We say we have to run the ball but we have to have a scheme and a mindset to run. We abandon the run because every run doesn't get us 20 yards

Sure, but how much? By what standards? We were near the bottom last season.......improvement to the high 20s ranking isn't going to be enough. I'm just not seeing enough talent for us to leap from the bottom to the top 15. We signed two scrub vets and drafted a day-3 guy who couldn't win a college starting job. In other words, our RBs scare no one.....pretty much the same as last season. Rico was decent enough to gain 1000 yards but he and Zeke didn't get DCs up game planning like the Eagles and Lions running attack.

Dak's rookie season had Zeke, the best RB in the draft........but I agree with what you are saying that a stronger running game is Dak's best friend.

Honestly, your response here surprises me a bit. We shared several predraft posts highlighting the importance of the Cowboys drafting one of the 3-5 RBs with a day 1 or 2 pick. Sure, backs are easy to find. For example, Mahomes is such a threat that the Chiefs can get by with a 7th-round RB, but how far do you think Dak or Hurts' offenses will go? In other words, teams will gladly force Dak to beat them w/o an elite running game.

Beebe Smith and Booker are going to be maulers Guyton and Steele will get up to par with some time .I have been watching some training camp and Miles Sanders looks fast,so does Deuce Vaughn and Jaydon Blue. Hunter Luepke also looks like he is ready to make some plays.Cee Dee and Pickens will really help the running game as well. I look for Dallas to be good enough in the run game to be competitive this season, along with a very good receiving chore.

To add to your stat the top 5 NFC rushing teams last year were: Philly, Wash, TB, GB, Detroit
That's division winners and 2 wild card teams and both of the NFC Championship teams.

Exactly. A good line will make lesser backs productive. Maybe we don't have what we need in the backfield. I will allow that needs to be proven. But getting the line in place was more important.

You'll get no argument from me. But what did Dallas do to be a successful running the ball? If Blue isn't it, then what? We're screwed. Maybe we'll draft a top end RB next year, but at the same time they'll let Pickens walk. The Cowboys don't build on the previous season. Each season is stand alone.

James Connor was never considered an elite back, but he was very successful running the football under Adams in Arizona. Let's see what the veterans can do first, before we think they have to go get a running back.

You don't need elite, but you need pretty good. We don't have that unless we get super lucky with the rookies.

The only thing not showing up in camp so far, is attitudes on site.

Same Miles Sanders was a 1,200 yard back with the Eagles strong OL.

He was more of a situational back that never cracked 1K yards with the Steelers. Both Williams/Sanders have similar numbers in their previous spots. Sanders did rush for almost 1,300 yards with the Eagles, for some reason he was buried in the depth chart in Carolina.
