What constitutes Micah or any line man as winning his match up? Explain it to me like Im in gradeschool. I won't be offended. I seriously dunno what the criteria is. Thanks

I like him. Just don't fawn all over him like some. You mentioned Derrick Thomas. He's no DT. Then again, nobody is. He's a stand alone rare air dude. Love Ware, but he wasn't DT. Bruce Smith doesn't get talked about enough. Poor guy was overshadowed by those Dallas teams we had during his time.

I'm still kind of conflicted about the whole thing.
Had Parsons been in a Cowboys uniform Sunday night the 'Boys would have won. Probably?
But with Clark and 2 more 1st round picks, and cap space eased, the door is open for some significant change. Maybe.
The blame for the whole mess is debatable.

See what I mean?

It's really objective, because sometimes it's hard to figure out if a player missed their assignment or just plain got beat on a rep. It's also hard to figure out if it's counted as a pressure if the quarterback moves out of the pocket by design or not.

I still say Parsons' "sack" in this game should have been a run for no gain by Dak, for instance.

What game where you watching? He abused Guyton and help multiple times and he even abused Tyler Smith on a play. Micah had the highest grade of any defender on the field with a grade of 94.2. He had 10 pressures in 30 pass rushing reps. Micah wasn't the issue. Dak was in his bag. Though Micah did have a game saving tackle on Dak when he was ready to run into the endzone. It's weird we left Ferg one on one with a top 3 pass rusher in the NFL in a big game moment.
 
I mean if pressures alone equals "abuse" than people should be talking more about Donovan Ezeiruaku.

I'm sure someone smarter than me can do a better job than I can, especially if there is official criteria that I'm not aware of. But I'd offer something like this--just a thought experiment. On average, it takes 4.3 seconds to record a sack. Let's say getting to the QB in 3.5 seconds or less constitutes a win for a DE. The DE has no control over whether the QB releases the ball faster than that. In theory, a QB can receive the snap and throw the ball faster than a lineman can get around a blocker and get to the QB. Winning a matchup, getting a hurry or a pressure is a way of measuring how well the DE did his job independent of how quickly the ball was thrown, since that is outside of his control.

He is also not counting 47 million against the cap. Not even close. Go look at his cap hits before continuing to spew this nonsense. His contract for lack of a better term is actually very team friendly. When his cap hits get up to those numbers, he is cuttable with limited damage to the cap. Its how smart FO's operate in a cap era. Problem is our FO cant do math unless it is overpaying an injured player.

Who cares how the game was planned! The bottom line is that he didn’t wreck anything. His defense got waxed for 38 points!!! He was given credit for a sack in which the play gained a yard, and had a couple plays where his pressure was a little above average. It doesn’t matter if he counts for 47 ATC, no defensive player in the NFL is worth what he is making. Not one is worth more than what the best QBs are making. For the most part he was handled in one way or another by guys making 80% less than him.

Cleveland gave up 40 last week. Pittsburgh gave up 32 in regulation to the Jets. So I guess Garrett and Watt are overrated, too. Who are your favorite pass rushers who are better than Micah? Let's take a look at their game logs and see if this kind of logic holds up.

Also - again - Micah Parsons doesn't count for $47M against the cap. You're wrong about that. In fact, this year, he counts for ~$10M. Quite a steal, yeah?

Micah had a PRWR of 33%, which is ridiculous. It’s more like hitting .400 if it were to be sustained over a season.

If you expect a pass rusher to get to the QB say 66% of the time, think about how that would translate to sacks. It would be like 60 sacks in a season.

I said nothing about getting to the QB .. The win rate means you beat your man. If you only beat your man 33% of the time then yes you are good but no you are not dominating. The only way I can think of it is if a wide receiver got open 33% of the time would he be considered to be dominating his cover guy? I honestly don't know but the the offensive player in me would say no. But not all "getting to the QB"s are created equal. It doesn't have to be a sack. It could be a hit on the QB, flushing him out of the pocket, forcing him to step up. Or even just forcing a bad throw because you made him rush it. There are any number of ways to affect the QB without sacking him. I am in no way arguing that Micah is not a great player or that he did not force the Cowboys to have a plan for him.. What I AM arguing is that the Cowboys plan worked. Micah did not significantly impact our offense beyond forcing Dak to be sharp as a tack and get through his reads quicker. Which frankly probably helps us in the long run!
