I completely understand his frustration. Hopefully this is just a short term fix to get thru these last 2 games.

Doesn't sound like he wants to play outside. Something the members in here didn't consider when they have been trying to get him out to tackle for the last 2 years.

When do players get to choose where & when they play . If the team can be more successful with LT taken off the table of needs I say talk to him honestly and openly . Guyton missed too many games to me for him to be the going forward LT . Let him compete for RT .

Just posted in another thread........Tyler isn't stupid. He's well award the pay difference from guard to LT.
My guess is
* they have def decided Guyton isn't the long-term answer
* they wanna see IF Tyler can play at the same All-Pro level
* IF NOT, they will keep him at LG and go shopping for a Guyton's replacement

Hmmmm........Zack Martin felt the same way and frankly, I don't blame them. You are taking me away of my ALL Pro level position and asking me to master ANOTHER position at the same level

This team has such a horrible defense the only path to upgrade LT other then Smith to me is FA , the draft picks are a premium I want going to D . So make Guyton your left tackle in 26 and roll the dice .

You really want a guy playing a position that he doesn't like to play? I'm sure he doesn't care if he's got to step in and play left tackle for a couple of games due to an injury or whatever but it doesn't sound like he wants to play that position long-term.

I get the frustration, but he needs to do what's best for the team. Not taking away from his abilities as a guard, but the QB is taking a beating because we don't have anyone that can play OT. I don't see it as a permanent move, but it should be able to buy us time to find a true replacement without expending assets that really need to go towards the defense right now. This move improves two tackle spots once Guyton is healthy. I don't think we have a choice but to move forward with this alignment unless a can't miss prospect falls in the draft.

He’s already having a down year. This won’t help.

It's absolutely about them not paying him like a LT when he signed his extension. I don't blame him.

He may end up being an All-Pro LT. He is a good player and it's possible he excels outside. That would be a major discount for the team having him at a Guards price excelling at LT.

I respect his business sense.

Wonder if you could assuage some of this if he plays great at LT by restructuring and or adding some incentives to his contract.

Although it might not be money based either.

Tyler Smith being a great LT is much better for us than him being a great LG. Much easier hole to fill, sends Guyton to RT lets you gain some cap with a Steele cut.

His pay is close to the top 5 LT's in the NFL. Switching to LT is a great move for him financially. If he makes Pro Bowls as an LT, his 3rd contract will be much bigger than it is as an LG

He is making close to top 5 LT money. He is making 24m AAV. The top 5 LT's range from 28M to 25M
