Average nfl career is 3.2 years

Once you get to 4th round or later it’s just over two years.
 
Now go look at the other 31 teams from that draft and compare....its probably a very similar or worse picture.

The Cowboys have two starters from that class plus a guy in Gholston who has been decent but walked for a comp pick. Thats about all you can ask for out of any draft class.

Philly has DeVonte Smith, Landon Dickerson, plus a good pick that just walked in Milton Williams. Similar draft to the Cowboys. Very few teams will have had stronger 2021 drafts than the Cowboys at this point. Reality is the draft is a very low probability event with most players not making it to a 2nd contract.

Yes there is a lot more to that story. Also on Jerry, but to sit here and act like its not plausible at all and we are all nuts for thinking there has been an issue is mind boggling to me.

Yes, Jerry made a lot of enemies. Im sure that hasn't helped us, but I also don't blame him. Not for that at least.

Think you’re looking for answers in the wrong places.

The problem revealed itself early in the Netflix special when Jerry pointed at Tex Schramm and said, “I want his job!”

The problem isn’t the NFL having an axe to grind Mr. Jones, global warming, or even freakin’ Rowdy, the issue is mismanagement by a megalomaniac who sees zero value in doing things other than HIS way.

Look at the two games he started against the eagles, it’s no wonder the eagles have a very high opinion of him. That second game he went 39/52 for 397 yards, 4TDs and 1int. So being a late round rookie and getting replaced by him doesn’t say as much about him as what it says what they think about Howell.

I think it’s more just looking for a backup with significant starting experience. Like the Raiders, the Eagles’ backup is injured, both teams went out and acquired quarterbacks that have started more than a few games if the worst happens and their starter goes out with an injury.

Cowboys, with a 32 year old QB1 that has a history of injury in recent years, should do the same. They won’t.

He's still raw after being converted from WR at Alabama. Some guys just don't take.

He’s a good QB who’s the beneficiary of great talent around him.

Hurts is to NFL quarterbacks what Joe Frazier was to pro boxers. Not the best in his era, but he can beat you, badly.
 
Love flournoy but I'll believe it when I see it. Cutting Brooks might come back to haunt us.
 
Effective NFL offenses evolve. This league became a mostly pass oriented league the last 25 years. Pass heavy offenses featuring high percentage passes that make the QB, WR, and TE positions much more valuable had become the coin of the realm over the last 2-3 decades.

But things have changed. Defenses have evolved too over the years to where pass coverage has become easier to master. Good defenses evolved to where great pass rushes and pass coverage became gold. BUT….Things have evolved again.

So how do you challenge a defense today?
  • By having a running game capable of punishing defenses that cheat their safeties back to stop the intermediate pass and deep pass.
  • If an offense does not have a RB who forces safeties (and maybe LBs as well) to respect the run, it puts all the pressure on the QB to carry the offense. There may be 2 QBs in the NFL that can carry a team by himself.
  • By possessing a below average running game, the Cowboys are set up to depend too much on a 32 year old good but not great QB who has always played best with a strong running game.
It’s not a mystery. In 2025, having a quality running game capable of making defenses fear what it can do gives your QB and offense a chance to be good.

Without wearing blue fan glasses, I’m not seeing a running back on this roster that makes defensive coordinators respect the run. Until we do get someone that can put fear in a defense, I cannot expect deep playoff runs. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong. Hope so.
 
It is just darn depressing that they followed up last year with this group. I have not seen Williams so we are hoping for a miracle.

I was fine letting Dowdle go. He was fine. But had not impact in wins. They probably had a bottom 5 running back room last year. Should have been so easy to upgrade. But here we are.

It's only going to benefit us in the long run, my thing has always been is if we're not getting substantial yards, we totally abandon it!! Every run can't be 20+ yards sheesh

Doing things cheaply and getting low talent may end up hurting us severely. Hopefully these guys have a chip on their shoulders
