Are fans ready to accept the Micah trade devasted our defense?

I’m not sure how we can argue that it wouldn’t be easier to build around a talent like Micah than without?

If we are talking about building around a player for the future, sure, MIcah would be a good place to start. If we are talking about how this team would be on defense this year, I don't think it would have mattered much.

Isn't it obvious? Because offense sells tickets. Even with a Pop Warner level defense the Cowboys are still exciting to watch on offense.

Just ask yourself this one question,

Does anyone really believe that the cowboys are gonna find a player that adds more impact to the team with the two first rounders they got than what Micah added?

It’s way more realistic to think that even both picks combined will still provide less of an uplift than Micah does and you’ve got to wait two years to even fully access them.

The only way this trade realistically becomes worth it is if the picks are used in a future trade up for a franchise qb that ends up better than Dak.

No, just in contention for a playoff spot. Like 7th seed. My projection before trade was 8 or 9 wins which realistically probably not enough but would remain in contention until at least Xmas.

Now my projections is hard to see more than 5 or 6 wins and our season could very well be over by Halloween.

That’s a huge difference to me. .I understand some fans are excited cause it raises our draft position. But I promise you this is not our organization plan.

Totally agree. But I seriously doubt we use either of these picks for heir apparent franchise QB barring a career ending injury.

I wonder if most fans think an extra month or six weeks of "contention" before missing the playoffs is really that huge a difference. I kind of doubt it.

I understand if we were actually in an official rebuild mode and Micah wasn’t in our plans as we planned on trading him to highest bidder during Free Agency that could have actually been a strategic plan. But that’s not what happened. We had every intention on resigning. We just couldn’t get a deal done . But I’m not here to argue out as that’s been exhausted over last couple months.

This thread is about what the impacts of losing Micah has meant to this defense . The fact we lost him a week before the season had to be devasting to a DC and schemes with other losses on defense in FA and injuries.

Where was our pass rush going to come from. We also lost Lawrence as a Cap Casualty. Our top two edge rushers gone .

And with our 2 CB’s not a 100% recovering from injuries we were leaving our secondary very vulnerable without a pass rush.

WTH were we thinking. We had to know it could be a disaster .

I'm not at all saying that Jerry handled this the right way. His age and senility was definitely showing through here. Jerry wanted him for 41M a year which I also think would have been a mistake. This should have been thought through and worked out one way or another last spring.

He would have easily gotten him for $41 mil if he had gotten on the phone with the agent instead of dragging his feet.

It was never a plan. Jerry had some strange notion of bypassing a players agent (probably mad about getting bent over by Daks agent). When that didn’t happen he got butt hurt and proceeded down the path we are on now.
