Hunter Luepke - 8 Snaps

"Overpaying"? Not in this case. Luepke is only making a few thousand dollars more than he was making on his original undrafted free agent contract this season. The Cowboys just basically extended it another two years.
"this season"

We just *guaranteed* 5mil to Luepke for the extension.

Almost twice what his 3 year rookie deal amounted to. Guaranteed. And he would have been ERFA next year.

$5 million over the next three seasons is next to nothing in today's NFL. Extending Luepke is no worse than re-signing C.J. Goodwin to play special teams every year for the past decade.

Someone in the game thread was saying Luepke was on the field quite a bit. I honestly didn’t even see him.

Did anyone watch and notice him do anything? Did he make a block?

He is a regular on ST but this is not surprising... want to go 3 WR as much as possible against the Eagles secondary, especially with Jalen Carter out.

Hunter has his role and is game by game type dude.

Disagree.. I watched the same game He was open every time literally open that is what your primary read is CD Lamb is the number one wide receiver and will always be the primary target if he's open they'll keep calling his name...

You can see it how you want I watched a lot of guys that just weren't getting open enough on a regular basis the man who gets open who is already your primary target the play calls will go his way until he's not open Prescott's first read is almost always your number one wide receiver why would you not go to a guy that in 2023 led the league in receptions and targets and had nearly 1800 yards and ten touchdowns That is what a healthy Prescott in a combo of Lamb can do and last night if he don't drop those four passes He probably has a hundred and eighty yards.

Literally 110 yards and you're criticizing the Cowboys for looking his way too often , and he was open on the drops. .

that's not how it works Michael Irvin got almost all the attention if Emmitt wasn't running the ball Troy would be looking to Michael Irvin almost every single time unless you have Jason Witten or Jay Novacek getting open more they were not open They put the clamps on our tight ends and George was not open enough...

Why would you force the ball elsewhere if your primary is open, he literally could have blown the game open without the drops the second half would have been a different story and we wouldn't be sitting here having this ridiculous conversation...
that is a flawed concept, also outdated.
Look at phil stats, and they spread the ball around much better and Brown their # 1 only had 1 target.

It’s quite a bit more than “a few thousand more”, but it’s not a massive number

It is more than double the guaranteed money of other running back we have. More than all of them combined I believe.

  • ROOKIE CONTRACT TERMS:
    • 3 yr(s) / $2,715,000
  • AVERAGE SALARY:
    • $905,000
  • SIGNING BONUS:
    • $20,000
  • GTD AT SIGN:
    • $200,000
  • TOTAL GTD:
    • $200,000

  • EXTENSION TERMS:
    • 2 yr(s) / $7,500,000
  • AVERAGE SALARY:
    • $3,750,000
  • SIGNING BONUS:
    • N/A
  • TOTAL GTD:
    • $5,000,000
I also believe $5 million guaranteed is the highest amount guaranteed for a fullback in the league.

Damn...only took a few posts for the expert GMs around here to come out. I don't know who made the call on signing a pretty good FB, but I'm glad they did. Flow if the game, dictates a FBs use, more often than not. I'd rather have one, on the sideline and ready to play, than be crying and calling people out for not signing one. Especially, when the money is available

It's not a thought concept and I'm not getting in this debate with you because if the guys open he's your primary read you throw him the ball he made some mistakes he dropped it or we wouldn't be having this conversation..

We probably win this game if he doesn't drop half of what he dropped but the big one over the middle late in the game one of the last series we have he doesn't drop that it sets us up great but he still was open That is not a flawed concept it only seems that way because we lost but we were supposed to lose the game anyway but the man's open the man makes $39.5 million because he can get open and he is going to be your primary read and it's not outdated..

I tried to spread the ball around both our tight ends dropped the ball don't you think Prescott would have thrown in the ball more had they been open and he didn't have to throw in the double coverage and he did anyway drop Dimes in there and guys dropped the football it seems worse than it is because people didn't do their job but at least Lamb had 7 catches for 110 yards which puts him in the top five out of all the hundred receivers that played in the first week..

That's what you paid him for you don't go to other people if he's open he probably would have had 10 catches for 150 yards and a touchdown and we wouldn't be having this conversation because most likely would have either won the game or even still lost

Will spread the damn ball around that people catch it and get open but what was everybody else doing not getting open and dropping footballs We played one of the best defenses in football and the best teams in football on the road and we were supposed to get blown out and everybody's crying over small things it's not outdated..

They didn't get to AJ Brown and Smith not by design they were clamped down they were playing a cover 3 or whatever it's called they were making sure nothing deep or intermediate was going to be on a regular basis open and they only got one big pass on us so it left everything underneath open so the Eagles had nothing else to do but try to spread it around short all underneath because that's what our defense dictates what our defense said you will not beat us like Dan Quinn's defense left everyone open in that debacle with Parsons in the Green Bay playoff blowout they didn't want to get blown out so they did this and it worked..

Game playing on both sides of the football actually worked but the execution didn't and now we're talking about this because you don't understand that the execution was Fraud not to design...

Having as part of the team is one thing. He belongs. Jack of all trades. But his salary at 3.75 per was stupid. 2 Mil max. It's Not gonna kill us, but just strange like so many things they do. .
Yeah no one was beating down the door to give him 3+ million.

Exactly what I said during the game. Dude has shown nothing, though he wasn't really given a chance but why sign him top 3 money for his position to barely play. You could just sign a super cheap FA FB for the same production. Jerry makes head scratching moves. The we go out and don't really play him. Heck he probably would have housed that run where sanders had a beautifully blocked play and he got hawked down by a 4.65 linebacker in Zack Baun. I rather go with Williams, Blue and have Lupeke there if needed at RB (if Williams goes down or we need pass blocking).
He plays on STs tho.

Plus, his name is Hunter.

I do wish they would actually use him. Dump offs in space or just use him as a hammer. He has hands and will wear a team down tackling him. I know he had a fumble but still not convinced he knew he was supposed to have that ball. Maybe an option for Dak and he was supposed to pull it out and pass or run with it. He kept pushing until he was in the endzone and got up and only looked for it when he noticed everyone else looking for it…

Obviously, any guy with a name like Hunter is going to be worth more.

A guy with a name like that is almost guaranteed to have that good old fashioned American work ethic.

I doubt the fumble is a major issue with Luepke. I think the issue is simply he’s a better blocker than ball carrier. His value is in his versatility to line up all over the field and be decent at everything.

The problem with feeding Luepke the ball even 5-10 times a game is you’re taking the ball out of the hands of better players. You have a better hard/physical runner in Williams and potentially Mafah. I think you’d also rather not waste those designed plays to get guys open in space on Luepke when you can use someone more explosive like Turpin.

Luepke played around 30% of snaps last year, I’d have to think that’s about the ceiling for Luepke unless we see a major injury situation pop up for this team.
