This is what I would do in the offseason!

This is what I would do this offseason, not what I think the Cowboys might do:

-Fire DC Matt Eberflus, we need to bring in a modern defensive scheme. Brain Flores would be my top target if he fails to land a HC job. He runs a modern, hybrid scheme and has gotten results without stars. Jim Leonard from the Broncos would be my fall back option.

-Time to open up the books and move some money to the post Dak years. They have the ability to create over 100 million in space. Franchise Tag George Pickens. Give him one more season to prove himself. Resign Javonte Williams, Stewart Move on from Diggs, Steele, Hooker.

Free Agency

-Trey Hendrickson Cincy Edge (his value is about 22 million right now)
-Quincy Williams Jets LB (reunite him with his brother)
-Reed Blankenship Eagles S (solidifies the deep secondary)
-Boye Mafe Seattle Edge (young, inexpensive rotational piece)
-Kelvin Beechum Swing Arizona Swing Tackle (inexpensive, experience Tackle, Guyton/Thomas can still improve)

Draft

Sonny Styles LB Ohio State (rangy, athletic, elite coverage type of linebacker)
Dillion Thieneman Safety Oregon (a versatile safety prospect)
Add another #2 RB for competition, more trench depth
Not bad ideas on paper but I can’t see Pickens playing on the tag. It will be a mess. David wants a long term contract. I don’t want another dumb offseason holdout that will destroy us three years in a row for attention.

I like your defensive ideas for the most part except your pass rushers but at least we will probably line up a top 20 defense before the draft and to be honest that is my number 1 objective for offseason. Have a solid defense before draft season.

I agree with most of your post , op.
I just hope Flores is available after the season . I just hope Jerry fires Eberflus. If Jerry brings Matt back next season, then he isn’t serious about the cowboys becoming a legitimate playoff contender

Pickens contract situation is the controversy for next summers episode.

“Keep ‘em talking.”

That would be great.

I'd draft a safety pretty high. This is the year for that.

Trade Prescott for whatever they can get and draft his replacement. This dude is not going to take the Boys to the promise land this year or next year or the year after that. He's a 60 million dollar a year weight around the neck of the Dallas Cowboys.

Prescott is going nowhere and teams win SBs not QBs

That said I don’t care if they’d move on but he’s far from the weakest link holding this team back

I also don’t see that 60 mil contract holding us back from signing anyone unless you feel like parsons 47 mil contract is good value

If Dallas wanted to sign people they would but they never have even prior to Prescott’s overpriced contract

Jerry likes to shop at dollar tree for FA

Jim Schwartz could also be a good candidate if he becomes available in the offseason
Yep. If that guy is going down he's going down swinging! Haymakers too for that matter. Schwartz is the total opposite of the scared of his own shadow DC we have now. My 1 B choice would be Jimmy Leonard.

What's this boards infatuation with Hendrickson? He's a 30 yo LEO who's built a career padding his sack stats by barely bothering to perform his run defense assignments.
22 million is delusional. Currently his contract projection 34m annually and someone dumb will pay it. If not I'd guess he'd retire before playing for under 32 due to his ego.
If you want to drop 22m a year on a player then you're looking at Kwity Paye. Do you want to drop 22m on another strong side DE?
Boye would be a nice tweener end who will cost about 10-12m a year.
They can probably resign Clowney on another 1yr contract.
They're almost obligated to use one of those 1st round picks on a DE.

They have 1 June 1st designation left for next season with 3 players being mentioned as cuts,
Diggs, Steel, and Hooker
Either of Diggs or Steel would save around 8-9 million or so!
My guess it will be Diggs, his knee is shot and he'll be the least dead cap hit combined with the massive dead cap hit already existing with Zack Martin.
if you cut Hooker you'd then have to take on his entire 9.5m dead cap hit, his cap hit is 7.2m. You don't save anything cutting Hooker. You lose almost 2m in cap space.
Might want to resign your fact to the reality that's it's almost certain that Hooker will be here and that they probably resign Wilson to at least a 1yr contract!

At least you have a plan. Jerry won't fire eberflus. What they need to do is make sure to build on what they have, even if they think they are solid they need to push for better. LB and Safeties are priority this next draft and free agency.

That would allow to go bpa

I think Im starting to lean more into going the Clowney way if he is reasonable instead of Trey. We need a little more help and I would like to lock up Pickens and JW
Cut Diggs and Steele. I would see what players I could move for picks

I like Clowney, but how much longer can we expect him to play at a high level and staying healthy. They also need real juice coming off the edges which he never was considered a high end edge rusher, more like DLaw

No thanks to Hendrickson. He’s not playing now and will be having surgery after the season.

I think with more pass rush, the corners should be fine. I do feel they have a bigger need at the safety position
Agree - the hope is Bland returns to form and Revel develops. There is at least potential for average at CB with current players. I imagine Hooker will be a cap causality, that leaves Bell as the only Safety on the roster.

Would love to see Sonny Styles or CJ Allen on this team next year. This to me is the biggest need - the difference between Jack Campbell and Kenneth Murray was immense!

Also need another DE - somehow we need to get another top 100 pick out of the first round picks to get a LB, DE and safety.

Those are the three priority needs, let’s hope they do spend some money in fa to help address those areas. As for corner, Revel has #1 corner potential, Bland has to be more consistent and think Stewart was a nice find. We also have Carson, Butler as depth pieces, its a young group that can get better
