The Dallas Cowboys have been on a hunt to find a slot cornerback all summer long, and they’ve finally made a decision. After more than a month of practices and three preseason games, the Cowboys have decided to keep Zion Childress on the roster as their top slot cornerback.

Childress has been competing with several other options on the roster, including Kemon Hall and Israel Mukuamu, for that job, but it was the undrafted free agent from Kentucky who ultimately made the roster, while the other two were released. Childress started running with the first-team defense back in August and never looked back. And now, he is the favorite to start in the slot going into Week 1.

I suppose this was the biggest surprise for me as far as the final roster. Go Cowboys!

It helps understand Jerry some. It’s a lot of things going on with Jerry. The doc does a good job of showing why he is the way he is.

Right...but the thing is...these teams all went out in the divisional round. They didn't even get CLOSE to the real thing. It can therefore be argued that decisions Jones made with personnel (like choosing Prescott over Romo for the 2016 playoff season) and coaches has in fact affected the final product. 2023 left Prescott without weapons in the end. Gallup was never again what he was pre-injury...and they paid him before they could find out. The trade of Amari Cooper was one of THE dumbest things that the Jones clan ever did. Owens, Bryant. Each time these top guys were run off, the WR corps took a big step back the following year. They took too long to rebuild the o-line under Romo. It bit them on the azz at Minnesota in '09...and it also shortened Romo's career.

They were gonna cut Amari so they got something for him.

People are weird. If the Cowboys cut Amari probably not a peep. He gets a pick for a guy he was gonna cut and it’s the worst trade….that same Amari has been on 4 teams in 4 years….

So you are saying that Jerry makes the call on who they keep and who they cut? I thought that's what coaches do.

Broaddas kind of beat around the bush, but he was pretty obviously saying that the only reason Mazi is still on the roster is because Jerry said so, that the coaches wanted to move on.

Dak isn't the problem, Schottenheimer, Micah, none of it. Nothing is going to matter as long as the old fool and his family run the show.

If he gets hurt playing football, though crap! He choose that profession. I would say he should have tried to be a doctor or lawyer or candle stick maker but he is to damn stupid to do such work.

He’s using his physical talents and abilities to get paid as much as possible before his body gives out our he suffers a career ending injury. I’ve got no problem with someone playing to their strengths and wanting to be set financially when it’s all over. Father Time eventually gets paid in full.

I may have missed someone. Are we better at these positions than last year? On a defense ranked 31st last year in overall defense? It does not appear to be better.

That’s how a pessimist would look at it. For me, DLaw was overrated, Overshown and Liufau are both on the roster and Sanborn vs Kendricks is a wash. Loved Lewis and he certainly has the edge over Childress at least on paper. The 3 levels of a defense all work together and one group, ie a strong pass rush, can make another groups job much easier.

I want to bring something to the table here.

When Jerry went toe to toe with the NFL regarding branding, sponsorships etc. Does anyone believe that the fallout from that is what we have witnessed for the last 30 years?

They havent won since, they have had obscure and mind boggling penalties called against them at the most inopportune times, and just cant seem to put it all together.

Yes there is a lot more to that story. Also on Jerry, but to sit here and act like its not plausible at all and we are all nuts for thinking there has been an issue is mind boggling to me.

Thoughts?

I don't plan on watching it and I was hoping to see people boycotting it.

If he hires a GM as he has stated he will, he will have experts helping him. Completely different scenario than Jerry as GM.

'If' is the keyword. I might give some benefit of the doubt to Eugenia and Charlotte for what they say they might do in the but none for Moe, Larry and Curly Jerry, Steven and Junior.

It appears that these coaches really looked at the game film of these players from the pre season and they did what they were supposed to do. In recent years it felt like they just kept guys just to keep them, even though there was a player at that position that out played a player who has made this team before.

The nepotism aspect seems to be gone, good example would be cutting Izzy! He's been on this team for several years now, but he was outshined by younger guys, it is what it is, I love it going forward. Please give your thoughts! Good job to the coaches/scouts etc!

.....if we celebrate the roster because of those 4. then we have much bigger issues than I anticipated.
