I’m not sure but top money then and now is drastically different. The league revenue has soared. As long as revenue keeps growing, what a record contract will keep changing. For now that is sustainable. But the day they top out revenue, you’ve maxed out every source from stream, TV and all other sources, then complete havoc will happen. For now growth is set for years but at some point that revenue is gonna max out. Broadcasters, be they streaming or tv don’t really make money off football. It’s just an audience drawer for them. There’s not enough ad space to sell to cover the cost. The revenue growth won’t last forever

Consider this: Last year we kept Trey Lance on the roster, paying him $5.3 million, and he played in ONE regular season game. Derrick Henry cost about $6 mil last year. And SJ said we couldn’t afford him.

One statement shows a lot of ineptness doesn't it. Trey should have played. Ridiculous not to give him reps. Feels like they thought it would limit his market & they could re-sign him cheap. Derrick had nothing to do with money. They thought he was washed because they have no player evaluation skills. But let's be honest, his skills wouldn't have been as effective here. He needs a little runway and we couldn't do that til mid year.

Darnold had a similar supporting cast to what Dak has had the majority of his career and produced almost identical type results yet the former gets labelled as "average" for having been drafted by one of the worst teams in the league and Dak is regarded as "good" despite his post season performances year after year...yeah good one.

Daniels is above Dak as well. He took an average team to the NFC Championship game in his rookie season and he was the main reason not just a clingon beneficiary of others playing well.

I mean being young may not work for the Cowboys but I mean look at the younger teams. You will see a trend of them being good teams. Good teams draft well and replace them when necesssey. Not saying that’s the Cowboys but that’s what the good teams typically do.

Being young is better than being old. But the actual talent level matters far more.

You could be the youngest team in the league by just signing all UDFA’s if you wanted to.

Agree. There's an argument thaf Hurts has made it a Big five. He has played lights out in two Superbowls. People can argue about the regular season but he plays the game situation in those games. The Eagles win a ton of games so he doesn't need to take unnecessary risks and play like Brett Favre. He manages a lot of games and he has stepped up and come up big when needed in two Superbowls.

I keep saying the same thing. We all think the Cowboys are stupid sometimes, but trading Parsons at this time of the year would really be stupid. A player of his stature should only be traded in the off-season when his value is greatest. You want all teams to have a chance to fit him under their CAPs. You want all teams to think this is a huge get prior to the draft, not a luxury after they have already addressed needs in the draft. You want to know where actual draft picks fall in every round to truly access value properly.

Either sign Parsons to an extension or make him play on his current contract vs sitting out, losing money, and still being tied to the Cowboys next year. If he sat out the year and lost out on 24 million or whatever it is, we would still own his 5th year option. If he only plays half the year and gets credit for the season, he loses over 10 million, and we can still franchise him and control his rights next year. If he doesn't want to sign this year or next spring, then you trade him prior to the draft when there are more teams bidding on his services and when we know where the draft picks land and what we want to do with them.

Personally, I'd make him play on his current contract. Next spring, I would sign him for all the draft picks and players I can get. Then I would deal some of those high picks for more picks, like trade a #1 or the next year's #1 and #3. By the time Dak has finished his third year of the current contract, approaching the 2027 draft, I would package picks to get up to the top and draft our next franchise QB. While there are no guarantees in the draft, a super blue chip QB prospect is always of more value than an elite pass rushing DE who doesn't play the run very well.

Correct. But no one does that. The good organizations keep young talent. I mean the Eagles just won the SB and they are the second youngest team. If you have young talent that’s still playing for a big contract you have an edge on teams with older talent who have already been paid.

Yes. If it’s a team Micah would rather not play for his agent would tell that team he’s not going to sign with you. Based on current circumstances the interested team would believe him. And the interest would be gone.
