Micah abused our OL

They apparently award pressure if you are able to make any progress into the backfield though. Early in the game they said he had like 4 and he had not, in any way, affected the offenses ability to execute the play. (unless I missed a play)

I mean if it doesn't impact anything, how is it any different than a CB being in phase with the receiver but not actually affecting the delivery of the ball?

He plays hard (when he's on the field). Generally gets some push and can certainly get home or impact the play. Did he last night? Not so much.
I thought the accepted definition of pressure was making the QB either throw it early or move?

Did you watch the post game interview with Jerry? The host asked Jerry to confirm how the last few hours of negotiations with Micah and his agent went. Jerry confirmed that when Micah caught wind that they were working on a potential trade with the Packers, Micah reached-out to Jerry to try and work out a contract to remain with the team.

So that’s Jerry confirming Micah wanted to stay with the Cowboys.
And his actions leading up to that moment are excused because he panicked just before midnight? Come on, man. If the player is making a spectacle of himself on the sidelines during a game, after demanding a trade, after acting like a child throughout training camp, as an owner/GM, you have to make a move. Perhaps Micah had a change of heart, but his actions told a story of somebody that wanted to leave. Do you really disagree with this?

I see yet another has bought into the “Micah is a god” nonsense

In a way you're right, but that is where pressures get lumped into one stat but really its a combination of sacks, hits, hurries, and now we are seeing the analytics sites add more categories to break these up to tell a fuller story. A lot of pressures are not even due to the OL getting beat but the QB hanging onto the football for too long too.

The issue you run into is that there are two different ways to evaluate a player....one and this is what PFF does that drives a lot of people crazy is they measure everything independently of what happens with your 10 other teammates on the field. For example if Dak throws a strike for a TD pass to Ferg but Ferg drops the football PFF still scores that as a completed pass for Dak while Ferg gets the minus grade. Same thing here with Parsons where if he wins his individual matchup but the QB gets the ball out fast and away from Parsons where the QB doesn't notice or feel any pressure they will likely still grade that as a pressure. The logic being that he did everything in his power to generate a pressure there, but it was simply the play call that beat him and likely an issue in coverage. Its about not faulting a player for happenings outside of their control.

The other way to evaluate is completely dependent upon outcomes. This really is the ideology that you should throw out pressures all together. Did they get to the QB and get the sack? If not why do I care type of attitude. Maybe Dak throws a strike to the receiver that is dropped, but this way of evaluating scrutinizes why the WR dropped the ball. Was it catchable but wobbled? Timing off so the pass came out too early/late?

No wrong answer there. Personally I like more of the grading independent upon the rest of the play as that typically projects long term success/failure with more accuracy, but we also know of those players that have incredible evaluation metrics but just never seem to make plays too.
a pressure should have results; a bad pass, making the QB run, something like that

Nice post.
I actually am okay with PFF "sometimes."
And I try my best not to have homer lenses.
The gray area to me in this case is net result after snap.
I could care less if Micah beat his man AND the chip blocker 10 out of 12 times IF the end result is still a positive offensive gain.

Just me I guess.
And one more thing.
If Micah commanded so much attention last night but Thunderpimp already conceded that the corners still got beat handily even after Micah is occupying at least 2...
Well then that leaves other d linemen, linebackers and safeties to benefit from all this constant Micah double teaming, etc, right?

So now, what GB defensive player jumps off the screen as having benefitted from all the Micah attention?

None of them.
Impact absolutely negligible last night.
"Except" for the Dak save.

My question still remains then brother.
If he wrecked it individually and is so impactful then did Schott just blueprint the rest of the NFL on how to limit his impact?
It wasn't "just" their dbs bro.
When Guyton went out that was 3 UDFAs, a 7th rounder and a 1st rounder holding down the fort.
A defensive MVP type is to lift all those players performance around him, correct?

IF the "result" of a Micah pressure is repeated net gains to the offense then that is not an actual positive impact by Micah. No matter how you want to spin PFFs subjectivity.

It's like the old spin of Lawrence or even "almost Anthony Spencer" and convincing me their pressures are as effective as actual sacks.

That simply isn't true.
You're as knowledgeable as anyone on this board but the ultimate impact of Parsons performance was negligible based off the actual results of his individual snap wins.
Dallas won far more snaps than Green Bay did while Parsons was rushing the passer.
I think the issue here is we are looking at it from two different perspectives. If we are looking at just last night and the impact on the game then yes you are 1000% correct in your stance. I'm looking at it more so from a perspective of if they played that game again or even 10 times what would the outcome be. Micah Parsons is still likely to win the battles up front against our Tackles while is Dak Prescott going to be that locked in and execute at that efficient of a rate? My guess is that if we replayed that game 10 times over you don't hold Parsons sackless in 8 of those 10 games.

Kinda similar to my response in post 59....two different ways to evaluate. One is independent of everything but winning your 1v1 matchup. The other is strictly dependent upon the outcome of the game/play/series/etc.

Did Micah "lift up" his teammates on defense yesterday? No, but he also didn't do anything to cost his team the game either. Did Schotty expose GB? Sort of....I think what he exposed was two JAGs at CB who enjoyed easy assignments because of the pressure Parsons/Gary brought those first three weeks. I think the blueprint is out on GB IF you have a QB who can get the ball to his receivers as quick as Dak did yesterday which isn't easy to do. I've never been a huge Dak guy, but I can't deny that he is playing a major role in holding together an offense without its top weapon and subpar pass blocking OL.

Just goes back to my post #59....Some prefer player evaluation to be dependent upon the result of the play....other prefer it as a result of winning individual matchups. No true wrong answer and both need to be taken into consideration.

Great response. Thank you for such a respectful tone. And yes, it was a perspectives difference of opinion. I may not have picked up on your referring to this somewhat, no, extremely rare performance by Prescott as being the huge difference maker that it was.
Coincidentally, I am not the biggest Dak guy either and I can't sit here and debate you about believing in him being able to duplicate that type of performance for a whole season either because I don't think he could but that's besides the point because last night Dak delivered.
Credit where it's due then.
Quarterback and playcalling/execution negated an otherwise decent individual defensive performance.

He still can't stop the run tho. And he still can't last over 17 games and play at that level.

And, most importantly, he still isn't worth over $40 million.
So much nonsense. Here’s a data block that handles most of that.

Whatever theyre going to critize about our defense goes for the packers D as well
That has been my point all day. Both offenses had their way so whatever that means it's the same all the way around.

If folks are convinced our O is just so outstanding that we mauled a top 10 defense, I don't see that at all but ... maybe. We'll get to see their D against the Lions, Ravens & Eagles. I'm going to need to see them hold those teams down before I'm convinced last night was a fluke. Don't base it off games like the Bengals next week.
