there’s going to be teams that will be better or worse than everyone thought. We’ll get a good idea in the opener against Philly what kind of team the Cowboys are going to have this season. That game will be a great barometer. One big reason we surprised everyone in 2014 was our running game with DeMarco Murray. It enabled Romo to manage games and not have to carry the load. Our running game has got to pick it up this season and our defense is going to have to play much better.

The Cowboys confirmed that they have enforced the de-escalator clause in Trevon Diggs' contract, lowering the cornerback's base salary from $9 million to $8.5 million, because he didn't rehab enough at the team facility.

“The de-escalation is contractually spelled out," Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Monday. "When he decided to train in South Florida, he understood what the consequences would be.”

Dallas places base-salary de-escalator clauses in its large contracts, all but guaranteeing participation in the offseason program. The team had the option of not enforcing the clause, and Diggs is believed to be the first Cowboys’ player to see his base salary lowered because of it.

His contract stipulates he participate in 84.375 percent of the offseason program at the team facility.

Don't look now, but Dallas Cowboys fans are feeling a little bit confident about the 2025 NFL season. Obviously this tends to happen to most franchises in the offseason, especially teams that won big last season, or teams who are getting big-time players returning from injury, or who made big moves in the offseason to build the roster.

The Cowboys fall into some of that with their offseason moves. But they also hired a first-time head coach who has been passed over many times before. A move like that tends to depress optimism in the fanbase, but Brian Schottenheimer has had a very good offseason in terms of roster building, and getting buy-in from his players on a new culture.

No matter what the cowboys do in the off season leading into the season itself, the one variable that you never know when it's going to come into play is "what will Jerry do?"

That is a cop out. His staff runs the choices and all needed are on the team and top monies still have to be earned.

I think optimism is always going to be there at the beginning of a new season. It's basically a reset.
But too many people are having wishful thinking which is different.
People forget
No coaching search and hired guy that has been here. I don't believe he can change the culture Jerry has created.
Same old regressing QB
No running game
No DTs
Jag LBs
And division is much stronger than past years.

There is a difference when fairness goes out a window along with a 30 year calendar. I'm still watching the product.

There is a difference between watching a product and expecting a SB playoff run and watching a product and know they aren't good enough to win a playoff game.
 
Coach Schotty knows what it will take for his players to get on the right track and his expectations can be summed up in just two words: "Very physical."

Caught the end of this, but an example? Even without pads on, Sam Williams welcomed Tyler Neville to the NFL by planting him. Nice run from Deuce with the 2s.




Defensive end is going to be one of the most exciting battles to watch throughout Dallas Cowboys training camp. One of the biggest reasons why is Sam Williams, who is somewhat of an X-factor ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

During limited playing time early in his career, Williams displayed dominant play. However, off-the-field trouble and most recently, a season-ending injury in 2024, has kept him from making that next leap.

Now, it's unclear where he stands in the Cowboys' depth chart. He's a candidate to start while also being far from a roster lock and he'll have to fight for his spot on the team. To do that, staying on the field will be ideal. That didn't happen on the first practice of camp.

According to ESPN's Todd Archer , "it appeared Brian Schottenheimer removed Sam Williams from team drills after he hit RB Phil Mafah hard and blew up TE Tyler Neville on a block in back to back plays."
