I mean he plays DE the majority of the time so that's probably what he should be listed as. The NFL really needs to update this, and I doubt the NFLPA would argue to do so. It really should be LB (Off ball), Edge rushers (4-3DE & 3-4OLB), and DI (DTs/3-4DEs). Really no reason to not treat Parsons, Watt, and Garrett all the same. Even though they line up differently on occasion they all play the same role for their teams.

Well he's not a linebacker as the article states his sakarybus based on which position he lines up at. I can't even remember Micah playing traditional linebacker role, always wondered how good he would be at that position. Fact is he played edged rusher and only looks for sacks.

The linebacker position also includes LB’s who rush from the edge. Not just traditional off ball LB’s. They actually make less than edge rushers.

It’s a complicated aspect of the way they calculate 5th year salaries because it doesn’t really account for tweeners like Micah.

Look around the league it is the same if not worse. Cowboys have been all and all a good drafting team, but they have had their misses.

[Blast From The Past]

Three straight drafts the Cowboys have fail to spend quality draft capital on a RB. And after each of those drafts the members in here have been shall we say, upset.

Also consider the play caller we have had. The Cowboys haven't had a serious dedication to establishing a running game like we saw back in the heyday in a long time. It's pass, pass pass all game long.

But when you have over the hill gang oline coaches who doesn't develop or put guys in position to succeed especially in run blocking then you have a weak running game. I hope the 2 guys he brought in helps in that regard and the running game will be ok this season. The running game is powered thru the oline and them dominating their guys or correctly accomplishing their assignments on a any given play. Only great backs like Henry could probably could eat up yards behind a bad line. We do not have any backs of that caliber on our roster as of yet. So if this line does it's job I feel good about our running game. If not and our backs are getting stopped as soon as they get the ball or behind the los that is a blocking issue not a back issue. They gotta have good blocking to get it going.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, a grievance was filed earlier this year regarding Parsons’s fifth-year option salary. The Cowboys and the NFL have his salary at $21.324 million. Parsons believes his salary should be $24 million.

The issue arises from the position Parsons plays. The Cowboys have listed him as a defensive end; that leads to the $21.324 million salary. Parsons believes he is a linebacker, which points to the higher amount.

We had (have?) a stretch of maddening run calls. Like you said if we only got a couple yards, we'de throw 50 times a game. Or...three straight runs up the stuffed middle at the goal line and wonder what we had to FG it.

Parsons is obviously the best defender on the Cowboys and makes a case for being the best defender in the NFL.

On the other hand there are many superior level defenders in the NFL. How many NFL defensive players would you consider to be in the same tier level as Parsons. It is not limited to Parsons’ position. The other players can play any position as long as it’s on defense.

Now think about this: Is Parsons likely to perform better than a majority of that group over the next 5 years and how many new players will arrive that will escalate to Parsons’ tier and how many of those player will Parsons likely out perform?

When you look at this situation though this lens from my point of view the probability that paying Parsons to be the top defender in the league doesn’t look like a winning cap strategy.
