Fans should know CBA rules for contract negotiations

One other thought. If the team decides tagging Parsons gives them leverage, it’s fools gold.

Elite NFL players getting tagged damages the relationship between the player and the team because it makes the player feel like they are just a product. Everyone thinks NFL players are greedy and only about the money. But it’s also about feeling respected and appreciated for their talents.

Tagging Parsons will be a huge mistake. If they won’t pay him market value, trade him. I think JJ knows he’s botched this and is clumsily trying to save face. It’s isn’t working.
You tag until you can either get adequate value in trade, or extend.

Its not fools gold, its a contingency plan.

Agreed though, it's not a healthy option. Its more so the nuclear option when all else fails.

The large reason for the notoriety is Jerry Jones marketing acumen. To deny that is to deny reality. Is he a good GM? No. Not many teams have a good GM.

But I’d still rather have a team that’s marquee good or bad than one that wins one Suoer Bowl of even two then disappears from the national scene for 30 years.

It’s all bread and circuses. Enjoy it. Like Duane Thomas once said “if it’s the ultimate game, why aren’t they playing it again next year?”

You know Choc, here’s how I see it. This is like an argument between family members who in the end need each other.

So “winning” an argument can also mean you lose a relationship. In this scenario Jerry has the money and power to get his way most of the time. But getting what you want using power is a bad way to gain respect in a relationship. If you have to use raw power to win, in essence you lose.
Yeah, but this isn't personal to Jerry. It certainly isn't family. It's just business.

I agree that Micah is a different cat and might get his feelings hurt where Dak and CeeDee didn't, but that doesn't mean Jerry is going to, or should, pay millions of dollars more than he has to just because Micah is that way.

And again, none of what I'm saying means I'm some Jerry fan. I can't stand him either. But I do try to be as fair as possible, and I know agents can be unreasonable also. This isn't some corny old western with a definite hero and a definite villain. Both parties can be at fault, and I personally doubt Mulugheta is the angel some are making him out to be.

So all the other teams that have NEVER won a Super Bowl (there are 22 of them) are they also a “joke to everyone”? Why aren’t they all screaming about the GM?
Because all the other teams that have never won a Super Bowl have had more than one GM…they don’t feel stuck with the same bad front office for decades. And I’d bet that every single one of those teams’ fan bases have indeed screamed about their different GMs over the years. Why would anyone think otherwise?

All true, but let's not act as if today's agents and players are not trying to get overpaid and receive ludicrous record deals that further enrich them while killing team's salary caps. Since Badell won't do anything about this ever increasing abuse by agents and their players, I don't blame owners for trying to secure deals with the players alone without any greedy representation. Something has to give because new contract demands by agents and players is way out of hand. We all know it, so no use trying to cover up for the players.

Nailed it. :hammer:

The NFL and the Clubs recognize that, pursuant to federal labor law, the NFLPA will regulate the conduct of agents who represent players in individual contract negotiations with Clubs. On or after the date on which the NFLPA notifies the NFL that an agent regulation system is in effect and provides the NFL with a list of the NFLPA-certified agents, Clubs are prohibited from engaging in individual contract negotiations with any agent who is not listed by the NFLPA as being duly certified by the NFLPA in accordance with its role as exclusive bargaining agent for NFL players. The NFLPA shall provide and publish a list of agents who are currently certified in accordance with its agent regulation system, and shall notify the NFL and the Clubs of any deletions or additions to the list pursuant to its procedures...

There is more to it than the I pasted. The link lists enforcement and penalties. In order to represent yourself you have to file to do so. Micah has not so therefore he is not listed as a certified agent by the NFLPA.
  • L Player Contract(s) by an agent or representative duly certified by the NFLPA in accordance with the NFLPA agent regulation system and authorized to represent him; or (b) acts on his own behalf in negotiating such NFL Player Contract(s).
There’s always more to the story

Oh THAT makes sense. You make that up all by yourself?
Cute, dude. Sorry that simple concepts escape you. Guess I'll have to speak in simpler terms.

Just because someone else isn't successful, that does not make you successful.

That help?

I think this angle is overblown. Multiple things can be true. Jerry can be a numbskull in the way he handles these negotiations, but it isn't that big a deal to for the GM to talk directly with the player and shake hands on the fundamental numbers which the player has already discussed with the agent, before turning it all over to the agent and Stephen to hammer out the details. That handshake is not a legally binding agreement, and Jerry has stated that the handshake deal is not intended to be the end all be all but just to get on the same page. I don't believe Jerry is trying to go around the agent. He knows that is not possible. It seems to me it would be very easy for a player and agent to work with this unconventional method and get exactly what they want while giving Jerry the moment he craves. The deal gets done and everybody wins.

In other words, both Jerry and Team Parsons are knuckleheads for not getting this done.

Doesn't it seem at least a little strange as to why this has become a problem only now? Jerry didn't just start being Jerry. Most certainly he has approached at least all the big deals the same way. Why hasn't this been an issue in the past?

Its not on the players to manage salary cap. They have every right to get us much money as possible. Its on the gm. Dak didn’t and rightfully so. Our management team is a clown show

Then stop complaining against Jerry when he now is trying to save money and not overpay.

Even if the player is under contract?
The owners negotiated a new collective bargaining agreement with the NFLPA because they wanted more money, while they were still under contract by the previous one. Negotiating while under contract and before the current one happens all the time in all aspects of labour "disputes". Jerry knows this. The other owners know this. The NFLPA knows this. Yet the fans still fall for it.

All this talk that Jerry spits out about Micah being under contract is complete garbage. Jerry saying they had a deal in place in March is such BS and I for one am glad Micah is standing up to this clown and telling him to shove it up his a**.

Many fans saw the appearance of Jerry Jones on Michael Irvin’s podcast today. Saying he had “an offer on the table for Micah Parsons” with sizeable numbers.

JJ saying all that is a total waste of time and a complete misrepresentation of how NFL contract negotiations are to be conducted according to the NFL’s current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)

For example, if an NFL player has an NFLPA-certified agent, (which Parson’s agent David Mulugheta certainly is) then all negotiations must go through that agent. Period. Teams are forbidden from contacting or negotiating with players who are represented by an agent without the agent's presence.

Jerry knows this! Clubs can face penalties for violating this rule, including the cancellation of any contract offer or signed contract made outside of these rules. This rule protects players by ensuring they are represented by their agent during negotiations, helping to prevent situations where a team might pressure a player into a less favorable deal without their agent present. (Imagine that)

So if we hear Jerry or Stephen say that “we had an agreement last March”, it is a completely invalid argument. Apparently meant to win in the court of public opinion in hopes that many Cowboys fans should buy that. Don’t buy it. It’s invalid.
Of course! Jerry trying to negotiate with Micah directly, bypassing his agent, is unethical.

Now Jerry is claiming he made an offer to Micah's agent and his agent did not respond. I don't believe that for 1 minute. Jerry is losing the public relations battle and he knows it. But he is stubbornly sticking to his [plan no matter how much it hurts the Cowboys or Micah. At this point I would not blame Micah for not wanted to stay in Dallas. Jerry is damaging any relationship with Micah by not operating in good faith.

That is part of the negotiation process. Not unethical. No matter the final contract, it has to be signed by the player.

The agent has to be involved prior to SIGNING.

You don't have a knowledge of elements going into a contract. No matter what, it has to be signed by the player. The meeting of minds is with the player and then signed by him. How he so chooses.

Broaddus is, to a degree, trying to defend Jerry posing the idea that Micah wanted to "swim with the sharks" by going toe-to-toe with Jerry in negotiations. And that because he did that he opened a can of worms so now Broaddus says he understands why Jerry is angry that Micah isn't honoring the handshake deal and wanting to bring his agent into it.
