Cowboys talked to the Panthers about trading for Micah

As a team trading for Micah, it only made sense if you had a young QB and thought you were a player away. No team like the panthers would trade for him because of contract will be crippling. So when people complain it's going to be a late first rounder, that's all they were going to get.
Same response here too. In August, rosters were set and all free agent money had been handed out. In March or before, more than a few teams would have been all over this.

Money isn’t an issue though in regards to getting Micah. If you want Micah you can clear the cap space to get him. It’s the 2 1st round picks that are the risk. Packers were willing to take it.

The other thing to consider, is other teams may not have wanted to offer what GB offered, maybe around what Dallas offered, or less. So Micah could have said no.
Regardless of how many picks were involved.

Yes Dallas could have traded him anyway, but no team would trade without an agreed contract.

Even though they are all over the place with their supposed plan, and did virtually nothing to address an ongoing problem (stopping the run, and they did not anticipate trading Parsons), I just suddenly have much more confidence as a fan when the narrative (for this month at least) is about run stoppage to be important. It’s in their brains somewhere. That helps.
Yep. I just don’t get why now. They went all offseason…unless the plan was always to trade Micah to obtain that which takes some type of foreshadowing I don’t think they do.

Yeah I don’t think he goes to Carolina……that’s probably lost in all of this. Chiefs, Eagles, Packers….probably few more.

Maybe we can put to bed some of the "we coulda gotten way more" talk.

I understand the argument for more pre-draft but that isn't the reality. The trade took place a week before the season, that's the lens it has to be viewed in.

Yeah I think they wanted to help this years team. So they wanted the DT.
Thats the problem.

There is no logical reason to help this team this year. This team isnt doing anything.

Honestly Derrick Brown and a first, a second and a second the next year sounds better than 2 late round firsts and Clark.

But thats just me.

Everyone knew that was the going price for Micah. But if you're shopping him early, teams can plan by cutting contracts they were on the fence about or reorganized their free agent planning. Doing this last minute limited things to teams who kept their situation flexible. Had a team Ben willing to part with two firsts and a second pre-draft, would we take that versus the firsts and Clark? I don't think it's close what you'd do there but just like with travel, last minute shopping costs you more.

Just heard Fowler on 1053 the fan say they talked to the Panthers about a Micah trade but they didn’t want to part with Derrick Brown…..they aimed high but teams weren’t budging because they didn’t want to spend 47 million and trade compensation….

But hypothetically….do you feel better about a 1st rounder and Derrick Brown fit Micah? Or 2 1sts and Kenny Clark?
My question is ......when did Micah's contract value increase from $40/42M - $47M and what was the trigger? In short....the $47M had to come from some team initially agreeing to pay it and we know it wasn't Jerry. I do think it was part of the last attempt Parsons and his agent took to Jerry and made his option simpler.......play on the 5th or leave

Maybe Brown's contract scared Jerry

Well that was my biggest thing. Did they do their due diligence. And they were adamant on getting a DT so they know the importance of the position….or maybe they just found out lol. Either way I’m glad they at least know now lol.

And yeah I don’t believe the compensation was gonna be as high as people think. He said some teams like the Chiefs inquired but didn’t want to spend that money. It was a small list of teams.

And good point about Panthers. More than likely a top 10 pick. One top 10 pick vs 2 1st rounders that will be later? Tough.
Finally! A post where you put your emotions to the side! Yes, regardless...do you trust the process by which the Jones' came to this decision? And yes..."get your money Dak" is in that same vein. It's all a cluster and counterproductive. Now Dak has to live with "getting his money" and the Jones' backwards decision-making.

This is probably the last time we'll see this version of you before you start your REAL JOB defending you-know-who. ;)

I disagree. The Cowboys walked themselves into that position over the course of a year and some change. They don’t get props for cleaning up their own mess. Also I’d rather get two 1s from the Panthers than two 1s plus Clark from the Packers because I would anticipate those picks being ways higher.

So Micah could have said no.
I mean saying no to a trade would have meant one of two things. A) I'm going to shut up & play under my contract or B) We are going to sit you & still retain your rights & make your life difficult going forward.
Meanwhile other teams see how you are handling this and become apprehensive. Once you request a trade & one is worked out, no one is going to have any sympathy for trying to wiggle out of it.

I'm with you. It's unlikely that a team wouldn't trade everything unless they were close, but did anyone believe the Bears were close when they traded for Mack? Not me. A sucker is born everyday - see Jerry - and all we had to do was take the TIME to sus them out. But because of Jerry's hot temper ego - see firing Jimmy - we get what we get.

I don’t think a team is offering that much for picks that have already been determined…..or are you talking about trading for 2026 picks in March?

We have to keep in mind, this was a week before the season starts. Most, if not all teams' rosters are set. No way they can complete this kind of trade this late w/o being lucky enough to already have the cap space and capital or upsetting the roster. THIS is why I'm convinced Jerry def could have gotten better offers before the draft, whether last year or 2026.
