Sure but he was pretty good at T even without every really getting to concentrate on it. Maybe whatever physical ailments bothered him this year take T off the table. If so, it is what it is but the team should look at every conceivable configuration to get the best 5 on the field.

Plain and simple. On his worst day Smith is 5 times the tackle bust Guyton is.
Does that mean Smith has proven All Pro skins on the wall at left tackle?

No, but he ain't some injury prone false start machine fraud whose performance ceiling is league average at best that Guyton is.

There ain't no other guys in house.
So you either draft an actual plug n play pedigreed guy at LT and lose out on getting a top pick line backer that should be THE top off season concern, or you try Smith at LT and see what his performance ceiling is at tackle.

One or the other.
The defense is so ****** up.

But so is left tackle.
End of story.

This is just a short term fix so Dak doesn't get killed in the last two games.

Guyton won't be healthy enough to protect Dak like he needs to and Nate Thomas is having problems and just needs more time to figure it out.

If they were playing Milton the last couple games, I doubt they would have made this move.

Being an All-Pro guard is security for his next contract. Moving him to LT is an unnecessary business risk for him.

It's absolutely about them not paying him like a LT when he signed his extension. I don't blame him.

He may end up being an All-Pro LT. He is a good player and it's possible he excels outside. That would be a major discount for the team having him at a Guards price excelling at LT.

I respect his business sense.

This has created a trust issue in my opinion.

They could have made this change already, prior to his extension. Several fans have been asking for this for sometime.

They could have traded/cut Steele and had this lineup with Guyton at RT at the start of the season.

Or Steele could have been the swing tackle.

Tyler Smith has said he feels more confident about his performance at G than at OT in the past. This is not about money.

With Guyton’s ankle injury and weak performance this season, this is the way for them to hopefully prevent Prescott from injury and close the season.

You really want a guy playing a position that he doesn't like to play? I'm sure he doesn't care if he's got to step in and play left tackle for a couple of games due to an injury or whatever but it doesn't sound like he wants to play that position long-term.

Players change their minds too. Greg Ellis wasn't supposed to be able to play in a 3-4, but he did just fine.

Its possible Tyler does really well at tackle and isn't so against it come next season.

I agree 100%, but they are trying to to figure out how to make short cuts on offense, to afford Pickens, and fix our defense.

It is a big mistake.

Dak has been able to step up in the pocket like never before with our 3 interior lineman.

If we are serious about trying to make a legit run for a SB, Pickens is not a part of the solution.

If Jerry wants to give false hope, be entertaining and continue to score and give up 30 points a game and try to outscore other teams then extend him.

Number 1 factor has to be to protect Dak. If he goes down all bets are off.

Both LT's can give up the edge if the QB can consistently step up in the pocket.

There are some days this year that Tyler Smith played worse than Tyler Guyton. Vegas was one.

Just posted in another thread........Tyler isn't stupid. He's well award the pay difference from guard to LT.
My guess is
* they have def decided Guyton isn't the long-term answer
* they wanna see IF Tyler can play at the same All-Pro level
* IF NOT, they will keep him at LG and go shopping for a Guyton's replacement

If that was the intent they probably would have moved him to LT much earlier in the season.

I know of one(ONE) example of an OG moving to OLT and playing well. And that just happens to be the best OL of all time, Larry Allen.

If this is supposed to work, someone provide me w/ a template of it working.

I sure hope they don't ruin him. I think a lot of people don't understand what a big move this is, and the huge chance they are taking.
