Cowboys talked to the Panthers about trading for Micah

I have always said that for a premiere player the Cowboys should be looking to get them signed early and if they can’t they should start looking for a trade while their value is highest. Their “waiting for more leaves to fall” strategy is nonsensical. Jerry Jones has literally stated multiple times he believes in waiting till the last minute. I also don’t agree with the notion that Parsons wouldn’t have signed after year three but we won’t know cause the Cowboys didn’t try to get a deal done then.

I think they had some hesitation about Parsons all along. Their comments about leadership, etc., makes me believe they were hoping to see a more well rounded, mature player by the time this offseason rolled around.
They do sign some players early. It seems to be players that you never hear any whispers about though.
Maybe I'm just jaded but I think Parson's agent would have wanted a big jump over going rates & guarantees to have done it last year. The days of viewing the "security" to the player as a trade off against lesser total dollars seems to be over. Which is crazy to me because it's an absolutely valid benefit to the player that any other business would factor into a decision.

But is Hendrickson the player to put the defense over the top, and be contenders.
He is still on the last year of his contract. He would still cost you over $40 million per year next year. He is also older. They can wait and draft a top DE on a rookie contract.

As much. as I would like Hendrickson here, giving a 1st is way too much.

Hendrickson would be way cheaper than Micah ( playing for $30M this season ), but with him, you are getting an elite pass rusher, top run defender, and the same age as Garrett and Watt. On top of this, he's the ultimate locker room leader. Find a rookie 1st round DE that can match what he brings. In him, you have a replacement for Parsons, sacks, pressures, upgraded run support and better leadership.....cheaper.

Just heard Fowler on 1053 the fan say they talked to the Panthers about a Micah trade but they didn’t want to part with Derrick Brown…..they aimed high but teams weren’t budging because they didn’t want to spend 47 million and trade compensation….


But hypothetically….do you feel better about a 1st rounder and Derrick Brown fit Micah? Or 2 1sts and Kenny Clark?

Try we got to do a hypothetical on something that would have never happened it could have never happened because they rejected it meaning that was it we got the best offer we could because the team had to turn around and give up all those assets and then pay a man a record breaking non quarterback money which turned out to be really quarterback money...

I don't think we wanted to send them to the Packers I don't think that was Jerrys intent and really there was no leverage for Parsons representations to make him go to the Packers that's the best deal they can seek and both sides probably the best deal they can get....

This is true but we have to remember the playoffs have better players, schemes and coaches. So maybe they don't have to use as many resources to min his impact. This is where he needs help.

But in 2026, he will want that $40 million plus. He agreed to that extra money for 2025. Next year, they will be back at the negation table. Do you want to go through this again with a different player.

As I said I would love to have him here. But a new contract would need to come with it. They cleared cap space, I don't think they want to destroy that.

That wa the most alarming thing I saw. And it rings true. You rarely see his impact in the post season.

I would've taken two firsts and a third from the Panthers over what we got. You don't get the player that way but you get high draft picks. But Jerry couldn't sell that to the common fan as easily.

Only a team like the Packers which was the only team that could offer that kind of compensation and turn around and make their fans understand they're paying a man $47 million to play edge rush and giving up one of their better players on defense in return with the first round picks.. Because they can sell it as he's the missing piece...

It's like the Cowboys going and getting Charles Haley and or Deon Sanders if that doesn't make sense if they were a one in 13 team...

Agreed. But would this FO have provided that help had they signed Parsons to another market setting contract.

It’s tough to say. There’s a weird mix of vets and young players….they got older with Clark so that seems to insinuate win now.

Not sure $40M+ but I would have no problem paying him in that range. Wouldn't have to go through it again. He signs a new deal before the trade is completed, similar to the Micah GB deal.
This way STILL would have THREE future 1st rounders, Kenny Clark and perhaps a better COMPLETE PLAYER.
